Think I might try this out. Anybody know a good, populated server? Oh, and I'm in if you're on at the same time I am. I'm EST.
Does anyone know if it is at all possible to change the threshold on agility? I think that the dropoff is way too sudden. I built what i considered a fighter class ship and it wasn't nearly as agile as something smaller. The thing is, small ships with high agility are near enough useless, okay they can dodge lasers but they do bugger all damage. This game needs a lot more balancing because as it stands, you can't have a super maneuverable craft (think x-wing) that is good. I've seen a lot of player-built stations with turrets, spawned ones should have something similar... And it'd provide something more to loot! After recently getting back into this game, im discovering the main problem that made me leave in the first place. Small ships are pretty much unfeasible, and ships that are considered 'fighter' or 'light' in most games/shows/movies are massive behemoths that can barely turn in star-made. The biggest problem is that everything is a block, no matter what, meaning you need a shitload of space to make your ship actually work, then you need even more to actually attach a hull to it, and ultimately it becomes big and useless. Perhaps a way to fix this is to do away with 'hull blocks' and instead just have 'hull plating', basically its like painting a hull texture (with appropriate resistance values) onto an existing block side, allowing you to make smaller yet still effective ships because you need less space to make one.

I find that frigates are about the smallest you can feasibly go and still have combat effectiveness. (150M+ long ships) Strike craft have to be at least 20M long to do anything, and by then they are basically undockable except planets and Carriers. Which have to be massive. I wish that longer, thinner ships actually accelerated fast than blocky ones. That'd probably be hard to code however.

I like the new advanced graphics, and I always did want to get a research ship built, and with some design aspects I can make it look really cool with the shadows and what not.

I remember playing this game for a while but getting annoyed by the fact that I couldn't make small yet reasonably functional ships. Only two class of ships are useful in that game, super huge 50,000 block ships that are invincible, and tiny 20 block fighters that can be pumped out for a small resource cost. I wanted to have something like a smallish yet useful ship sort of like the freelancer from star-citizen, something with a few rooms but nothing fancy. Unfortunately building something like this and actually having it work somewhat well in terms of weapon power and shields is nigh-impossible.
Oh, I see they didn't fix the whole planet teleporting thing. That's disappointing.

For example, Cannon + cannon = autocannon. For cannons, you can make Autocannons, Shotgun, Sniper, Artillery(big damage long reload). Missiles have heat seeking wave(8 missiles that track without having to aim them), Long range guided, Fast reloading rockets, Torpedoes. Lasers are mostly the same as cannons. Fast charging, 8 laser spread, longer range laser, and a heavy damage laser with long reload. Shockwave is mostly similar to lasers and cannons too. I don't use this one much though, but it's basically changes in speed, damage, range and reload time. AND THEN there are effects. Ion for shield damage. EMP for energy damage. Overdrive for 3x damage for increased power need. Explosive. Piercing to damage blocks behind the block that gets hit. Punch-through which does damage in a straight line for as much damage that is in the shot. Stop which can stop a moving ship. Pull and Push. I'm probably missing something, but it's really complex and you can make a very specialized ship with this system. Edit: Whoops, just noticed that post date my bad.

I'm torn about returning to this game, because I have it in mind that it'd be great as a massive multiplayer game.. But that's not really realistic. I'm concerned that it'll be just another in the sea of creative block-based survival and building games where you build something great, and then there's nobody there to really share it with.
how do you get started off in this game? last I played this ages ago I was just given millions of credits and told to kill pirates for more money, but now I have no credits (spent to build first ship) and a planet to live on. am I supposed to craft everything, or should I buy everything? sell raw resources and buy stuff I need or use raw resources?
