If the 1080p devkit isn't out by the end of January i'll buy a regular one instead. Kinda looking forward to it.

It won't. Best guess is next summer at the least.

Then I'll get both.
What's holding them up now actually?

The 1080p models they took around on tour are not meant for mass production. They're working towards a newer dev kit that is closer to the consumer version in terms of features, and will likely release just shortly before said consumer version.

Well that seems pointless :v:
Oh well, i hope the screen resolution many are whining about isn't all that bad.

It is. Don't buy the current devkit.
I don't regret buying one because I'm a developer, but seriously, IMO it's not worth buying in it's current state.
I guess if you can afford to waste money, go ahead, just a friendly warning.

$300 is very cheap for something like this imo
i just can't wait for another whole year

They want to push as hard as they can with the first consumer version so that people's expectations of a holo deck are at least sorta met.
I really wish I could just wake up tomorrow and it'd be when the consumer version is released.
I really want one, but know the Dev Kit isn't for me. But the wait is killing me.

Keep in mind the FoV is much smaller too (only about 80-90deg) and it doesn't have positional head tracking and the resolution is more like 480x620 or something because the current dev kit only uses a portion of the screen due to the screen not being the right size (they had to swap it out at the last second).
You will literally be disappointed if you get a devkit even if you know its not going to be as uber as consumer version unless you plan on actually developing for it

i suppose.
i will be making my mod vr compatible at least, and experiment with stuff
but waiting for next summer at the least? no thanks, i've waited long enough
I caved and bought one, I could get one for cheap and sell it again in a few weeks while not making any loss, might even make a small profit.

have some patience
you're spending 300 bucks on something that will be obsolete in 6 or so months time, when you could just wait a little longer
if you're that loaded with extra cash, you could buy me a devkit 1.0 so that I don't have to wait though
Giraffen, send me money.
Don't be selfish. Let actual developers get the devkit.
I'm gonna wait for the consumer version, but I'm so excited to make games for this. It's gonna be fantastic.

It's not like you have to have it now. Sure it's cool but consumer version will be better.
You're literally gonna waste money because "but mooooom i want it noooooow"

Look, if you have the money and can't wait for the consumer version then go ahead and buy it, it's not like anyone here is going to convince you to not buy it after this.

yeah i know.. the wait is just killing me
Just don't feel bad when the much better consumer version is released
a year with a full time job feels like an eternity
Grow up. You aren't even aware of how silly you'd look by buying it because "I just can't wait another year".
I really don't see the problem here? If you would love to try it out already and you have the cash for it then why the hell not?
I did the same , Bought one just because I was curious and I don't regret it.

Because why would you blow $300 and not just wait like 7 months and spoil the experience with a lower quality version of it
[editline]18th November 2013[/editline]
I mean if you have the money for it and you really are so impatient to try it that you're willing to do that, I guess that's cool but personally I'd rather wait so that my first experience is as best as possible
If the dev tools aren't included with the consumer version then I'd buy the dev kit, if they are included then I'd wait and buy the consumer version.

I honestly can't think of a reason they wouldn't make the consumer version developer friendly. That would be the single dumbest thing they could do.

I really hope they include the tools. I want to make a game that looks like it's made for the OR on paper, can't really start working without knowing what limits the consumer version will have.
of course they will
Doesn anyone happen to know how I can enable rift in Project Cars? I've tried various console commands and launch parameters but I can't find anything on google either...
