I finally got my oculus rift from PCGamesN.
And yea, I start to feel sick from playing in like 20 minutes. Though, from what I've tried so far, it works really nice, even with the low resolution.
Not really rift related but have none of the gaming websites had articles about subpac? I couldn't find any but it seems like the kinda thing that would go really well with vr and haptic controls

Just don't push it. Best to begin with several spread out sessions in the beginning, and then you'll have your VR legs within days. Try starting a HL2 VR playthrough in a week or so.

Don't forget to calibrate your IPD with the Rift SDK.
This video makes some great points of how different games on VR will be:

I don't share the same concerns about our ability to adjust to VR as much, but he raises interesting points nonetheless.

He does recap many stances that have been stated - the most exciting for me being that how we will use this tech (inputs / game style / ect) is so completely unknown for "matured" VR games.

Also, I really hate his fake glasses.

why?
Oculus added some new events in their calendar, most we already know of though.
http://www.oculusvr.com/events/
GDC, GPU tech conference, PAX East, ITEC and E3.
why?
It just bothers me. Maybe because it seems like a shallow appeal to his targeted audience to wear glasses as some odd homage to a stereotype. Maybe I'm just being silly / nit-picky.

I feel like this operates off the assumption that "traditional gaming" will die along with the advent of VR. I don't think that's the case.
I feel like there is going to be an increase of fitness-themed games. I don't know for you but kata-based martial arts would also be pretty cool with mocap systems.
What do you think ?
Without forgetting VR-taichi of course.
I don't think I'll preform very well at all in a VR environment, at least in the beginning. Right now I can become really tense (and sometimes scared) in some games, and just imagine being suppressed by a machine gun in Red Orchestra with the Rift. I bet I'd shit myself.
This is what I can't fucking wait for

That is what I am looking forward the most! And ARMA, oh god the gameplay that will be experienced there!

He mentioned at the end of the video he wears fakes cause his real glasses cause a glare.
I'm looking forward to playing STALKER with an Oculus Rift. There'll probably be a mod for it someday.

He explains at the end of THAT video. He wears glasses but the normal frames cause glare

To be honest I'm pretty sure most people stopped the video as soon as he started going into his endspiel of answering comments and doing the usual like&subscribe thing because the video was over at that point, so people missed that point

You can play with the rift on COP, but you have to get used to turning your whole body with the rift. And the tiny screen space you see.
That's why I'm hoping for a good mod that fixes those things and adds some arma style camera or something.
as a modder, i'm afraid that probably won't happen :(
Let's hope this is where Sony reveals their PS4 HMD.
Joining Marks at GDC will be Anton Mikhailov, senior software engineer at SCEA R&D, and Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. The session, titled "Driving the Future of Innovation at Sony Computer Entertainment," promises "a presentation on innovation at PlayStation and the future of gaming," but provides no other details. I'll never forgive them if they steal the spotlight and make everyone treat what will HAVE to be an inferior product for console-accessory pricing's sake, like it is better and 'pff oculus rift must be a ripoff of sony'.
So I've tried arma 3.
It was pretty neat, but I probably should use a different control setup instead of a keyboard & mouse. It needs a joystick for moving and strafing and another for turning the body. So the oculus can be free for head movement.
I also tried the Hydra cover shooter. Held the hydra to my chest instead. Had too many wires and not enough room to really move too fast. But the positional tracking was great, and it helps with fighting motion sickness. Though moving forward while standing made it weird.
Lastly, tried the Half Life 2 VR. Played up to the part with the first helicopter. Tried both dual hyrda mode and positional tracking mode. Though didn't have a second controller near me to keep playing the positional mode.
Overall, this is some pretty cool stuff. Can't wait for the consumer version with positional tracking. I'd think that'd help a lot of people with feeling motion sickness.

But then again, we know. And not just us, but anyone that was even remotely interested in VR knows who came first.
I highly doubt that would be the case, and even if it was, we can always try to correct them.

There will be a few fanboys who will push this agenda regardless of what happens.

even if this happens, enough people know better that the rift will still do outstanding imo
can it please come this summer
What will the big advertised specifications be, once multiple products are on the market?
Resolution, obviously.
Field of view.
Naturally, slimmer models that keep the specs will be desirable.
Would they bother to list how accurate the motion/rotation tracking is? It IS important; Valve said that 'presence' in immersion requires some crazy low number like 1mm positional and 0.25 degrees angular accuracy.

Refresh rate and input lag are very important, but rarely "big advertised".
