Haven't actually played this game yet but I've been watching the threads since V1 and the stuff posted here is pretty cool. Just not enough time for me to try it right now, but hopefully when I do it will be much more polished
Anyone find out how ship data's stored?
yeah finding this out would be immensely useful for creating shit
what's the deal with exiting ship cores?
i build a decent sized room around mine but it still teleports me outside the ship when I exit
Minimum around the core to exit easily seems to be this, at least on my ship. If I place any more central generator blocks, I get booted out.

A look at what will be the main thrusters of my massive Titan (on one side)

Gonna take awhile to extend this to 1km
Its mass is already 34k, and it isn't even 5% done :v:

Don't EVER place the weapon computer blocks near the core. Bad things happen to them as everyone just targets the core in fights.
That's the thing I would like to be changed. Currently the ship marker is always centered on the core, everyone knows where it is = where to shoot to dispose of it. It would be much cooler if the marker centered for example, somewhere in the centre of gravity of the ship or anywhere else, really. Just not on the core.
Would make battles that much more interesting, because players would be forced to actually target other stuff, like visible weaponry or anything important that they are aware of (generators and stuff). And when the damage would be so severe that the core would become exposed, it would be so satisfying.
Where is everyone getting the materials for their large builds? It's hard to collect 99,000 of something when stations only sell 60
I also kind of want to wait on building something large until Automated Turrets make it in, if they're even planned

Most people build the ship in singleplayer with console commands and then buy the design in multiplayer, since that doesn't use a store's stock.
Others just fly to a station and dismantle the thing.

They are already in, but they're very likely to fuck up your own ship.
I might try to make a decoration and practicality mod with the block editor, it cant make billboard blocks like flowers or power blocks though, so what should I try adding?

I looked at all of the blocks and found a PlexLander.
Full Name: Dr.Plex's Lando Plexlissian. :v:

Sides have turrets to contend with, albeit they aren't particularly deadly at all. That having been said, will probably place the controllers in an armored box somewhere else in the next ship.
I made a couple of tests in landing a fighter, moving it into the landing bay and then down the shaft into the storage bay, it became apparent that;
1. Docking unit expands automatically on Y, X directions thus requiring higher ceiling than really would be neccessary.
2. Starmade doesn't like blocks of different ship cores touching each other
3. You can't see the fighter through windows.
Just got my ship that can fit itself inside of a 20x11x13 box have about 10 generators with each the volume of a 20x11x13 box.
It has 2mil regen. Damn, and it's a tiny ship.
Do share your design!
Can someone give me the formula for regen? I'm going to make a generator generator program and need that.

Made some generators for the shields.
2.6Million regen.

That thing will never support cloaking or jamming for as long as you live lol

As it stands currently, the ship can't have a hull or any large bulk of weapons if you want to jam or cloak, and I posted a picture of it earlier.
Can someone give me the formula for regen? I'm going to make a generator generator program and need that.
The formula is: (2*(Z-1)+1)+(2*(Y-1)+1)+(2*(X-1)+1)/3^1.7*100=Recharge
[editline]5th May 2013[/editline]
The only way to ever really support cloaking from what I can tell is either not having an outer hull at all, or just embed your generators into the hull design.
Unless of course you have a max-reactor like Poseidon.
Is it possible to make a salvage beam salvage a larger area rather than just remove single blocks much faster? I made a reasonably sized salvage ship which looks like the rear end of a (sea) ship with a huge framework holding a massive salvage beam on the front, but it still involves a whole lot of uh... 'scanning' back and forth to do anything at all.
Well, I feel like I've got enough progress on my ship at the moment to show people, so here it is.

You have to separate each individual salvage cannon so that none are touching (you only need one salvage computer) and they will each do their work.

Working on my new ship, so far I have 12 of my 14 reactors done now. I'm thinking about adding a bunch more later if I can fit them all in.
All of these reactors have a 41x41x21 volume.
Max-Reactors are still essentially pointless because it's still far too easy to build a ship that can drop even the four-mil shield regen in a few seconds.
Once that's done you start eating away at the power blocks, and once shield drain > power regen the power drains permanently and the ship becomes unable to move or fire. :v:
How many shield blocks should I have?
Just finished my 14-gen showed above, it has a 2.2mil regen rate and plenty of room for more.

Max-reactors have billions of regen, not millions.

2.2 billion power regen powers 4 million shield regen.
i wish if you didnt have a weapons computer pirates wouldnt target you
it makes bigger, pretty ships easier to move around
2.2 billion power regen powers 4 million shield regen.
How do you know this? As far as I know, Calbiri hasn't fitted shields on his Poseidon.
How do you know this? As far as I know, Calbiri hasn't fitted shields on his Poseidon.
Each shield block requires 2000 power.
2.2 billion divided by 2000 is about 1 mil.
Each shield block provides 4 regen.
So four million regen from one million shield blocks, powered by 2 billion-ish power regeneration.
