Woah... what if you hide beacon(s) in your ship so you can exact revenge on whoever steals it.
they could easily turn it off though
they could easily turn it off though
It would get to be the first thing ship thieves do. Open a control panel, look for beacons, and switch them all off.
Which is why ships need traps. Seriously: Mashy spike plates, swinging axes, jets of flame, poison gas, walls made of turrets... Sir; there are people on your ship .... Release the hounds.
It would get to be the first thing ship thieves do. Open a control panel, look for beacons, and switch them all off.
exactly, so I decided to extend upon this parasite ship idea, and behold [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/703981400341337049/1CA2C326B41C3909DCB315AA1320DB478647E045/[/t][t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/703981400341341217/6A0A19A7CCFC2346C7FB7322239EAB357D7E25B0/[/t] [t]http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/703981400341342236/71386D4296712EBBB401297456D13365B7F78BDE/[/t][t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/703981400341343290/46E10BB2D8CA5F40489CE95931FB1A9DC1F08B5D/[/t] [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/703981400341353376/72BBD206E3FCE19CB1641D574B261FCDB488DFA6/[/t][t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/703981400341354670/2DE655085C0B0F4194F7DEA0383A25204ADAAF7C/[/t] got it to pierce the hull, destroy some engines and attach itself to the generator of the redship. got beacons and enough thrust to hinder the mobility and alter the course of direction of the redship
It would get to be the first thing ship thieves do. Open a control panel, look for beacons, and switch them all off.
A simple solution would be to build a box around the beacon and attach it to the ship with landing gear, then build something around the box so it looks like it's a part of the ship's interior or something.
So now that we've all discovered how to accelerate to 100m/s and paste a projectile, has anyone put work into figuring out the most effective projectile design? A simple 3x3 large block cube seems to work pretty well. I played with a 3x3 sphere of sloped pieces but it tended to just dent sloped armor instead of breaking.
On a side note you can use the copy and paste functions as a weapon
"Space Engineers - Weaponize Everything!". i think that'd be a more fitting title for the thread.
Everything is a weapon. Even I am a weapon.
I really hope that it's less combat orientated and more teamwork / mining / economically based. All my vehicles are small and compact and built for function and have little to no armor.
I really hope that it's less combat orientated and more teamwork / mining / economically based. All my vehicles are small and compact and built for function and have little to no armor.
Have you considered turning them into weapons?
yes but they broke :(
"Space Engineers - Weaponize Everything!". i think that'd be a more fitting title for the thread.
Sort of fitting for a game about engineers. Take what exists, mold it into something new, and find new creative uses for the new thing. Kinda how we went from the wheel to the horse drawn carriage. Took one thing and engineered new uses for it.
As a guy with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, I can confirm that this is sort of true.
To truly earn your degree you just first weaponize a toaster Just imagine being the guy who turned the toaster into a ranged cattle prod that flings the wires in a whiplike fashion propelled by the toast flinger
On a side note you can use the copy and paste functions as a weapon
Just think that once multiplayer and weapons or live, servers will just be littered with infinitely floating debris just like this - just on a much bigger scale. [editline]22nd November 2013[/editline]
To truly earn your degree you just first weaponize a toaster Just imagine being the guy who turned the toaster into a ranged cattle prod that flings the wires in a whiplike fashion propelled by the toast flinger
Or, increase the strength of the flinger and get one of these weird stencil things so that a bullet is burnt onto the toast.
To truly earn your degree you just first weaponize a toaster Just imagine being the guy who turned the toaster into a ranged cattle prod that flings the wires in a whiplike fashion propelled by the toast flinger
So I made this device for testing dragforce on a metal plate moving through water. Had a carriage on rails above a water tank with a arm coming down to hold the plate in the water. I got it going pretty fast so I decided to put a spike on it instead... good times
best times when you're tasked in physics with an assignment related to gravity (I can't remember now, it was back in final year of school), gotta make it practical and also the usual report and you go out of your way to make it about projectile physics and build a little coilgun shooting needles (poor choice of projectile, definitely not as cool as you'd think) across tables was definitely fun but honestly watching one of my mates accidently zap himself with the capacitor three times over the course of construction was even more entertaining weaponising school projects.
With the new copy and paste system, I put all my ships onto one world in a some sort of formation. I just thought about something that absolutely needs to be implemented in the game. Its entirely possible someone suggested this before but this is an almost 80 page thread so who knows. Anchor boots. They'd attach you to whatever surface is directly under your feet, much like a landing gear will anchor ships to surfaces. They'd let you move around freely on that surface and on to slopes and such, although jumping would immediately detach you, and you'd be unable to sprint. They'd function regardless of gravity, so you could walk around in 0g environments or high-g environments. Think of the pastabilities: This would make loading gravity generator cannons easy, since the load could just anchor himself by the cannon without getting launched himself. Or even better, imagine you and a small group of allies drifting up to the side of a ship and anchoring yourselves to the outside. You walk around until you think you've gotten to a safe point. Then you cut open a hole in the hull and sneak inside that way. Ships entirely devoid of gravity as well, forcing anyone who tries to board you to anchor themselves as well or risk flying around, possibly in a ship hurtling through space. Just imagine firefights inside ships with people from both sides moving around on the floor, walls, and cieling at the same time.
500 seconds across the map, at 100km/s? Eight minutes. It's not too bad.
m/s, not km/s (just a typo, result is the same)
I really hope that it's less combat orientated and more teamwork / mining / economically based. All my vehicles are small and compact and built for function and have little to no armor.
i hope that on-foot combat is really impractical and dangerous, so that you have to apply your engineering when you're fighting dudes as well as ships. i want them to emphasize the "tactical" in "tactical shooter"
Paste-slammed my ship into itself, got twisted at a 90 degree angle and destroyed the power source for one of the ships, killing its gravity generator. Result is staring down into the other ship, a long gravity-enabled fall through a wrecked ship. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/VN5GIqP.jpg[/thumb] [editline]22nd November 2013[/editline] this is why space battles will be super cool one moment you're in your spaceship, the next you've got twisted inside another one, lose power, and fall down through your own ship, potentially out some damaged area into empty space
you mean outside the game right now, theoretically, right? a warp drive would essentially create two gateways for the ship to travel in. it does this by bending the space in front of it. like a piece of paper. instead of going the full length of a paper, a warp drive would just bend the ends of it to meet each other so it could travel to the other side nearly instantaneously.
Pretty sure you're describing a Gravity Drive.
I made a station-stop thing for the HMAS Bugly. It's situated on the horse-shoe asteroid. [t]http://i.imgur.com/HPlvubT.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/4YWZjUk.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/bFw35Ne.png[/t] There is also a guard station nearby in the cluster of broken asteroids. [t]http://i.imgur.com/eyovQKt.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/GtxkHvB.png[/t] I also took the liberty of updating the ship. [t]http://i.imgur.com/9ooXpDX.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/JNSkfAV.png[/t] Thanks to copy and paste, I managed to bring my miner ship to this world. [t]http://i.imgur.com/BHZuJWy.png[/t] Also thanks to copy and paste, I managed to bring the HMAS Bugly to the first world for a size comparison/docking. [t]http://i.imgur.com/ZeVWGsg.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/x1Ifk8K.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/rNbf30Q.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/vxRW5wG.png[/t] The biggest thing did, though, was this. I had broken the blue ship into two pieces 1.3km away, so I decided I wanted to bring it back to the station. I tried sticking both ends together, but that didn't work, so I put a scaffold around the front bit and pushed it using the back bit. This was tough, because any thrust would cause the front end to bang into the scaffold and start to break it. [t]http://i.imgur.com/MWMTvOq.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/aCG7TfV.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/UTZUgLn.png[/t] Here, I've locked one of the default fighters to the pusher end so that I can give it some thrust without having to fear that the front end will break through the scaffold. [t]http://i.imgur.com/7OmbPwJ.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/iwDEttE.png[/t] And that's it.
Alcubierre Drive.
Complete with unshielded blue-shift and lethal particle emission upon conclusion of a jump? :v:
Complete with unshielded blue-shift and lethal particle emission upon conclusion of a jump? :v:
It's bound to be weaponized sooner or later, might as well just make it easier!
you all know full well as soon as they put anything in the game that would be even close to a warp drive, we'd instantly attempt to work on a way for it to launch things into enemy ships or work a way for it to launch our ship inside an enemy ship, and then drilling its way out like some sort of alien spawn with a power drill
