How do you check shield strength and power output?
Look at the shield/generator block and press R in Astronaut-Mode
So instead of working on some compact generator I threw a generators along the walls of my ship and added a few million regen with almost no work, I went from 15.6 million to 19.4 million so I think that's the best way to handle this

Is this good? :v:
so would a sort of rib design for power generators be efficient, like
X=power block
.=open space
xxxxxxx
x.......x
x.......x
xxxxxxx
and then if I wanted more blocks I just put rings inside of the rings with a space between them right
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
x...................x
x xxxxxxxxxxx.x
x.x..............x.x
x.xxxxxxxxxxx.x
x...................x
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Think about making virtual boxes, literally just make length, height, width. You don't have to complete the box, just make the outlines, that way you can put several virtual boxes inside each other, and they'll be of the same size. Then you can go around making Tardis jokes.
There are far too many large numbers in this game for them not to have number grouping. It is confusing as heck going over ship stats. Especially since the font is not monospaced for numbers.
Did someone say ring?

You would not believe the hassle I went though to make this... The ship is going to be 1km from end to end.
Can someone tell Wolly to update his server? Me and a few other people cant get in :c

I hope your ship core is facing the right way.

Will it kill everything on the server when you fire it?
I hope your ship core is facing the right way.
I don't think it matters at all really with a ring of all things.

No but he will be able to giggle when he rides it over and under a shop.
Did someone say ring?
Is that modelled after something?
My ship looking at a planet. Bad things happen if they get any closer together
[t]http://puu.sh/2LOJO.jpg[/t]
And somehow during my first fight with pirates (who I killed pretty easily) the only part of my ship that got damaged was my core room, because it totally makes sense to ignore my shields and layers of hull and blow up my missile computer
[editline]2nd May 2013[/editline]
Well that picture turned out poo poo but it's about a quarter of the size of the planet
So when building ships, if you have spare space inside of it, is it most effective to fill it with generators and shields?

Hot Tubs, all the way through.
So I just started playing and uh... Do I have to have the core out in the open to see something or is there some sort of camera block or something?
You can use SD cockpits, which are pretty much remote cameras. You switch to them with the arrow keys when you're in flight mode.

Any way to fix symmetry stopping at a certain point?

build as far out as you think you're going to build on both sides. Then remove the blocks, and you should be able to build within your new boundary.
What is the largest size ship you can create in this game?
What is the largest size ship you can create in this game?
I don't actually think there's a limit.
So let's say about 10,000km in every direction, since I think that's the size of the playable universe.
Just bought this. It has potential, and in a dumb way makes me feel special to get in on it early.
For content: Until I read something here yesterday, I had no idea weapons got powered up when you set them up in rows. I originally was setting up the initial 20 Anti Matter guns in a way that I was basically firing 20 tickle beams as I thought making rows would just destroy the array when I shot.
There should be a thing where when a block gets destroyed, instead of being removed from the game it turns into a destroyed version of the block that you can see through the middle of, and for the most part it acts as though it doesn't exist.
The exceptions are salvage guns that do hit destroyed blocks, and repair guns, which ONLY hit blocks that aren't at full health (ie. the beam goes through blocks at full health to repair the next layer down).
It's just a thing that would make repairing large ships more manageable as you don't have to remember the exact blueprint or fiddle about with getting the reactor layout exactly right again. It also makes the game more forgiving for people starting out, so they don't have to hide from pirates in fear of losing their precious blocks.
The bad thing about this idea is that you can already obtain a huge amount of blocks and money, so it would make people progress even more quickly. It'd have to be in conjunction with balance fixes for weapons, shields and pirate loot.

yes please
im tired of fiddling with my god damn weapon blocks & salvage cannon columns whenever they get damaged
If you can save destroyed blocks, you should be able to replace them at shops or something. I would love to have a replace and repair button. But, you know, balance it somehow. You could make it dependent on that shops inventory or something.

Sort of what Blockade Runner has? :v:
Big ass guns... check
Big ass fuck gun... check.
Blocky ass hull... check.
YAY

My anti-overpoweredretardedfuckship ship featuring overpoweredretardedfuckguns.
So, I logged in to Wolly's just a minute ago, and the Catalog is completely empty. All my ships and works in progress are gone. Is this for everyone? Did the Catalog just get completely deleted?
Oh, therefore it's a problem most likely connected to the updates. The same happens on the one I play on. Also the /list_ships command returns nothing. Moreover, when you try to upload a file from local folder, it also suggests that it is empty.
However, all the files on my computer are still where they're supposed to be, and after checking the server console I can also see that everything is out there too. The game just doesn't seem to see the files.
So yeah, gotta wait for Schema to fix dat shit.

It's my response to the rumored "Borg Cube" that has been going around Wolly's server. This ship is going to be bigger and more deadly than my home space station :v: (now if only I could put a respawn unit on it... make it a mobile HQ
I hope your ship core is facing the right way.
Oh I made absolutely sure it was, I diddn't want to have to do that twice :V:
I've been basing it off of this:

Though I'd love to try the Bengal Carrier next :V:

Yeah, I have found planets to be glitchy no matter what so I tend to avoid them all the time
So which server is everyone on now? I saw Perl added an auto-updater to his server, making it always up to date, so is everyone there or on wolly's still?
