That's a lot of space... What you've got to take into account is that it's not a 50km*50km plane, it's 3D space.
Yes, but it really isn't that large. You can reach any point within minutes.
500 seconds across the map, at 100km/s? Eight minutes. It's not too bad.
I don't know, any sandbox in which you can reach any border within 4 minutes of spawning in is going to feel pretty crowded. I know its not a terrible size, but its certainly more limiting than it should be.
How does that work if normal blocks aren't affected by gravity?
You must become one with the ship.
Map size should be selectable.

If you have a view distance of 5km in each direction, then there are 50*50*50/100=125 private visual zones in SE space. If you were hiding in one of them, it would take a while for someone to find you. Now I have no idea what the render distance is but I don't think there is going to be much of an issue of crowding that much volume with ships any time soon.
Especially since once you leave the starting platform, you have absolutely no reference for direction. There really is no global up or down. So it's not like you'll have 50 people in one flat plane and maybe 5 people above and below them.

Like I was playing around with distances and I barely had time to walk around my frigate and I had already gone past 25km from the central beacon at a cruising speed of 94m/s (so you can still move unimpeded). Grav gens start behaving weird past the 50kms. They come loose and start floating around your ship ghostly until they're actually trailing behind you. While still emitting gravity from their new locations. Also I noticed one part of my interior decided to randomly buckle and break. [editline]21st November 2013[/editline] Okay the most awesome thing about this update which the guy forget to fucking mention is that you can now copy and paste things between saves. Your copy clipboard is saved even when you quit a world. :v: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/DtQiG78.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/twCxZLq.jpg[/thumb]
Can't wait for multiplayer and drilling because then I could hollow out an asteroid and build my base inside of it which is only accessible through a tiny hole in the side
Time to copy and paste me a debris cloud to fly through.
legitimate uses of copy paste from me: 0 uses of copy paste to throw ships at other ships: 50+
Yup, immediately spent 30 minutes hurling balls of mass at my ships.
So this new copy paste feature has already made railguns almost debunked. I'm willing to bet that every new update intended to improve gameplay just gets weaponized straight away.

The only way I see them increasing the size is by doing what starmade does. They just need to find a way to do it seamlessly. Either that or require warp drive to go to an adjacent area... that seems cool actually. This game needs team-deathmatch style multiplayer where you start with a little base and have to build up your fleet before fighting.
Either that or require warp drive to go to an adjacent area... that seems cool actually.
How would you explain not going to another area once you reach the edge of one area?
How would you explain not going to another area once you reach the edge of one area?
Infinitely-thick debris fields?
Do warp drives open gateways from one place to another or do they go really fast?
Very productive morning with the new copy and paste system. [thumb]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/452905875067604547/34A08BDF789F6C6C8DB1B6AEB7F40CFB04A997A4/[/thumb] [thumb]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/452905875067733348/88872797018C4623BB302B7079BC258A58AE57DB/[/thumb]
Do warp drives open gateways from one place to another or do they go really fast?
I mean, if they can make sector changes seamless (and only if they can), then it won't be an issue. If they make the sectors smaller and load adjacent sectors then no problem.
Is anyone else unable to modify a large ship after copypasting? I accidentall Ctrl-X'd cause of these fuckass jetpack controls and I lost a whole ship, then spawned it back and I can't touch it at all in terms of modifying
Infinitely-thick debris fields?
I can imagine the explanation: Space is filled with dangerous debris but some pockets of empty space are safe to occupy. Warp is used to jump in between these safe zones
Do warp drives open gateways from one place to another or do they go really fast?
you mean outside the game right now, theoretically, right? a warp drive would essentially create two gateways for the ship to travel in. it does this by bending the space in front of it. like a piece of paper. instead of going the full length of a paper, a warp drive would just bend the ends of it to meet each other so it could travel to the other side nearly instantaneously.

Okay I'm starting to absolutely hate these controls. Ctrl X is something I press way too often when I'm jumping around in my jet pack and I have accidentally cut my ship away twice now, then when I spawn it back in, I can't edit it until I reload the world.
First real fighter cruiser thing I'm happy with

I wanted to try and focus on being compact and well-armored all the same. it's pretty manuverable
Nooo!!! My ship's save file keeps crashing seconds after loading! It was fine this morning when I updated the game and tweaked a block or two a small fighter I've been working on when taking breaks from the big one. What's worse is I hadn't backed up all the work on the big one I did yesterday. *Pouts* Anyone know how to fix this error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."? If not, I'll make a few copies of the save and delete everything but the big one and see if that salvages it.
please just give me a load game button with a save already in use so i don't have to go to the main menu to use save as [editline]21st November 2013[/editline] every update is hurting my fps more :( [editline]21st November 2013[/editline] and the game crashes whenever i alt tab into it

It just takes forever to load, copy and transfer the ship, so was hoping someone might have a quicker fix.
Woah... what if you hide beacon(s) in your ship so you can exact revenge on whoever steals it.
