I feel like if they added it now, people would only build big ships and ram each other in multiplayer forevermore, whereas if they add survival features and such before MP, players might be more interested in those aspects before ship ramming.

I'd love some alarm strobes, so in the event of an emergency, you could shut down all the main lights and turn on red flashing ones.
Actually, here's what I want more than that. ACTION GROUPS. I'd like to be able to group toggles for lights/engines/gyros, and bind them to a single toggle. There should be no reason I have to turn on all my lights individually after I add more.

If they added actual internal atmospheres to ships, it would be great to if opening doors or holes in the hull would cause decompression. Imagine blowing open part of a ship just to see a bunch of people who weren't quick enough to activate their jetpack or anchored down getting sucked out.

just put the cockpit right next to the doorway of the module so you can quickly mount it, detach the clamps, disembark and get back on the main ship

Anchor boots.
They'd attach you to whatever surface is directly under your feet, much like a landing gear will anchor ships to surfaces. They'd let you move around freely on that surface and on to slopes and such, although jumping would immediately detach you, and you'd be unable to sprint. They'd function regardless of gravity, so you could walk around in 0g environments or high-g environments.
Think of the pastabilities:

Or even better, imagine you and a small group of allies drifting up to the side of a ship and anchoring yourselves to the outside. You walk around until you think you've gotten to a safe point. Then you cut open a hole in the hull and sneak inside that way.
Ships entirely devoid of gravity as well, forcing anyone who tries to board you to anchor themselves as well or risk flying around, possibly in a ship hurtling through space. I tried to get gifs of it working, but the filesizes were too big.
It works decently well, but until you can get drills at non-right angles, it doesn't work so well for larger ships.

i had the exact same idea
i was thinking more about gates/huge hangar-like doors being implemented tho, so i could catch some of those people offguard, lock them in, then disable the inertia dampeners and send them flying into space
I liked my drilling tower so much i decided to start a mobile version of it.

There's a lot more to software development than spontaneously deciding to add new features.
They probably have a well-defined roadmap for features they plan to add and in what order to maintain a stable game.

The ship is like a sheath for the massive dick-tower inside.
He docks to it then gets into the cockpit of the drill and moves it out and bores a hole in the roid.
