Jeez all these weird ideas. That's almost as weird as putting food in your mouth and chewing on it. How do you even come up with these things?
Am I supposed to put it up my butt? Have I been doing it wrong all this time? :tinfoil:
Jeez all these weird ideas. That's almost as weird as putting food in your mouth and chewing on it. How do you even come up with these things?
Putting food in my mouth? I may as well just knock out all my teeth with a hammer right now
Is the Dev Oculas Rift worth purchasing?
I heard that my animation course may be getting a Dev Kit for the Oculus rift since a part of the course is 3D animations and Game design is in UDK.
Is the Dev Oculas Rift worth purchasing?
Only if you have more money than sense - the consumer version is going to be better in every way. Unless you're a developer, of course.
Is the Dev Oculas Rift worth purchasing?
the general rule of thumb is, if you have to ask - it isn't
Anybody have any suggestions of something I could do with the rift for a final year project in Computer Science. Maybe something with Kinect?
the general rule of thumb is, if you have to ask - it isn't
Dai needs to put this at the very top of the OP in bold.

Kinect sensor in hand. Rift shows you the 3d point data. Would be like a weird flashlight in a pitch black world. Hmm, although you'd need some way of tracking the positions of the rift and kinect I guess. Might be more of an engineering project, really.
Yeah and using a cell phone is the same as placing your head in an active microwave.
I suppose when they figure out a way to link a computer to your brain you'll be all for it despite the side effects. [editline]14th October 2013[/editline]
Not any different from the light going into your eye right now.
It's like having someone shine a torch in your eye. Yeah, I don't trust it.
It's like having someone shine a torch in your eye. Yeah, I don't trust it.
Seems like you don't even know why that is a bad thing, because otherwise you'd understand why what you're saying is dumb.

I am glad people who actually know what they talking about are working on this

[editline]14th October 2013[/editline] It's like having someone shine a torch in your eye.
Seems like you don't even know why that is a bad thing, because otherwise you'd understand why what you're saying is dumb.
It's a bad thing because it's shining a bright focused light in one spot on your retina.
It's a bad thing because it's shining a bright focused light in one spot on your retina.
Because it's not possible to shine a light at a safe intensity?
I'm not saying you shouldn't try it, but keep it away from my eyes.
Yeah! You guys can use light if you want, but I value the health of my eyes! Keep all light away from them!
Yeah! You guys can use light if you want, but I value the health of my eyes! Keep all light away from them!
Yes yes use sarcasm to point out the fact that I don't want to use something. If this is what the oculus is going to be like then I'm not going to use the oculus. For Fuck I don't to use this shit, now stop arguing with me. You'd think I'd said breathing was bad for you. [editline]14th October 2013[/editline]
Because it's not possible to shine a light at a safe intensity?
No it's not.
it's not an oculus, it's a Rift, Oculus is the company.

[editline]14th October 2013[/editline] No it's not.
I have this thing on my phone that can adjust the brightness of the screen whenever I want. if im in a dark room I turn it way down because I dont need the full INTENSITY of light the screen can provide. I didnt know you were a physicist btw. You talking from an ignorant standpoint [editline]14th October 2013[/editline] Plus you dont need to know anything to know that this will be safe to use. It is a commercially sold device. if it was able to blind you with scary scary beams of radiation then thy would get sued up all their collective asses.

[editline]14th October 2013[/editline] No it's not.
seriously mate, everyone is taking the sarcastic piss out of you because you're talking as if you don't know basic concepts that would otherwise be considered common sense if you didn't let any light near your eyes, you'd never see anything you're staring at a light source right now; your screen the light your screen gives off is not at all different from the light the screen in the rift, or the lenseless prototype thing gives off "It's a bad thing because it's shining a bright focused light in one spot on your retina." who says its 'bright' (it wouldn't need to be bright at all) or that its focused onto a single spot of your retina like some kind of laser? it uses optics to focus the light such that you can actually see an image you must avoid glasses, binoculars, microscopes, telescopes, magnifying glasses and camera viewfinders like the plague then (hint: the rift, that other prototype, phone screens, desktop monitors and so on are even safer because they generate all the light they give off themselves; they're ridiculously well within safe limits and can't suddenly look up at the sun or anything) you're comparing a device with a screen (or screens) designed to display images to a device designed to put out as much brightness as it can to help illuminate dark areas like rooms or outside at night

http://www.nokiapoweruser.com/device-specs-and-buying-guide/lumia-1520/ So the upcoming 1520 is sporting a 1080 OLED screen Im willing to bet that the OR will be using OLED at this point. it just makes too much sense to do so. Super fast respnse time, perfect blacks, super thin screen, etc. The only limiting factor of oled has been resolution and cost but now thats not so much. Still doibt that we will get oled monitors anytime soon, since apparent the cost of doing a shadow mask for oled gets astronomically high the bigger you get on the screen. But if i can get a 1080p oled rift, who cares?!

[editline]16th October 2013[/editline] would be 1280x1440 per eye oh yes please
Just a question to anybody who knows. Can you use the Kinect to gauge when a player is moving? For example, I would like to use the Unity engine, and Oculus, and have the Kinect check if the player is moving on the spot, and if they are, move them forward in the game. I wanted to do something like a jogging simulator for my final year project but I can't find anything about the Kinect and movement

well if it's just a simple jogging simulator then latency doesnt matter that much does it? You'll mostly be doing a simple and monotonous activity wont you
I really don't know what to do. Doing something with the Rift for a final year project, the supervisor said I should implement another device to make sure I do really well. I thought Kinect would be good but I just can't think of something to do. Maybe I could use the Kinect to make a game where you have to move the world with the controller. So say there is a hole in the ground, and you need to jump over it, you jump via the Kinect, and move with world with the controller to cross the gap, but I really don't know. Any ideas?

That could be neat. I think I'll be using the Hydra as it seems like the most supported device with the Rift. Supervisor said he will buy it with research money so its all good
Is there any indication when the Hydra will be back in stock?
