http://www.economist.com/blogs/schumpeter/2013/07/oculus-rift hmmmmmmmm?
The actualy quote is that the OR is arrive in "months, not years" as far as how far off to expect it Which is technically true... even if it takes 11 months and 15 days to get here, which is right on track of their original release timeline.

I'd love to see something similar just set in the Alien universe. :v:
Has anyone tried the VR Cinema yet? I'm wondering how 3D the actual movies are. Can you see depth on the screen that is shown in the theatre?
Has anyone tried the VR Cinema yet? I'm wondering how 3D the actual movies are. Can you see depth on the screen that is shown in the theatre?
I can't find the article anymore but one journalist used it and said in many ways, it was better than being in a theater; the depth in 3D scenes is like a natural extension of the theater itself, without the need for eyes to refocus and without the need for glasses screwing with the brightness. It also eliminates the need to be sitting at optimum viewing angles. He also mentioned that a lot of things were different dealing with lighting. There no longer had to be any light in the theater, amplifying the effect of both sudden bright flashes and complete and total darkness.
So much hype for this. Waiting for the consumer version (Especially since I have nothing to do for the entirety fo Summer) is nearly going to kill me.
Just got my devkit today! and oh my... it's amazing.

Reloading looks so odd even tho it's obviously unfinished. With Hydra you could actually use left hand when reloading which is awesome and should totally be done.
At first I thought it was Hydra. Nice to see the attention to natural-looking arm movement for a VR game.

PlaystationEye footage directly fed to the Rift: That's actual "tele-vision". :v:
http://www.pcgamesn.com/hands-first-pornography-oculus-rift-nsfw
yeeeeees
I am pretty stoked about this thing. I can't wait to see it in action. I'm hoping it lives up to the hype, but given how many people have claimed to be blown away by the first-hand experience, I don't see how it couldn't! [editline]15th July 2013[/editline]
http://www.pcgamesn.com/hands-first-pornography-oculus-rift-nsfw
Awkward timing.
I want the consumer version. Now. Please. Pretty please. Oh come on, just give it to me already! My body is ready, I'm just hoping my mind is as well.

Has there been any talk about when the consumer version might be available? I haven't been following this very closely. [editline]http://www.pcper.com/files/news/2013-04-01/Oculus%20VR%20Emerging%20Companies%20Summit_GTC2013%20(9).jpg[/editline] Holy cow, third quarter of next year? I was under the impression that the consumer version was just around the corner. What a bummer! That bums me out! My wallet must be ready! It simply must! If I can't afford it, I will cry and then I will laugh maniacally and throw axes when it's night time.
I have funding for college, with quite a bit of extra money that will be going into my pocket. That is what I'll be using to get the Consumer version when it comes out and the Razer Hydra controller. I'm in college for 3D animation and Game Design. UDK is part of that program, so I may be able to make something for Oculus Rift during next summer. Perhaps an Oculus-only video of sorts.

Seriously though, I think my wallet is ready. I don't have much expenses currently so I should be able to get it on release. The only problem that comes to my mind, is that it will probably have a delayed release in Denmark. If it releases in Denmark at all.. Could be solved by ordering from the US, but then I'd have a warranty worth nothing at all. [editline]15th July 2013[/editline] Should I buy the Razer Hydra now and get used to it before getting the rift?
I would buy a Rift, but my mattress is currently incompatible with my body and I'm lucky to get 5+ hours of sleep a night. I think the money for that is better spent ensuring I can actually sleep at night.
That would definitely be preferable! What about price points? Is it going to be similarly priced to the devkit, at $300, or are they aiming for a slightly more accessible mark?

http://www.treklightgear.com/treklife/sleeping-in-a-hammock-is-good-for-you/ You will have plenty of money left over for game peripherals if you sleep like an islander.
I think they're aiming at $300.
Yowza. I mean, it's not outrageous or anything, but that is just beyond my "pricey, but justifiable if it's cool" mark, which sits at around $200-250. I'm sure I'll still end up buying the damn thing, but my stomach's gonna drop when I click "checkout."

I've too read things about something being available to the average gamer and enthusiast soon. It's probably going to be like an HD dev kit or something. Dunno if it'll have positional tracking.
