Is there any good Rift development forums? I'm doing a final year project using the rift and will probably need a lot of help
At a glance, the Oculus forums seem decent. https://developer.oculusvr.com/forums/
has this been posted anywhere before? an actual picture of Valve's in-house VR rig, as shown at Steam Dev Days
So... it detects the heartbeat
it can just extrapolate it accurately
it's clever but it's not straight up heartbeat detection, it's pulse detection

but yeah, stupid semantics.
I really want to play skyrim as a pure exploration game. That is, no gameplay, story, or HUD. It seems like an exploration-oriented version of skyrim would be better for the rift and my favorite part of skyrim was wandering around anyways. Apparently you can disable enemies attacking with the tdetect console command and disable the HUD with hud opacity slider. I suspect there will still be problems with scripted events; will check when I have the chance.
presumably their sheet music. kind of interesting to think about maintaining the coordination when they can't see the instruments
It's like using your keyboard without looking at it.
You can do it easily after a while.

Unfortunately, being able to see the other musicians is extremely important when you're playing in a group. This seems like more of a novelty than anything.
However, I would love to see something like this on the rift:

It's essentially a much more intuitive, physical interface for live DJing. The table is prohibitively expensive, but a digital VR version, unrestrained by production and shipping costs, could be inexpensive or free.
I want Metroid Prime on the rift. Not gonna happen.

Someone did a video of some stuff he did with the Dolphin emulator and some special drivers and it worked out quite well apparently.

Why not SW Republic Commando?
I just want to walk upon grand scenery. Castles and shit.

Being a poor estonian (our country is FLAT) I've never been to any really exotic place with amazing architecture or anything.
A proper VR setup is something I would gladly splurge on to enjoy some amazing sights. And I mean full body walk around oculus capture
trying to play HL2 with the rift again after a bit of a break (I left my Rift at home when I came back to uni...) and it's not working - 'Activate VR Mode' does nothing, and checking in the video options, under Virtual Reality, it says 'Enabled' but the dropdown is inactive and when hovering says 'No display connected. Connect a compatible VR display and restart the game;.
TF2 is the same :/

Make sure your Rift is actually detected (use the Oculus Config Utility to see if the tracking is working under calibration). Also you'll need to switch to 1280x800 on fullscreen before you can select VR mode I believe.
i kept fiddling and eventually it worked for some reason...

Already figured most of everything they talked about and only answered one question of latency, it being 10ms. $350 us is pretty cheap for several 9dof IMUs, which one board alone can cost 100 each. (probably one of those chips that have all in one package, which is great)
But can it measure within 1mm? Valve had some super tiny amount like that named as a requirement for 'presence' in immersion.
Has anyone mentioned this article?

I wonder if I could, conceivably, have a VR office...
Virtuix Omni for movement, body-tracking cameras for hand and upper body movement, Rift for head tracking and visuals...
I might give that a shot when I get a Rift.

That's within the balance from your inner ear and other factors, so get your head tracking down my guess is you're fine most movements.

Why body tracking cameras when you can have PrioVR, like that video I posted.
Guys, I think we need to go deeper. Custom form fitting 3d metal printed exoskeletons.

There was a video a few weeks back about a guy who put two cameras on the rift. And he was able to look down and see the keyboard and mouse and use it, but then he could project virtual screens. I think it would be fantastic to have virtually infinite virtual screens. I wish I could find it.

This one? 12 minutes in.

I never watched the video...
EDIT: Yeah, that'd work better.
interesting kickstarter just went up, 3D printed* phone screen based HMD
