Do they have any plans to make this a little bit quieter? I can see that being a big problem when playing games, just constantly hearing "clink CLINK CLINK CLINK CLINK" through your headphones as you're walking/running in a game.

It has the same volume as any normal treadmill atm, he says some of the videos make it sound more than it is live.
Also the final version will be quieter thanks to different materials etc.
There's 2 little screws on each side of the unit, inside where the eyecups are. I'd explain it all but having an example is more helpful than just a text guide. Here, have a video.

"I'm gonna leave the lenses in so I don't drop the screws into the lens holes and destroy the screen forever"
proceed to manhandle it into the ground jesus there's dust and fingerprints everywhere and they're just throwing tools at it with the screen open to the breeze make it STOP
I ordered a dev kit, I rarely buy silly expensive gadgets but I've just had a massive urge for weeks to get an Oculus Rift. Hopefully it won't take too long to come.

Why not wait for the consumer version? You're screwing yourself over unless you're a developer.

I've had the urge to order a devkit just to play with it but I know it's much smarter to wait for a consumer version. I can't wait !
I don't think buying a dev kit is a bad investment. To be honest it's a good one.
The dev kits are selling for around 600 on eBay

Dev kit is for devs.
Consumer version will have all them bugs ironed out

If you buy a dev kit just to mess about with it and then sell it on for a higher price then you're a bit of dick. There are hundreds of developers out there (including myself) who are waiting for their kits so they can get started on researching and making software for the Rift, and every unit that ends up on eBay means that the wait is just another bit longer. I sincerely hope no one on her does that.

By the way, I'm not suggesting that you would do that. I was mainly talking about others.
I have bought one and I plan on using it as a final level project for College, but after that I will probably sell it on eBay to help pay off College fees, and of course buy the consumer one when that's out.
Why not wait for the consumer version? You're screwing yourself over unless you're a developer.
I don't know, if dev kit 2.0 comes out with a 1080p or higher screen I'd be extremely tempted to jump the gun.

I made a decent amount of money from adsense on my website last month and I wanted to buy something dumb for myself with the earnings. I know this version is not for consumers and I'm not going to complain about any aspect of it because of that.
It's going to be a great piece of technology just to show to friends not into games long before it is commonly available and I can also more comfortably wait for the second iteration of the consumer version which I imagine will be even better. At worst if it ends up being useless to me a friend runs an indie game site and I imagine he could find a dev who would be interested in a discounted Rift.
I'd be willing to negotiate for a Dev Rift. There are a couple ideas I've had floating around in my brain and I wouldn't mind pre-emptively adding Rift support to Redemption: Seven Sages; already am planning Hydra support.
That said I am also waiting for the HD Consumer version.
Hoping to dive into Rift content development next week after my last retake exam. Since GMod VR support is probably still ways off (Garry needs to build his own implementation), I'll just focus on Unity.
Oh my God I've been following Rift for a long time and I wonder if this is ever going to reach Brazil in any way. I just want to experience it :c
This will be my first priority money wise in Q1 2014 (is it coming Q1?) Let's hope it won't get delayed.

How does the pc performance work with the oculus? Does everything get rendered like on a normal 1920x1080 resolution? or is there some kind of double rendering eating fps?
I currently have an I5 2500k @4.4ghz and an radeon hd 7950 3gigabyte, sadly no ssd but I should be save to run games with the oculus rift on 60fps right?
It probably looks better when actually using the headset, these images just give us a good idea of mitigating an existing issue until they consumer version comes out. But it fucking rules and is a super simple remedy to an annoying issue.
If anything its something they could do for the release version, put a very small film/filter over the screen that just oh-so-slightly fuzzes things out on the 1080p version to remove any screen door you might see if you focus on it, but not enough to seriously lose details or make it really fuzzy.
Kind of like how matte displays are technically slightly less crisp than glossy because of the slight diffusion that goes on with making a matte screen, but its not enough to really ruin the the quality.

It renders the scene twice, but each at half resolution. With those specs you'll do fine on most games.
As soon as they open orders for the consumer Rift (and as long it's got a decent enough screen and positional tracking) I am definitely ordering one. Gonna line up pretty nicely for my final year project as well!

I hope you're ready to place your order within minutes of it being put up, it'll likely sell out instantly in a lot of outlets, including direct from Oculus

whoever manages to get away with getting one, make sure to pick one up for me. ;) ;)

I live in a dunkass tech-illiterate village where nobody has heard of OR. So I bet I'll get one if I just march into a store that sells them (most likely Verkkokauppa.com nearby) after work. Or earlier if it's like saturday or sunday.
I hope there will be good wireless headphones out there for a good price when the oculus rift releases
[editline]26th June 2013[/editline]
Not talking about headsets because a desktop microphone makes more sense anyways.

Creative Sound Blaster Tactic3D Rage Wireless, that's what you're looking for.
The sound blaster guys leased us (fragnet) a pair of them at the Dreamhack for our 1 on 1 event and they were wonderful.
They aren't too big so they should fit with the oculus provided the consumer version will be smaller.

why is her keyboard at such a funny angle?
I used to play with my keyboard even more skewed. It's just the way some people roll.
why is her keyboard at such a funny angle?
Because that's her personal comfort position.
