summer's not too far away
Perhaps throwing someone into a fully-immersive horror game isn't the best of ideas, especially when they've not played said horror game in a VR environment before.
Yeah. I found that out pretty quickly. It was hilarious though.

I'll actually have some money to buy the dang thing then.
Well maybe they just don't have a plan and it will be ready when its ready In all likely hood though it will probably be after summer. You have to give developers time with the "final" dev kit. As I keep pointing out they keep mentioning all these secret features that they can't talk about yet. But it would rather pointless to release the Rift where all the games that support it don't support all the features because you wanted to keep things a surprise.

I think we'll either see the gold master dev kit, or the consumer device this year.
I didn't expect consumer before next christmas, including the order waiting time, so I am unphased. [editline]1st January 2014[/editline] scare him further by having him play the rollercoaster demo and then this 2:55 and onward
I think it sounds much shorter if you think about it, "before summer" is only the next 5 months. [editline]2nd January 2014[/editline] So a consumer version definitely won't be out in the next 5 months but what about Devkit 2?

My cousin is going to CES, so jealous.
Sony's CES conference exactly 24 hours from now. http://www.ustream.tv/sony They're revealing their own HMD as heavily hinted at by shuhei yoshida and some lesser sony dudes

I don't mind this at all. In fact, it could push Oculus to tease their newest prototypes, and that's a good thing for everyone.
It'd be hilarious if the new Rift prototype shits all over the Sony HMD. [editline]6th January 2014[/editline] Figuratively
It'd be hilarious if the new Rift prototype shits all over the Sony HMD. [editline]6th January 2014[/editline] Figuratively
I think that'd be great. It could cement Oculus as a key player in the VR battles we're about to see.
Sony stream is up, 1½ hours to go until the conference. HYPE [editline]6th January 2014[/editline] it was just for testing, its down again
I wish I knew someone with the dev kit. I want to try it out! Its killing me! I don't know if I should order the dev kit now or wait......
I wish I knew someone with the dev kit. I want to try it out! Its killing me! I don't know if I should order the dev kit now or wait......
Just wait. Please, everyone that's not going to develop for it, just wait. It's been said many times: The initial joy will wear out and the resolution / screen door effect will take over and bug you, and you'll probably wish you waited. So, wait.

So, what I'm taking from this is that, if you've got the spare cash, and you really really want to piss away that spare cash, buy the Dev Kit?
So, what I'm taking from this is that, if you've got the spare cash, and you really really want to piss away that spare cash, buy the Dev Kit?
Really, if you aren't gonna develop with the DevKit, don't buy it. You are only going to be taking another kit away from a developer who might need it
Conference start!
keep us posted orkel you're my only hope
So far, they announced a new HMZ-T3W as expected. Not the PS4 HMD yet, they haven't even gotten to any gaming stuff yet (this is meant to view video recorded on their new camera etc) http://www.sony.co.uk/product/personal-3d-viewer/hmz-t3w
Display Resolution 1280 x 720 Aspect Ratio 16:09 Field of View 45 degrees Virtual Image Size 750 inch in 20m distance
So a piece of shit :v: Will post once they reveal the PS4 stuff.
So far: They mentioned the next version of their HMD and only lightly mentioned a head tracking function. [editline]hujfiafwa[/editline] Orkel, you ninja.
it also costs £1299 lol
Oh Sony... Why can't you figure out HMDs?
Oh Sony... Why can't you figure out HMDs?
They can. The stuff they have has gotten great reviews, but it's costly as hell. The first launch model was $800. Second one was $900, and now this new version.
They can. The stuff they have has gotten great reviews, but it's costly as hell. The first launch model was $800. Second one was $900, and now this new version.
Okay, allow me to rephrase. Why can't they figure out high-definition HMDs?
Conference p much over. The HMZ is their secret HMD, thanks yoshida totally worth the wait [editline]7th January 2014[/editline] Also no PS4 stuff at all
Okay, allow me to rephrase. Why can't they figure out high-definition HMDs?
I dunno. ...and it's over. Nothing about any competition for the Rift. When does Oculus showcase their thing?
