Guerrilla Games is working on a unique first person Adventure RPG built from the ground up for VR
Interesting, I should email them about my master thesis then. Maybe, just maybe... :v:
Also don't forget this little tidbit that an Oculus employee posted a month ago: GTX 770 is the "minimum spec" for CV1. http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/1yheyu/can_nvidia_555m_390_gflops_work_with_any_games_or/cfko9hn?context=3
That comment was probably meant in the context of running the current Tuscany demo at 90 fps. Every game will have its own minimum specs, there are no minimum specs for the Rift itself (beyond what's listed on the DK2 page).
so I submitted my uni final year honours dissertation proposal today! going to be studying fitts' and other visual laws with the Rift, and how it compares as a method of pointing/viewing to an ordinary PC monitor and mouse should be fun!
it said in the near future, instead of totally not for PC. meaning probably 5-10 months after it's released it will be available for PC but of course it will be more expensive because to reach the price point here for PS4 they are selling it at a loss (and making it back through software sales), and with pc they have no pc software market
Considering the PC community's aptitude for such things, I say we'd have the Morpheus working on PC within a week or two of its release.
Is the Oculas Rift Devkit V2 worth getting if I have that kind of money to spend?
I've got more then enough money but still choose to wait because: 1) I'm not a Dev 2) I'd rather wait and get a more "complete" experience. But as Orkel said, you can buy one now and sell it after a couple of months
Are you really that desperate for ratings that really do nothing?
don't forget to comment like and subscribe

I was hoping to develop for the rift but all I have is a middle-higher end laptop. How is the rift supposed to be a consumer device if it requires a graphics card like that?

They never said it'd be accessable for everyone.

Shame, too. The Rift was looking like a really promising consumer unit. Now I'm facing $500+ in upgrades to eliminate bottlenecks, and potentially a complete rebuild before I can consider actually buying the thing. Oh well, can't have everything.

Damn it, was really looking forward to getting a rift but now.. Shit. The devkits dont need that much, might end up getting a devkit unless something happens.

It's tempting to buy one now but I'll wait for the consumer version. I have no plans to upgrade my i5 750 and GTX580 yet but hopefully I'll be able to run for example HL2 and other Source games just fine with the CV1.
Game devs aren't stupid. They won't make games that don't run on the majority of PC hardware out there. If you're in the upper group of the Steam hardware survey, you're probably good to go for the first generation of Rift titles. Also No Man's Sky devs just hinted at a VR version of NMS: https://twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/446408671795609600
Is the Oculas Rift Devkit V2 worth getting if I have that kind of money to spend?
I think that if you're just a consumer and don't plan on developing for the Rift in any capacity you should stop being selfish and get out of the way so that the actual developers can get to work sooner on creating a solid lineup of launch titles that will be instrumental for making VR successful. Though I will say; I would consider getting a DK1 used, because all the serious devs will be moving to DK2 and it might be possible to get DK1 for dirt cheap now that it's been made obsolete.
I'm not at all worried about the GTX770 thing, I have a 780 and by the time it's released, the 770 will be more affordable.
Is the Oculas Rift Devkit V2 worth getting if I have that kind of money to spend?
You'll spend 2 hours playing with it, stop using it and put it back in the cupboard for the rest of it's life. It's not ready. Also you don't need a DK1, you live in the US, you can go to the next convention Oculus is at.
Sony says the Morpheus has two 1080p screens (1 per eye), instead of one split in half. This would explain why it has less screen door than the DK2, twice the res.
This will be hacked for PC. Within days. It's great that Oculus started this VR Race.
Also you don't need a DK1, you live in the US, you can go to the next convention Oculus is at.
It's not like US is the size of Slovenia...
They say in that video right there that it has two 960x1080 screens
Two 1080p screens he says. Does he specify if it's two 960 or two 1920x1080?
Two 1080p screens he says. Does he specify if it's two 960 or two 1920x1080?
At about 2:58 they talk about it, and he says 960. The interviewer asks "It's 960 by 1080 for each eye?", and he responds "That's correct, yes."
Maybe they have a filter / extra screen layer, like what some people did for DK1.

Morpheus has a single 1080p screen, just like DK2. Only it's still LCD, not OLED. http://scei.co.jp/corporate/release/140319_e.html
It's my understanding that DK2 isn't OLED either, but rather a similar screen to what's in Morpheus.
Isn't it a pentile AMOLED panel?
Isn't it a pentile AMOLED panel?
Hm, alright then.
Yeah, the OLED is vital to the low-persistence. [editline]21st March 2014[/editline]
Are you really that desperate for ratings that really do nothing?
No. There's no cause to be an assuming ass; I visit this thread daily and was curious to get a count on how many others do too.
Quick Question, how do I get VR mode working in TF2 again? It tells me to restart TF2, I do that and it says disabled again. What do I do?
Well, now that I'm starting to get the hang of UE4, I think I'm gonna plonk down for the DK2.
