You really shouldn't force yourself in the beginning. By the time Half-Life 2's VR mode was released I already had a few hours in the Rift. I was easily able to play hour long sessions without feeling sick.

It'd be great if someone build a "VR beginner" game that slowly accustoms you to VR, by encouraging short sessions and trying different movement mechanics.
That's boring.
First thing I'd want to do is jump into a match of Shattered Horizons with the Oculus Rift.
there are two types of rifters

i know that when i get my rift im going to be sick for the next two days because i will try to fight it despite the best advice

There's another reason besides sickness why I think you shouldn't really do this: your body will partially associate VR with bad feelings. It's best to take it easy for your own enjoyment, and not ruin your first experience.

I just realized that sounds a lot like sex.

Think consumer version could get one of these? :O
WizDish has a kickstarter :v:

Seems this and Omni are the two "main" VR movement devices riding on Rift's wave of success. I wonder which will win in the end, or if both will fail. The Omni just seems more natural and safer, but the Dish is cheaper and simpler (but less precise, as it uses a kinect - hooray for running (sliding) into walls)
Yeah, well if I get either I'm definitely getting the Omni.

Oh yay they made a video of the intotherift.com event:

The more the merrier, competition will only lead to progression.
And it will lead to one cheap alternative! :eng101:
i do not recommend playing upside-down

I watched all of Sword Art Online a few days ago and I have had the biggest boner for Oculus ever since.

Yeah.
Except if someone like Asuna comes along in my dream VR MMO.
uninstalling
So a guy figured out a way to fight the screen door effect. All he did was get a clear plastic bag and he stretched it across the panel.

Finer details are lost but for what it is that's not a bad way to fix a temporary issue.
I hope with their new funding they can ramp up production for whatever the next iteration of the rift is. As much as I am ready to fork my money over for the next version I don't want to wait months on end for it. Not months after the initial purchase, I mean months after the people who ordered a head of me get it.

So basically it just blurs the fuck out of everything?

Would probably make it even more realistic for me as I have bad eyesight :v:

It probably looks better when actually using the headset, these images just give us a good idea of mitigating an existing issue until they consumer version comes out. But it fucking rules and is a super simple remedy to an annoying issue.
How do you access the panel though? I'm not good at tinkering with hardware stuff :v:
There's 2 little screws on each side of the unit, inside where the eyecups are. I'd explain it all but having an example is more helpful than just a text guide. Here, have a video.

Surgeon Simulator 2013 just released the update. Rift and Hydra support in the experimental options.

yeah it's basically FXAA but audibly annoying in addition to being visually annoying.

FXAA is really good when done right, though.
Haha, Surgeon Simulator 2013 actually becomes kind of easy when you have a Rift and a Hydra. You get two arms, grabbing stuff just requires squeezing both triggers and a button for the thumb on one of the controllers. Orienting your tools is way easier.

Holy shit. This is huge.
Imagine something like Assassins Creed 3 but without combat and just one historical scene. Students could walk around and see the recreated event. This is like museum taken 1 step ahead.
Whoever makes 3D Habbo Hotel / upgraded Gmod Tower will make some decent profit.

That's awesome, but floating hands and head Bane is just too creepy to me.
