The Global Game Jam is wrapping up so there are several interesting little Rift games in the wild again:
i saw this, it was really awesome makes me want to create a hurt-locker style EOD-tech game in the Rift [editline]27th January 2014[/editline] full body awareness in a bomb suit, etc
A redditor made an extensive round-up of all the Rift games produced during the GGJ, there are actually quite a lot of them: Part 1: http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/1wafjg/global_game_jam_oculusready_roundup_part_1/ Part 2: http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/1wcj88/global_game_jam_oculusready_roundup_part_2/ Part 3: http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/1wdbzv/global_game_jam_oculusready_roundup_part_3/
It'll be interesting to see how fast those VR-AAA titles break even. The market doesn't exist yet and nobody knows how fast it'll grow. The Rift is still a fairly expensive piece of hardware, even at $300. Plus you need a good PC to run the games on. I don't expect it'll be like the mobile app market, where people made a killing in the early days. But it could be. Who knows.
I don't understand how can people say 300$ dollars is expensive. It's the first affordable freaking virtual reality headset that hits the market, and it's half the price of a decent PC monitor...
The main thing for me is that it hasn't replaced something that people are already paying for. So it's another thing that people will need to spend money on, instead of an updated version or replacement for something that people are already paying for. IE it's not a new graphics card, or a new console, or something like that, it's a whole new category that requires a solid amount of money to fill

Even my touch screen. If you pay about $500-$600 for monitor, you may aswell buy a tv.

Unless you're buying a 4k TV as a monitor, that I can understand.
There is quite a big difference between a good PC monitor and a TV.
What I'm saying is, why buy a $500 monitor? That just seems like a waste. Whenever I looked for monitors, I don't bother even looking at anything over $300.
My 30" dell for photo editing was $999. And that was on sale.

Pretty much every monitor over 1920x1080 will cost you more. (If you don't buy some Catleap etc.) There are also other factors, which panel type, reaction time, color trueness and more. Even for a decent gaming monitor I wouldn't spend less than $200.
$300 for the rift would be a steal as far as I'm concerned. I bought the $250 G27 wheel for greater immersion in car games, I'll gladly pay more for greater immersion in a wide variety of games.

I bought some AOC e2450swd monitors from staples for $170~ and they've been great for the time I hade them. They are 1920x1080, no need to go higher really. I also got a dell touch screen at $180 and it's limited to 1600x900 but crisp for movies and other things. I love to build my computer up and all, but I will never bother with over spending if I can avoid it by getting somehig a bit cheaper and smaller. To me, a $200 monitor with 1920x1080 is just fine. [sp]I actually have 3 of them[/sp] I'm a computer enthusiast as much as anyone, but I still watch what I buy and always look to get deals. Almost got an acer 27" touch monitor for $150, but that was going to be over kill.
Well if you've not experienced more expensive screens, then I suppose it makes sense that you don't see the point of them. And that's good for you, really. You save money that way :v: I'd like a 27" 2560 x 1600 10-bit IPS monitor for photo editing though.
I've had my share of using expensive ones, but I just don't like them.

That's one of the reasons I still haven't gone near Dell's S series. Cheap, edge-to-edge glass, but the panels are VA and the response times are ~9ms. 9ms! That's insanely slow. Still, if you like your monitors, go wild.
No, I take those into account. But having 5ms response rate or such doesn't really bother me much. I've never worried about having the most cutting edge specs or anything. I would actually be just fine with the DK 1 if I got one, but I figured waiting would be just better, if I can save some money and still get a better version. I just can't personally justify spending the kind of cash on a monitor, or other hardware. Even if I had the cash to spare, I'd still stick to the cheaper route.
A mysterious PS4 developer claims Sony's HMD is as good as Valve's prototype. http://www.roadtovr.com/sonys-ps4-vr-headset-impressive-valves-new-details-emerge/

So far I get the impression they're desperately playing catch-up.
So, Eve:Valkyrie will be an Oculus Rift exclusive title: http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/02/05/oculus-rifts-first-exclusive-launch-title-is-eve-valkyrie/ I don't like the idea of exclusive titles...

[editline]5th February 2014[/editline] The difference between normal gaming and VR is too drastic to let them play together in competitive environments unless the devs love complete unbalance.
So I got an email from a Nick Wilson of PCGamesN saying I won their Christmas quiz for an Oculus Rift. I hope it wasn't some well crafted spam email.

In TF2, it doesn't work too badly. Same in games like Assetto Corsa. In games like EVE-VR, though, it's probably not a bad idea to make it VR only.
Seems legit, right? [t]http://puu.sh/6LqvX.png[/t]
Unless you know of a stalker that is trying to get your new home address, it probably is. Congrats.
I've been in the same house for about 10 years now. But if it's a stalker and I disappear in a month or too, you all know what's happened.
I don't like the thought of Oculus exclusive games. VR exclusive is a great idea. Oculus exclusive is not, however much that I don't want another company to steal the spotlight.
i wonder if we gonna get like oculus and sony HMD exclusive titles lol It's like the new console war
