This won an unofficial design contest. Rest are shown here. Interesting stuff.
Wow, all the other ones look really dumb.
[t]http://oculusrift-blog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/MudularRift.png[/t] This one looked ok
Reminds me of Daft Punk.
Apparently the Finnish "verkkokauppa.com" which is one of the biggest electronics shops/pc parts dealers in Finland is going to start selling consumer Rifts when they come out!
I visited their electronics store in Jätkäsääri today and tried out the Oculus Rift (and Google Glass too, the funny thing was there were no other people in line to try either one of them out). It was the first Developer Kit version of the Oculus Rift with one of those rollercoasters made using Unity, although it was different than the one in the video you linked (it was slower I think). The resolution felt quite small since all the individual pixels were visible, the lens were a bit dirty but the feeling of motion when going up and down the roller coaster felt real enough, but I'm still not sure if I got the full intended effect. The biggest drawback in it is the resolution, but if it is increased (which they are doing right now), I'll be definitely buying this.
I meant DVI.
Rift control box has both HDMI and DVI connectors.

The HD prototypes that are going around atm have almost none.
So I've just got back from Eurogamer Expo in London. Of course the first section I visited was the Oculus stand. I can say after spending over an hour and a half queuing, it was definitely "worth the weight" (oh wait, this isn't a Gabe Newell post...). I'm rather tired, so I'll keep this to the point: The Display: It's what everyone wants to know. How much of an improvement is the 1080p display over the Dev Kit's 1280x800? It's like night and day, really. I remember my first thought on the new display being: "near perfection". The screen door effect is hanging by a thread. It's barely noticeable at this point and wouldn't be a problem for even fussy users like me. To sum up, looking into the Developer Kit, for me, always felt like being a short sited guy with a fishing net over my face. The 1080p Prototype felt so much more natural, so much more like a window to another world. Smooth, crisp and clear. The Hardware: This information is most likely useless, as this is only a prototype, but here it is anyway. The device itself remains extremely light weight. I feel the overall shape and size of the device has also improved thanks to the new display. The cables felt like more of an issue than before, but considering this was an expo set up bundled with the headphones I was hardly surprised. Additional Thoughts: For some reason, in the demo I played (which I believe was a dogfighting set up in War Thunder) was displayed at a very low FOV, maybe half of what it should have been. I'm certain this was a software issue, as problems weren't uncommon at the Oculus area during my time there. (Prototype hardware + hundreds of eager gamers + Expo set up = unavoidable technical problems). In the end, the only real disappointment was having to put the device down and walk away without it in my hands. The new display is a much needed and incredibly effective addition to the Rift. The fact that this is only a prototype, and that things can only get better from here excites me greatly.
Space Engine + Oculus Rift Think about it... actually no wait, that would be terrifying and totally uncool if I ran into a black hole while flying around
Consumer version can't get here any sooner can it?
Star citizen is too exciting to imagine with a rift.
Space Engine + Oculus Rift Think about it... actually no wait, that would be terrifying and totally uncool if I ran into a black hole while flying around
Imagine getting megalophobia from some space simulator in the rift. cause I mean planets are so huge it's ridiculous to even think of trying to comprehend that shit. Now we can put on the rift and fly around those planets in VR. must be scary

The sun in the Titans of Space demo looks enormous, but it's still shown as only a millionth of its real size.
That guy who did a video of it though said it was still a crazy scary experience I forget who did it tho
I didn't find it scary as much as "whoa". The experiences we'll be having in a few years will be pretty insane tho, can't wait.

TBH the titans of space didn't look that good. Space Engine is already incredibly imposing and convincing on my 23" monitor
Space Engine is already incredibly imposing and convincing on my 23" monitor
This so much, fuck going close to any star makes me damn queasy not to even speak of black holes and neutron stars and just zooming around the entire universe.
I'm so tempted to buy a devkit right now, but I know I should wait. Help me.
I'm so tempted to buy a devkit right now, but I know I should wait. Help me.
I prescribe drinking heavily until the oculus rift comes along Trust me, I've met a doctor
Unless you accidentally buy a devkit while drunk.
Unless you accidentally buy a devkit while drunk.
It wouldn't be the worst thing you could do while drunk. Maybe I'll wake up and have a rift next to me in bed.
Space Engine + Oculus Rift Think about it... actually no wait, that would be terrifying and totally uncool if I ran into a black hole while flying around
Terrifying performance issues

Is it normal that I have not received my track ID yet? They told me it was going to be shipped in 24-48h a week ago....
Unless you accidentally buy a devkit while drunk.
or buy it at 6:30 am half asleep after noticing you got paid, like i did
Technology has come so far in just the past decade. I feel like I should be in awe of its speed of development, or inspired to lend my mind to the constant fray in the hopes that I too can one day contribute something that will benefit society- nay, all of humanity. For now though, all that's really on my mind is one simple thought; "I'm gonna put my dick in that."

I just came across a link to this from what I think was an oculus gamejam type thing in japan http://ocufes.jp/apps/ can't wait for more waifu ogling simulators!!

That is the lewdest hand-shaking simulator i've ever seen.

http://3dvision-blog.com/9128-the-vorpx-beta-3d-driver-for-oculus-rift-is-now-available/
The VorpX Beta 3D Driver for Oculus Rift is Now Available - See more at: http://3dvision-blog.com/9128-the-vorpx-beta-3d-driver-for-oculus-rift-is-now-available/#sthash.xum48O7t.dpuf Finally we are going to see something from the vorpX 3D driver intended for providing Oculus Rfit support for games that do are not made to be used with the Rift – this means stereoscopic 3D rendering as well as headtracking mapping to the game controls. There was just an announcement that a VorpX Beta has been released an it is available for purchase for ~40$ + taxes with a time-limited demo version that is supposed to be made available in a few weeks for people that want to try before they buy the software. According to the developer of the software the vorpX beta is already compatible with about 80 DX9-DX11 games including support for games like Skyrim, Crysis, COD: Modern Warfare 3, Fallout 3 and many, many more. This license for the beta release includes free updates until (but not including) a future version 2.0 of the software and you are allowed to install the software on two machines at the same time. I have not yet personally tested the software, but I do plan on buying a license for the VorpX Beta 3D driver to try it out, so I’ll be sharing more information and personal experience with it as soon as I’m able to test it for a bit, so stay tuned for more…
tl;dr it's a $40 beta for a driver that forces oculus style rendering and motion handling in games without support. Not sure about it myself but it's interesting news if it actually works well
I thought I'd just plug this kickstarter project: The Long Dark. If they reach 100k by the end of tomorrow (Wednesday), they will implement Oculus Rift support! [~$2500 to go] (They have it as a stretch goal as well, but I doubt this project will make it much over their base funding goal)
