Do you develop games?

Yes,
Currently in the Planning phase of my first game. I will share details later on down the line. :)

Awesome, if you want any help with either voice acting or sound track PM me
Or even a logo
Don't count on getting yourself a DK2.
If they let everyone buy a DK2 for 300-500USD, you'd have a lot of dumb customers buying it then being mad that they don't have CV1 when it comes out just a few months later.
For this reason, the DK2 will surely have a deterring high price tag.
So I'm going to GDC this week. If the lines aren't too big (... which they probably will be but maybe I'll get in early who knows) I'll be sure to line up at Oculus' booth.
It'd be cool if they let you order the DK2 on-site.
For this reason, the DK2 will surely have a deterring high price tag.
If they did that, it'd cripple the developers who are trying to launch the thing with their games. People are buying $400 consoles right now (with reservations) but they're also buying $1000-2000 TVs. I can't figure a price point they could set that wouldn't throw their babies (that is to say launch titles) out with the metaphorical bathwater. A lot of the people making rift games right now are hobbyists and small time studios running on a tight budget. Limiting their access by putting the price high enough that your average consumer can't afford it may result in all those potentially breakout hits all coming with nausea etc. because the devs didn't have access to the tech they needed to make it work 'right'.
Also, there's still no official confirm on a '14 release for CV1. It could still be '15 because nobody knows where the 'buck' stops -- does CV1 include Oculus' desired I/O peripheral? Front-mounted cams? Pocket-ware mobile option? Etc.
We'll have all the answers in 3-4 days.

Inevitably so, if it's the showdown it's looking to be.
I can't imagine that they won't drop at least one bomb at that event, especially since it's an event for developers and they seem to be looking at '14/'15 to launch.
I hope someone livestreams Oculus' reveal, whatever it may be.

Remember the old days where Facepunch warned you with a giant yellow box that if you posted poorly you'd be banned? I feel that it would take something similar warning people not to frivolously buy DK2.

In the planning phase? So you're the ideas guy?

Hey, just because he's planning something doesn't mean he's the "ideas guy."
You don't think games just get made, do you? That a programmer just sits down in front of a computer and churns something out? You've got to have some idea of what you're doing before you can do it.

He's in the planning phase of his first game. I'm fairly sure he has no idea what he is doing and there will never be a product.

Loads of people would do that for a personal project.
Your first game's planning phase only takes like 15 minutes because it's not going to be complicated at all. Unless you don't know how to program, in which case it'll never go past the planning phase.
Ah, fair point. I missed that.

If it's not complicated chances are you aren't going to need an Oculus Rift.

If you're developing for the oculus rift, chances are its not your first time programming a game

As someone who's working on my fifth game (not to mention countless shelved prototypes), that idea that planning your first one makes you an ideas guy is just silly. There's nothing wrong with carefully planning out small games and being an ideas guy is entirely about whether or not you execute on your designs.

Unity is pretty good for beginner developers. It might be the most accessible 3d game engine right now.
Microsoft working on a headset of their own for the box?
A new report suggests Microsoft isn't keen to be left in the dust by Oculus and Sony, so has begun work on its own VR headset.
According to the Wall Street Journal, sources close to Microsoft have confirmed the company is hard at work on the devices, which are planned to work with the Xbox One and Xbox 360.
On another note, I had a dream last night that DK2 was revealed and it cost 1869€ with the same 720p screen. Let's hope tomorrow's reveal is better.
5½ hours left until the Sony conference! HYPEHYPE
I don't see why you would get a VR device on a closed platform, you'd miss out on metric fuckloads of content.

Your first game is something you make while figuring out how to actually make a game.

You're not going to take days to plan your first game.

(Here's hoping for Driveclub support... I need to buy a wheel.)
Waiting for pics / videos / demos. How the hell did that Forbes guy release an article about a presentation that has yet to start.

Can I tell you something about journalism?
We make a lot of things up, and revise them later. Speed is a whole lot more important than accuracy.
