I made a basic, stupidly tall drilling tower after seeing some of the ones posted earlier. It started out really well, 3/4 of the way down things went horribly wrong.

That fucking boulder destroyed the drill and twisted half the rod and half the tower.
I will say though that the handdrill is actually pretty fun to use.

No, you don't understand how it works, the drill automatically collects rocks when you are drilling them, but when the drill breaks from going to fast or something the ammount of rocks will them create a bigger rock the more there was in the drill.
So the drill broke, not some boulder that broke it.

I created a large drill wall just to see what I could do and had a boulder fly out and smash in to one and then bounce off in to space.
And I just recalled another thing. The drill was still functioning after the boulder appeared and the entire rig began to jerk and twist. It finally stopped working in the latter half of all the twisting.

I'm still here, lost inside this same FRICKING asteroid. This thing is huge.
So apparently you're only allowed to use up to 30 drills before the rest of them refuse to function. I spent 30 minutes building a massive drill that had drills running up the sides to make sure the tunnel it dug were circular and when I hopped in to test it out, all the crucial drills at the bottom wouldn't spin.
:(

I discovered this when my massive wall of death refused to spin. Disappointing :[
I forget what page it was posted on, but can someone link that website that had a ton of spaceship designs.

wonder how this is going to work in multiplayer then?
not build a ship with 30 drills?
was thinking that if there were over 30 drills present on the map, drills after that wouldn't work. if it's bound to only a single ship then it won't be a problem

this makes me think that there should be rotating bits that you can attach thrusters to, so that you only need to place thrusters on one side of a block, and the block rotates to move you in the direction you want. seems like it would make more sense than just attaching thrusters to every side of every surface.
Can drills be set to stay on via a ship's control panel? You might devise a ship made of ships using landing gear to get around the drill limit.
I'm gonna make an unbelievably huge ship and see if my computer lets me get halfway. :v:

I have been wanting the same thing. Been waiting to see how rotating blocks and programmable computers end up being. Might be possible to make this happen once both features are available.

My dream ship couldn't be built, I need to upgrade my RAM ;_;
I kinda want to make the Battle Ark from the Homeworld Complex mod.

It's the big exploding one in the back. It's also about 2.7km (1.68mi) long.

Made 2 new ships, mostly just unpainted because I like the default metallic color. They really should expand the selection of colors.

I hope they'll allow you to use any color you want later on.
I hope they'll allow you to use any color you want later on.
You will be able to soon, but at this current time when you change the colour of a block it is changing the entire texture; hence the limited colour variety. (Correct me if I'm wrong?, have yet to nose around the games files)
I can't want to see how the turrets will work. It's becoming rather obvious that small ships/kinetic torpedoes will become a problem.

I'm sure they said it changes the entire model or some shit.

After approaching what command assumed a derelict pirate ship, it was clear that this is an ancient Britannica vessel, 400-700 years old, easily distinguishable by its white coat and the red stripes running along its length. However, this was a vessel completely alien to any known archives, and even though there appeared to be no power on the ship itself, the frontal area of the ship was still spinning. I deduced the mechanism as a secret scalar weapon prototype, explaining the odd signatures coming from the rotating mechanism, unusual ship design, and area of recovery being in an astreoid field in dark space.

After finding the entrance of the ship at the rear of the ship, and detecting no life signatures, I pried open the door with the pneumatic gun (which easily came apart) and climbed the short ladder to the decks.
[img_thumb]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/504698075365378004/97E7C573BAEE123273AD16DACE2F234866367F83/[/img_thumb]

As detected, no power, oxygen, gravity nor life source were found on board the ship. Seeing as how I was in the middle of the ship, I needed to make a choice on which direction to explore first. However, as I have found out that the ship is laid out symmetrically, I have omitted the other side from the report. 2 ladders were seen, the closest I labelled A, the further B. I decided to climb A first, work from the center of the ship first. Observation: It is clear within your very first seconds aboard this ship that everything was sacrificed for the weapon itself, as space, aesthetics, ergonomics, safety seem practically non-existent.

Ladder A led to nothing more than a walkway, leading to another ladder on the roof. This ladder will be designated C. Upon inspection, ladder C extended to a large, unknown distance as shown above and was too far to inspect before the rest of the ship. I suspected it led to the possible weapon platform itself.

After climbing back down, curiosity got the better of me, which led me to inspect what was up the ramp. A narrow hallway leading to ladder (D) was observed. These led out to the side wings of the ship, most likely maintenance shafts for the engineers.

Climbing up ladder B, I found myself in the main area of the ship, and what I found was alarming. To conserve energy and size, the main area of the ship was found to house cargo containers re-purposed to crew rooms. A total of 4 were observed, thus my report of the ship being crewed by 4 people, a captain and 3 engineers most likely.

The view of the captain's seat and his field of vision. The windows already had emergency shielding activated, reasons unknown. After salvaging what little I could from the mainframe computer, I decided to climb ladder C to investigate the last area of the ship. Climbing ladder C, I found out that it was a maintenance ladder, and it did lead to the weapons platform. I have also attached a short video footage of the weapon rotating.

I got really bored. Too bored.
There's a lot of talk about magnetic boots and spherical gravity in this thread - I ran into this blog post by Marek that addresses that and other things.
