There each eye still sees the same scene, and blends it into one image with a bit of 3D feeling added to it. I'm speaking of a situation when each eye sees something completely different, how would the brain react and merge those two ? Would it be "split screen", or just a mess ? :P
If each eye saw a different image, you'd get a weird overlapping merged image. Think like, in photoshop, you have two layers, and had them set at about 70% while they were aligned to each other.
now I wonder if it's possible to simulate what prey animals see with their monocular vision and high FOV.
now I wonder if it's possible to simulate what prey animals see with their monocular vision and high FOV.
it would be very confusing,
Yeah basically you get splotches of each scene appearing and disappearing depending on what you concentrate on/how you move your eyes.
I had a bug in HL2 ep2 with the Rift where the flashlight would only render half of its beam, or not at all, on one of the projections. It was very annoying so I barely used the flashlight at all during my playthrough.
What about the US? Probably longer?
Yah expect a full month for processing and maybe a week added for shipping.
I think we need to discuss customized Rifts, like how people have been putting fake eyes on them. I was thinking of spray-painting one gold and gluing fake diamonds on the front to spell out "Oculus Bling". It isn't clever in any way, but then again, if you're pimping ice like that, you don't have to be.
I was just going to affix a small mirror like surface across it

I want to put it all in a customized biking helmet complete with a good headset and have the exterior look like it's a Daft Punk mask.
Your avatar gave me the idea. I want to put it all in a customized biking helmet complete with a good headset and have the exterior look like it's a Daft Punk mask.
that would be good for games where the character wears armour and a helmet
now I wonder if it's possible to simulate what prey animals see with their monocular vision and high FOV.
I was just thinking the same thing. I wanna be a bird.

All this talk of seeing like an animal, seeing two things at once, flying as a bird.. [sp]Bran Stark simulator[/sp] [editline]23rd September 2013[/editline] thats an actual spoiler by the way, and even the unspoilertagged part is too much of a hint if you have the context, so i'm not naming what from either beware
You could have just not posted it.
What's wrong with bringing up something that the current discussion is similar to?
Any way to know which stores are demoing the devkit?
Just received the ad-paper for the store. And it says ALL OF THEM! AWW YEAH! I know what I'll be doing sometime this week.

So there's a re-creation of the Star Wars: A New Hope trench run for the Rift. http://www.polygon.com/2013/9/24/4765316/star-wars-a-new-hope-trench-run-recreated-for-oculus-rift
Not fast enough Also looks like the x wing doesn't pitch at all
Hmpf, my Rift doesn't work properly on my desktop all of a sudden. Head rotation doesn't work. However everything is still fine and dandy when I hook it up to my laptop. Both machines use Windows 8 x64. Fired off an email to Oculus support to see if they can help out.

It's a logitech process that makes headtracking not work. Just terminate it. As a happy owner of a G700 mouse, I can't figure out what the fuck LCore.exe does anyway. [editline]26th September 2013[/editline] Google'd it, turns out it also interferes with NVidia surround sound. :v:
Yeah I discovered shutting down Logitech Gaming Software makes the Rift work again.
This won an unofficial design contest. Rest are shown here. Interesting stuff.
and yet this still looks best tho i do like the second runner-up. Got all these professionals who modeled and spent a lot of time thinking of the design and shit. suddenly butterfly
I like the idea of the built in headphones of the second concept. I don't have super fancy headphones so the option of using built in ones would be nice.
so long as they are optional but it just means more wires; rift uses VGA not HDMI, right? so no sound data carried with the video
lol no
My brother just caved and bought a rift. oh boy.
I meant DVI.
I like the idea of the built in headphones of the second concept. I don't have super fancy headphones so the option of using built in ones would be nice.
i don't want built in headphones. it would disappoint me quite a bit to have to deal with that actually.
