i think that they would make for really nice solar panels if you got a big array of them. gets some greeble going on until they add in pipes and shit
My main gripe with ramps is I can't paint them to make them blend in better
I have good frameworks for ships and stuff, but its making them look good that I suck at. Same with minecraft, used to come up with really good frameworks for buildings and ships and stuff but could never make them look super great inside or outside
like when I built this (I made it half scale then doubled it to lessen my sperg)

speaking of which I think an MC to Space Engineers converter would be pretty neat. Tons of projects from a few years ago that I would like to move over if i can find them

Hey, that's the Akkan from Sins isn't it?
More cutaways of smaller ships :v:

I'm loving the simple designs.
Anyone else kind of wishing we could load up a map with a planetary surface and global gravity? I'd love to see how the damage system would handle a powerless, crashing ship.

I first start spinning the outer ring, then cut off its power, so it will not automatically use its thrusters to slow to a stop when I exit the ship's pilot seat. Then I do the same for the inside, spinning in a different direction. The inner cage has a hole on the non-spinning center axis to enter by, on each end. I flew small ships and landed them onto the outer ring, so that when the power is cut from the outer ring, power is not lost to the gravity generators (on the small ships). I cut off all the unnecessary stuff from the gravity ships after.

The result is a disorienting spinnycage. With one gravity generator on, you flop about the cage, and predictably with both on, you go mostly weightless. I say mostly because it isn't perfectly balanced, which results in the player seeming to sort of skydive around, and it crashing apart in one to three minutes' time.

I decided to make a ship using a more realistic approach. I am creating a structural frame upon which the decks and hull will be placed, here is what there is so far.

If only the physics were stress based instead of vertex obliteration. That prow is gorgeous.
The prow is one solid lump. Should allow for a ram or two, or in the case of a smaller ship, it should crack it right in half.
These struts really did make the interior more interesting. They also make for some nice places to hide lights and other misc stuff.

I am partial to the exterior.

I changed the front around and added some comms arrays. There is one on top but the render distance for interior columns is rather short.

Tbh the ship looks best from the rear. I also have not decided where the bridge will go yet.

Welcome to the gravgen science club
I love how you're experimenting with the game without building ships, keep it up!
Hmm... if you made it spin faster you could put tons of useless junk on it and then turn off the grav gen making the junk fly around and smash everything. There, I weaponized it.

My first proper ship, still doing the paint work for it. I am really happy how the rear part of the ship turned out (Design shamelessly stolen from The Mandate), not so happy about the front. I like how the new forums has this feature that if you type "shields" as suggestion that it already blocks your thread and shows several other threads with the same name so people won't post the same thing again.
best forum feature of all features
do we have an eta on that?
My god stop making such nice looking ships. It makes my moving-boxes look like shit.
Just take an assault rifle, and base the ships hull around it.
Thats how they did this thing:

For some reason, the gif looks more like the blue ship is flying at the gray one at a weird angle.

All motion can be described as everything else moving in the opposite direction
Hey, that's the Akkan from Sins isn't it?
It is! I had also started on the Kol frame and the one TEC heavy cruiser (its name escapes me) but I have since lost both frames.
Im probably going to build the Akkan in SE someday

I want to try and build the Kol Battleship as it was one of my favorite ships from Sins. Also because I have a collectors models of it.

Damnit I cannot wait for 64bit, I really hope that will finally fix all the damn crashing.

My build seems to have got so big symmetry has begun to malfunction.

I may have accidentally turned my engine/gravity reactor to a particle accelerator/warp gate.
