Ordered one. They have a special "VR sale" right now thanks to the Rift, so it's -50% off. Not gonna pass the offer. http://www.razerzone.com/VRpromo
I know I'm gonna regret not having one of these when I get my hands on the Oculus. Definitely going buy one of these with that coupon when I get some money. Ty for the heads up about it
Seriously hoping that Tribes Ascend gets support for this.
Gotta puke fast!
1C + 777 (il-2 sturmovik + rise of flight devs) will possibly support the Rift. Possibly. http://forum.il2sturmovik.net/topic/578-initial-oculus-rift-impressions-after-demo/
Will 1C/777 support it? Possibly, but we will evaluate it more once we have the SDK and an actual test unit. This part will be in the hands of Loft and the team and they will have to see if it is possible to squeeze it into our already tight development schedule.
I usually find simulators boring but with the rift they would probably be extremely awesome. I'd love to see sims for things like spelunking and skydiving with this.
Watch in 1080p fullscreen and you can see the screendoor. [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UG8a0oOlAog[/hd]
I can see it without being in fullscreen. Doesn't seem as terrible as I thought it'd be.
Valve themselves said that some of the text is hard to read due to the resolution. wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Oculus_Rift_User_Guide A lot of info, written by valve themselves.

Oh man, I just had a crazy idea. You guys know that one scene in dead space 2, where you have to get your eye poked by a machine? Imagine that in first person with an occulus rift. Pants-shitting mode activated.
I want one for all my flightsims

Plans for Oculus's future. http://www.pcper.com/news/General-Tech/GTC-2013-Oculus-VR-Reveals-Future-Oculus-Rift-ECS
After the first developer kit, Oculus is planning to release a revised version, and ultimately a consumer version. This consumer version is slated for a Q3 2014 launch. It will weigh significantly less (Oculus VR is aiming for around 200g), and will support 1080p 3D resolutions. The sales projections estimate 50,000 revision 2 developer kits in 2013 and at least 500,000 consumer versions of the Oculus Rift in 2014. Ambitious numbers, for sure, but if Oculus can nail down next-generation console support, reduce the weight of the headset, and increase the resolution it is not out of the question.
[t]http://www.pcper.com/files/news/2013-04-01/Oculus%20VR%20Emerging%20Companies%20Summit_GTC2013%20(6).jpg[/t] [t]http://www.pcper.com/files/news/2013-04-01/Oculus%20VR%20Emerging%20Companies%20Summit_GTC2013%20(9).jpg[/t] Q3 2014 for the consumer version eh? 1,5 years of waiting ahead. And a devkit 2.0 later this year, not sure why. [editline]1st April 2013[/editline] Maybe the devkit 2.0 will be all about positional tracking.
That means 1920x1080 split in half right?
That means 1920x1080 split in half right?
The width split in half yes.
Kind of disappointed. I first heard it would come out Q4 2013. Then again delays are always good.
Technically you'll still get the whole 1920x1080, seeing as what you don't see with one eye you'll see with the other, and the two images will be merged in your optical center. Then again delays are always good.
Delays when it comes to the consumer version of the rift is VERY good, seeing as we've got all kinds of interesting phone displays being revealed nowadays.
That's why I said delays are always good, with an exception of A:CM and Duke Nukem Forever.
Kind of disappointed. I first heard it would come out Q4 2013. Then again delays are always good.
It's not a delay, they never explicitly announced when the consumer version would come out other than ambiguously like "2014" or "maybe in a year". And now that we know it's in Q3 2014, if they push it further, then it's a delay.
Holy shit every time I visit this thread even more amazing stuff gets posted. My dick is gonna explode.
Will the second dev kit have the higher res screen then?
uh q3 2014 is so unfair
uh q3 2014 is so unfair
Not really since it's commercial launch. If you give people the current devkit people are going to be slightly dissapointed at the low res.
Q3 2014? Maybe getting a devkit wouldn't be such a bad idea to get now.. I'm so impatient :c
Plans for Oculus's future. Fuck the 3D and shit, it'd be awesome in and of itself to get it that light.
Q3 2014? Maybe getting a devkit wouldn't be such a bad idea to get now.. I'm so impatient :c
I think I'll wait for this "second devkit." Still a full year before the commercial.
With that concept there is no way this thing will be only $300 considering AFAIK they aren't really making any real profit on the current dev kits Also why stereo camera? Okay it would be bad ass to literally be a cyborg with an augmented reality HUD but doesn't seem like you'd actually need more than one camera to get positional tracking. Also wireless seems odd - I thought a big goal with this was near perfect latency? Wireless will garuntee bad latency, or at least much worse than wired. There's no way they'll be able to magically make latency not noticable with this thing with wireless compared to wire.

I wonder if they'll do some deal for cheapening the second devkits a bit for those that bought the first.
Man that date is crushing, I would rather have a version 1 this year and they launch a 2nd version next year. maybe what they're doing is, it's just that Dev Kit 2 isn't commercially viable yet. In which case, I think I'll be buying a Dev Kit 2 to play with, and I'll be elated if it's good and comes out in the 3rd quarter of this year. [editline]2nd April 2013[/editline] Response from Nate Mitchell on the Oculus dev forums: "Hey everyone, To clarify all this: Those slides were from our business/vision presentation at Nvidia's GTC conference. The information from that presentation (dates, concepts, projections, etc...) represent our vision, ideas, and on-going research/exploration. None of it should be considered fact, though we'd love to have that projected revenue! A lot of people have been asking about the rendering of the headset in particular. That's one of many concepts of what the consumer version of the Rift might look like, but we haven't finalized anything for the consumer version yet. We're still in the drawing/concept stage. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused! We have a lot of exciting projects underway to make Oculus virtual reality more compelling. More official information will be revealed when it's nailed down. Shameless plug: If you're interested in working with us to make this vision a reality, email us at careers@oculusvr.com! Thanks again, -- Nate"
