REGARDLESS, the game takes place in a fucking asteroid belt, not a planet's SOI. idk why i just defended planets but its so not worth it. [editline]8th December 2013[/editline] i was pointing out a logical error but now i just look like i take space boats too seriously. [editline]9th December 2013[/editline] its late. [editline]9th December 2013[/editline] :(
I want action groups. Giant munchie ships should be more articulate and controllable than they currently are. [editline]9th December 2013[/editline] and sliders. Like a motor that runs in a direction along some rails blocks.
Holy shit, turning off inertia dampeners on the ship you're flying straight into another makes crashes much more better (I think). Atleast you can jump out the cockpit and run around while the ships are drilling trough eachother. here are some shots from before the crash. Moving out about ~2 km [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/703982671828349112/06B07859057C5946CDD4CF9763526A9C1F8429E0/[/t] fighter and bomber are parked inside the ship I'm flying in the pic above [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/703982671828344385/AAAE7F8F0BF61DC45E4901EFE88D09413A9A15C8/[/t] BRACE BRACE BRACE the way the smoke rushed inside was amazing. You can see the engines of the two small ships while they're being flung out (the impact broke their landing legs, and they too had inertia dampeners off so they just shot off) [t]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/703982671828345525/66D29DE8681A21C8332B4C038BF69D40F80EAD82/[/t] [t]http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/703982671828346609/3082E34A047AC592042146F21D1D6F581D7C1762/[/t] outside view. I didn't even know the other ship (the smaller one in the first shot) was between me and the black one, only after finding just the front of that thing I figured out what happened :v: [t]http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/703982671828479131/8114882592D3A73A20186C50927C4296A7E3FBEA/[/t] the remains of the bomber got stuck inside the other ship [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/703982671828348300/44B330CA10C9CE949FC80785C9F0953E8C89BD49/[/t] During my second crash I managed to break the black ship in half as well, but steam for some reason didn't save that screenshot.
REGARDLESS, the game takes place in a fucking asteroid belt, not a planet's SOI. idk why i just defended planets but its so not worth it.
um yeah why wouldnt you want planets are you a space nerd
Are people actually suggesting full-sized planets? Because that's insane... Space Engine hasn't even figured that out yet, and it's eleven years in development.
Space Engine? I think you're thinking of Infinity Quest for Earth. Space Engine has been in development for like, 3 years, by one guy and has managed rendering planets since the first year.
Are people actually suggesting full-sized planets? Because that's insane... Space Engine hasn't even figured that out yet, and it's eleven years in development.
No Man's Sky would like to say otherwise
No Man's Sky would like to say otherwise
No Man's Sky could be a flop for all we know. It wouldn't the first time. [editline]9th December 2013[/editline] The engine for Infinity sure was pretty its a shame the game got canned. The dev was pretty dumb trying to do it as a solo project though.
No Man's Sky would like to say otherwise
So would Outerra.
No Man's Sky would like to say otherwise
We really know next to nothing about No Man's Sky so we can't say what it will be like.
I like how you're saying that games are totally different, yet you're bridging faltering connections between games to prove that the features you want are "possible." They're still not going to happen FYI.

Awesome ships I'm also digging the background, do you have a link for it still?
Awesome ships I'm also digging the background, do you have a link for it still?
Thanks, here:http://www.ints.ee/asjad/BackgroundCube.rar
man I never realized how bad the old background made everything look. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/QPPmqfg.jpg[/thumb][thumb]http://i.imgur.com/t82FD5K.jpg[/thumb]

Whoa what, DrVagax is a moderator on Keen forums?
Vagax is the king of all space-related facepunch activities.
Not quite. If a life support system is so resource-intensive, and puts such a strain on system resources, then how does FTL get away with a really comprehensive system in a flash game with very little system strain? How does Minecraft, of all things, have an atmosphere system? (It's true! The game actually has two invisible blocks, one for a vacuum and one for air. You suffocate in the vacuum block.) How does SPACEBUILD, a mod for Gmod, manage to have a really stellar internals system that conforms to the inside of the blocks you build your spaceship out of? And how do all these games manage atmospheric simulation without causing everyone's computer to explode, or themselves grinding to a halt? No, the Space Engineers developers are avoiding life support systems probably for either gameplay reasons, or a lack of desire to work on it right now. There is absolutely no reason why, if they put time and effort into it, that they couldn't produce a well-crafted and incredibly stable life support system. But the defeatist attitude that accompanies "Oh, the developers have said it can't be done. Let's just forget about it." is INCREDIBLY TOXIC, and doesn't help the game at all. It's fine if they don't want to do it, it's fine if they've chosen not to for gameplay reasons... But "performance issues" is a piss-poor excuse for anything, especially when other games have pulled it off just fine. And for you to be defending that is beyond ridiculous, especially when you have no ties to the development team or the game itself.
Ok like, go read books about how computers work, books about game development, and possibly some papers on performance. Then you're welcome back to continue talking about this. This post clearly shows you know absolutely nothing of neither.
So I was thinking about getting this game for Christmas, Anything I should need to know about it? Basics and whatnot?
So I was thinking about getting this game for Christmas, Anything I should need to know about it? Basics and whatnot?
Watch the tutorial videos that they recommend when you start the game, it'll teach you the basics and if you wanna see what people have used that to make look on youtube for LastStandGamers, Videosage, or LevitatingGamers, all three usually have some pretty cool ideas whenever new mechanics or items come out.
Well, it seems I may have underestimated the lag in my reply last night. Not sure if something is hogging memory in the background or I just miss remembered how bad it was last time I was working on the ship. It's fairly moderate to bad lag atm. Might be fixed with a future update or so, like it has been in the past, but probably not. Don't think it's the game that's responsible, most likely it's the size of my ship. Will keep at it for now. With a lot of patience and pushing through it at the end, I might be able to complete the frame, but unless the lag improves, probably not more than that. It's a shame really. This is the best space building game I've seen yet, and was really hoping to finish it.

I swear to god every time I enter this thread you people are getting even more and more off-topic. What is it about space blocks that drive such madness in men?
