All my ships ended up being terribly blocky, so I embraced it.

it's almost completely invisible if you play with the background turned off. Add some green lights between the blocky outcrops :v:
Id be up for making a server if people want to play multi
Whats the difference between the paid and free version right now?

The first sentence on the Steam page
“We are offering the full current version of the game to play for free in alpha
No difference

I'm currently hosting a server with some friends that I've considered opening up for FP, but even now the CPU usage is terrifyingly high with often lag waves.
But if you have a very good CPU on your server, I'd love to play on it.
hey I haven't played this game in a long time
what have the most recent changes been?
have they changed the utterly repulsive UI yet?
Was trying this out for the first time, decided to set the number of blocks loaded at a time to max because why not?
Then I approached a planet and learned why not.
Anyone planning on making a server?
I usually would but, as previously stated, I'm not confident enough in my server's CPU capacity.
This game has come a long way. And it's complicated as fuck.

I'm working on upgrading my home server now, when it's up I'll start hosting a server again.

What setting is this? Because loading blocks even from my SSD is so bad it's absolutely broken
If it's the "Max Segments" option, I've turned that down to 250 and it didn't help at all. People are saying planets ignore this setting and that's why, but my god it's bad
I have a couple of questions about Starmade, having come from Space Engineers.
-I really only play single player. Is it at all worth it? Are there AI ships to fight and that kind of thing, or is it just a wasteland?
-How does construction work compared to Space Engineers? Does it have symmetry and the ability to click and drag to lay down lines and planes in one go? Or do you have to literally place every block with a mouse click like Minecraft?

There are options for waves and AI using player made ships in the config file, no idea how it works though. I attacked a shop by accident and it sent ships after me, so I had to run away. Same with a station I just attacked.
Other than that I don't think you can find AI ships flying about, not yet atleast. Unless there are more options I haven't really seen, as I just skimmed through the config.
For construction, you go into a build mode and freely fly around, clipping through anything and can build on whatever your core ship block or build block is connected to.
You can use a similar symmetry system for building, there is also a drag and place system in place, but it's a bit odd and I haven't really used it. So I just place everything one by one multiplied by what symmetry adds.
So are planets full size?

:40, 1:50 for a better look. They have lava cores and shit so there's no empty hollowed out nothing. They also come in different sizes, from small to really too big for their own good, at least until chunk (Segment) loading is improved

Each sector has a random chance of having pirate AI, some even based on your saved designs

Oh okay.
Sure hope they update with the latest oculus rift sdk soon.
The new stations they added are pretty awesome, I just wish there was more you could do with them.
I tried the tutorial and there's one thing that irks me: the physics. There's zero acceleration and zero stopping distance, even in zero g mode. You also can't spin in a full circle, your view is locked to 90 degrees up or down. It's really jarring, is there a way to fix this?

Please explain the no acceleration and zero stopping distance? Also, what do you mean you can't spin in a full circle? I assume you are using a mouse and keyboard. So just keep moving your mouse left or right and you'll go in a full circle. as for view being locked to 90 degrees up or down, if you need to see behind you, again turn around(this is if you are moving your avatar). if you're in a ship, you can get cameras at which you can put on your ship to change your view to so you don't have to turn around to see behind you. if you want a bigger FOV, in the settings you can change it to up to 110.

Surely you have noticed that a moving player (outside of a ship) has simply no physics at all, moving around is done at a perfectly fixed speed and when you release the movement key, you stop instantly.
what do you mean you can't spin in a full circle?
You're in space yet you can't do a front/backflip, you're restricted from looking further than 90 degrees up or down.
I don't play this game but I looked into this thread, most games have the camera restricted to avoid you wrapping around and looking at the world upside down behind you, which I guess wouldn't apply here unless you can walk around on stuff, it's also done to prevent issues with gimbal lock instead of using a rotation system more complex than Euler angles.

players are not the focus of the game, ships are.
Forgive me padre for I have sinned.

Was having so much fun, then pirate station alpha happened.

Felt it appropriate to revive this, as I got it on the current sale. So far, worth the 5€. A rather nice alternative to SE; not nearly as detailed as SE in ship destruction, but focuses more on feasible big ships, a galaxy with solar systems and planets, AI to smack with big guns (both of the station and ship varieties, and more of the soft sci-fi stuff like warp drives, warp gates, shields and whatnot. Apparently has better MP too; seems to be designed from the ground-up with that in mind, as SP is basically a 1-player server.
Only downer so far is that there's not yet a way to repair ships in the sense of automatically plugging gaps; you need to replace blocks manually. Though that's set to change when they implement shipyards.

Got my shit kicked in by pirates, doesn't seem to be anything in the way of scaled encounters. Thinking i'll build a missile sniper ship and just keep my distance from the hordes.
Apologies for the bump, but is there still an FP server for this? If not, would anybody recommend a certain server? I'd be interested in maybe faction PVP, but I haven't even purchased yet. Trying the demo now.
