[QUOTE=laserpanda;43080426]Sadly gravity generators on motors don't seem to work.[/QUOTE]
Motors don't transfer power, so drills, lights, gravity generators won't work by themselves, you need a reactor and a gravity generator on the spinning part.
[editline]5th December 2013[/editline]
I did that in the station in Easy Start 2, it was probably the worst idea I've ever had in this game
are spinning parts, by any chance, more powerful than regular ones?
I tried to load up a save and my frame rate wouldn't get any higher than 12 fps.
Fuck :v: I had a save where there was a huge cloud of rocks from drilling into an asteroid, I wanted to play with it using the rotating generators, but now there's a limit on them, they disappear
colorable lights when
I want to make yellow rotating warning lights on my mining ships
Can you create end-points for the motors, or is spinning all they can do? Like, if I try to make a door and place a block to stop it from moving further, will it just smash the block?
I hope they add like a bearing or something so you can create a solid spine trough the centre of a rotating thing, so that you don't need something like I got at my WIP ship (which is still kinda neat as you walk with your head right next to the rotating thing)

I'm gonna try and keep down the size as that also makes it less boring, i.e. by having some hangar bays under the translation engines instead of putting them a few blocks behind that (because that's kinda how I did it with my previous ship, which turned into a long straight tube with kinda cut off compartments)

self-explanatory
kinda buggy however, despite perfect symmetry it's center of mass is off, so it interferes with spinning and causes outer rings to fluctuate for some reason
Edit: just realised, we can build mass relays using this and the gravity launchers :v:

The center of mass is off because the motors and generators have mass of their own, it's not perfectly symmetrical :v

Oh well, since I can't anchor it to anywhere, maybe I should rebuild it starting from a station block.

Now it is anchored to a station block, but the outer rings turn really slow, I wonder why
[editline]5th December 2013[/editline]
No, really, why. The outer ring turns fine, the inner ring turns fine, only the middle constantly changes it's rotational direction
it looks like objects on motors might count as separate ships, but are simply attached to another
you cant use symmetry to build on two individual motors, nor do objects on motors also copy when using copy/paste

solution could be to attach 3 blocks to where you would normally put the motor, build from there, remove the middle block, replace it with a motor, and remove the other two blocks but I haven't used them yet so we'll see. Sounds like they could be fleshed out.
I'd like to see control panels start to be used to control specific things instead of just the ship. Control panel to manually rotate a motor? Extendo-motors? Etc etc.

Won't work because motor should be attached to a different ship entity. Also it requires more space than it takes up.
[editline]5th December 2013[/editline]
AKA we need some kind of a ball bearing, not sure how to implement it connecting two ships while they're already connected by a motor though
How would a SE mass relay work? Turn off intertial dampeners and drift into the AOE of the gravgens?
Now with 64bit I am attempting to make a full size pillar of autumn halcyon class cruiser.

Recent hardcore mining led to barge number three to shred its upper drill cluster from the main hull, oops.

It may be because you have the entire mass of one ring anchored to one side of another ring, so the middle ring is off balanced on one side by the center ring, etc.
In rl the rings would be anchored at both ends, not sure if that's feasible in the game or not. Loading it up now.
it always feels really wrong to not put grating over reflector lights, because if i didn't and the gravity got disabled people would get third degree burns and shit. just cause we're in space doesn't mean we don't gotta worry about health and safety

It might work if you have one side rotating to the right and the other is rotating to the left, then it'll be rotating in the same direction.

I created one that uses a circular outer ring that is a solid ship to keep it stabilized

You destroyed a perfectly good slinky.
Boo, was so looking forward to working on my mammoth ship tonight (been waiting until I'm a little further ahead with it before giving you all a peek on how it's looking, as a lot of the work lately has been getting a mirror of all I did on one side prior to symmetry being added) but I'm too drained from my chem test to work on it.
Ah well, tomorrow, and hopefully with x64 version, it'll advance quicker so I can update everyone.
I sawed one of my tactical carriers in half with another tactical carrier. this game is amazing.

assymetrical ships are great. Left side is kitted out with an array of missile lauchers and armored 2-3x as much as the right side, which has the launch pad and bay access. Maintaing 360 degree coverage with a not-ridiculous amount of guns is fun too.
It's funny though, I make these ships and they seem huge, then I drive them up next to the stock ships and realize they're hardly bigger if even that. By weight this is just barely not even a frigate.
Here's my current fleet on the save I've named "Federation", the idea being it's a Federation Navy fleet gathering resources to attack a nearby pirate group, which is another save i've created. Pictures of it later.
>2 Tactical Carriers, "Athena" and "Galactica"
>1 Heavy Gunship, "Caprican Pride"
>1 Mining barge (actually acts as a pellet scoop, since no large ship drills) "Eagle Dawn"
>1 Supply ship, the "Hoarder"

"Eagle Dawn"

Tactical Carrier 9, "Galactica"

And last, "Caprican Pride"
I'm a massive BSG fan btw, but I've been incredibly unsuccessful at recreating any of the ships from the show.
This is the pirate fleet, linked as to not spam up the page: [url]http://imgur.com/a/DPn7n[/url]
I wish we could assign hotkeys to certain systems on ships.
We would be able to easily separate landing gear intended for landing from gear intended for docking or cargo storage, and have moving arms on mecha-ships, and rotating gravity turrets, all sorts of stuff.
Holy shit imagine a jump drive in this game that lets you hop servers with ships you built in other servers. Just humbly building your mining ships when [guy above me] drops his whole fucking fleet on your ass.
I am very disappointed in the way that you can't control motor-rotating drills due to things after motors being part of separate ships.

That has to be the coolest server migration method I've ever heard of.

My next project plan is the Galactica herself. I figure after making the ship I've been working on, I should be able to tackle her as well. Maybe even try for the Pegasus.
I'll be more than happy to upload them to the workshop when I finish them. But it's going to be a while.
