The benefit of leap motion is its mesh of your hand, for precision and 3D game interaction. Myo can not let you have specific finger gestures to see on ingame hands. Leap Motion would not be comfortable to use for that purpose, but it remains the more powerful hand pose reader.
ok guys
now be sure to get the guys working on routine to make sure they make it oculus ready

THERE IS NO EXCUSE. Everybody wants a space horror game on the oculus. there's no questions asked.
I'm pretty excited to get my Leap, except I need to learn how to do 3D stuff

There's already an Oculus VR logo in the video, what more could you ask for
hhahahaha oops, i never even watched the very end. NEVERMIND
Another comparison between the devkit and the HD prototype, this one is an official pic from Oculus.

Fuuuuck I want the consumer version

His 1st point is a bit off. People will probably go bored of experiences that are 'just' about walking around. It's great for short games like Dear Esther or Proteus, but you need actual mechanics if you want to make longer games interesting.
His 6th point about the Omni is one I don't agree with. I don't think it'll become a household item, it'll probably stay in a niche with limited support. It's too bulky, and has too many constraints still for seamless VR movement. There's a lot of talk about it from the community, but I've yet to hear a very enthusiastic (and notable) developer about it.

And lastly, we'll have to see about the implications of VR experiences. You can still distinguish between reality and VR just fine, thus limiting how much damage it can do or escapism it can provide.
We're not in the Matrix just yet, but you can see it from here.

holy mother duck that looks good.
I don't have much faith in gesture-based controls in general. Almost every living creature on the planet has evolved to waste the least amount of energy to achieve something. Pressing a button with our finger is hard to improve in that regard. Gestures that just trigger to pre-defined actions are a waste of energy.
if we really feel like buttons are the best way to do things, then gamings going to have a very short evolution.
my order just shipped. ive never been happier in my life.
my order just shipped. ive never been happier in my life.
Mine too!
What order numbers were you guys and where abouts?
What order numbers were you guys and where abouts?
I'm in florida.
Ah shit I'm like 056XXX in Ireland.
I'm not sure how they work shipping.
I think it's done in batches so like there could be orders in the EU from 48XXX to 55XXX and they all get sent out in that batch but I'm not sure.
I really want it by Augest

That moron is wearing the goggles with the screens on the wrong sides!
Fuuuuck I want the consumer version
Me too, but I don't regret getting a Dev Kit.

remind me later to paint an oculus on top of that
You should paint an oculus on top of that.
I wonder if oculus would be useful for anything other than games. 3D modelling? 3D movies?
A new version of Google Street View maybe?
rift with positional tracking + more accurate iteration of razer hydra + mudbox/ zbrush = YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH
Is there still no release date?

movies would have to be built in a game style environment for it to work right, otherwise it's only as good as a 3D monitor.
Google Street View I can definitely see happening, since it's justlooking around inside a sphere made of pictures.
3D modeling- this is a tricky one. No, it will not enhance 3D modeling. However, as someone who does 3D work for a living, I am happily finding application for the rift. It's not for the modeling process directly (I'm not plugging it into 3DS Max anytime soon), BUT it will be very handy for you to step into a model you're working on to get a better feel for it. I work in Architecture, and playing with the demos I've already found that it's entirely invaluable to be able to walk into a space and feel the size. Look up, look down, check if a sign feels obtrusive or if a certain size/style of ceiling fans will look OK hanging 10 feet down from a vaulted ceiling. There's some things that still frame renders can't do for you, even on a 3D TV
i'm not sure what you mean by "movies would have to be built in a game style environment"
Here's an article on 3D movies in the Rift. http://penny-arcade.com/report/article/the-perfect-3d-movie-theater-how-re-writing-reality-in-vr-creates-a-better
The 3D trailer for Man of Steel is playing on the screen, and it’s in brilliant 3D. The picture is bright and clear, and there’s no distortion because I’m not wearing 3D glasses. The depth is visible from every seat, and the light from the screen splashes on the seats, just as it does in real life. Explosions bathe the environment in red and orange light. When there is no light coming from the screen, the theater is dark.

Your brain knows that the 3D effect in real life, how you perceive distance when you look around a physical room, is different from the trick used to show people a 3D movie on a screen in that room. The Rift removes that problem; everything looks “real” when you’re wearing it, and the 3D effect of the screen is the same you see when you look at the chairs around you. It’s seamless, so you don’t have to keep refocusing your eyes.
My UPS tracking info just updated with this
"The sender has voided the UPS tracking number created for this shipment. UPS does not have possession of this shipment."
What the hell oculus.
Someone asked Oculus about the issue, got a response saying there will be a new tracking number tomorrow: http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/1hlfwf/received_shipment_email_ups_tracking_says/

There's already a Street View for Rift:

Google showcased the new Google Maps with Rift support during Google IO a few months back:

Isn't that technically impossible? Any change of angle would require a new set of pictures because eyeballs change position as head rotates.
