I've had a wad of cash ready to spend on the consumer version for ages now. I refuse to buy the devkit... but the wait is killing me.
Think about how many less games support it now, compared to release.
EVR being played with HD Rifts, lucky cunts. Must be amazing.
Does this mean an HD dekit is in the works? I'd seen the rumors but confirmation is nice. Take my money.
Yeah I'd buy an HD devkit. I would be interested in developing for it but at the same time I'd use it for just general entertainment, so that's why I'm holding out for some kind of an HD version. I also don't mind buying 2 versions if the consumer rift is a lot fancier and comes out a lot later.

I hope I can try the oculus on gamescom tomorrow. hopefully the line won't be as full as it was today
oh i'd just hate a line like that no order to it you just know your wait time is going to be doubled by cutters
After 2hours of standing on the line I finally could try it out. For some reason the screen was really blurry, can't exactly describe it but since it's a public demo I think it was just not right adjusted or something. The experience itself was awesome though. (especially when I flew upwards with the Mech and looked down while landing was rad as hell.)

Oh man and the cryengine SDK is free for noncommercial use. I swear they only had limited tools of previous editions as the free option?
nope i'm wrong there's locked features rip
nope i'm wrong there's locked features rip
So, not as workable as you had thought? I have no idea about working with CryEngine, or any game engine for that matter...
Nate hints at higher than 1080p in consumer version, and partnership with the new consoles. [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs7-l728Y8M[/hd]
To those of you with Rifts, I strongly recommend you play "The Trip". Here's the download, try to go into it without knowing anything beforehand. https://s3.amazonaws.com/ovr_vrjam/appfiles/254-c52f1bd66cc19d05628bd8bf27af3ad6.zip

Have they fixed the screendoor effect yet? Haven't really been following it.
I like how the crowd starts cheering when you raise your hands. Small detail that really adds to the immersion
Nice, but I'm wondering about shield bashing in that game. Also, doing more than a simple swing, like combo those fuckers.
If I ordered a rift now when abouts would I get it? I have to do a final project for my computer graphics course that we need to just come up with (and I was thinking OR because why not). I probably won't order one since I'd rather wait for an HD version to come out
months [editline]2nd September 2013[/editline] that video just makes me sadder that Chivalry has no known plans of supporting this
months [editline]2nd September 2013[/editline] that video just makes me sadder that Chivalry has no known plans of supporting this
That got me thinking, Mount and Blade with Oculus support?
TB trying on Oculus Rift HD prototype I love how genuinely happy the presenter gets at every sign of TB's immersion.
Now we just need a sound system that can match the immersiveness of the Oculous Rift and we'll be good

Anything else is going to be inferior in the immersion department. Seems real-time encoding of binaural audio is possible but it still produces quite a performance hit.
Sony working on their own HMD for PS4 http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...-playstation-4
Sony plans to enter the virtual reality gaming space in a big way with PlayStation 4, Eurogamer can reveal. Amid the growing popularity of the Oculus Rift VR headset among the development community and a small number of gamers, Sony has been working on a rival device for its next-gen console, and it is on track to be revealed in 2014. Multiple sources have indicated to Eurogamer that Sony's VR headset will work similarly to Oculus'. Internally, the device has been demonstrated with Evolution Studios' PS4 racer DriveClub, with players able to look around the cockpit of a car. Evolution's involvement comes as no surprise - the Liverpool studio is home to the Worldwide Studios Stereoscopic 3D team, which has worked on 3D game development since 2008. The team, and 3D chief Mick Hocking, have been relatively quiet since PlayStation's ill-fated 3D push in 2011. Sony also has form with headmounted displays. The £1000 HMZ-T2 is a personal 3D viewer that can be used with 3D games and HD movies. It includes an OLED 720p panel for each eye that renders 3D pictures in high-contrast detail. Eurogamer reviewed its predecessor, the HMZ-T1, in late 2011. The Oculus Rift performs much better than the HMZ-T2 for games, and Sony hopes to one-up the rival device with its own offering. Eurogamer understands Sony's VR headset was set to appear in some form at German show Gamescom last week, but was pulled. We now expect it to be unveiled next year. Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida declined to comment when asked about VR in an interview with Eurogamer at Gamescom. "We don't talk about that," was all he'd say. This week Sony Computer Entertainment Europe declined to comment when contacted by Eurogamer.
Pretty awesome.
People would have to unplug their tv and plug in the headset though? Unless they randomly add more outputs to the ps4
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/420136/sony-to-reveal-ps4-virtual-reality-headset-at-tgs/
Sony is preparing to reveal the final piece of its PS4 hardware strategy at TGS by showcasing a PlayStation-branded virtual reality head-mounted display, CVG has learned.
oh man oh man
I really don't think its a good idea, VR on PC in 3 years will be night and day better than VR on ps4 would.
we are now entering the VR arms race Oculus was still first though and has the advantage in that
