What does the actual golden throne look like?
Probably something a bit more like this [t]http://www.freewebs.com/pitofcarnag/40_k_emperor_by_DESTRAUDO.jpg[/t]
cruising through space in your newly built ship when BAM debris from a fight that happened 2 days ago on the same server cuts your ship in half
Or your station has a hole in it because of a nugget of wreckage that was violently detached from its home ship in a fight. Astronomically (hurr) unlikely, but cool to think about.
I hope they make a biome thingy that's pretty much a Space Hulk. The armors manly made are extremely easy to get through tho. With the addition of warheads to the game it becomes trivial to make a two stage penetration round that would go through reactive armor or that antenna thing (which is the same thing modern vehicles and takes use to detonate RPG's prematurely) All you need is to make your Torpedo's like this X============X or even more simply X============= The top one uses one explosive to destroy reactive armor and the second explosive detonates on contact. (make the torpedo long enough so that the aft warhead not affected by the first explosion) The bottom one uses a long rod to smash through the first stage of armor (those antenna's) and the explosive then detonates on contact with the main armor or even inside the ship itself. [editline]21st December 2013[/editline] An effective armor design would be to have an outer panel that consists of small blocks arranged in a series of bars to detonate contact warheads away from the armor. That would defeat the first type of munition. The second layer would be reactive to defeat a kinetic penetration round (ex the bottom type of warhead) and the third layer would be a regular armor. Reactive armor already invalidates drills because it would blow up the drill. [editline]21st December 2013[/editline] You would need a three stage device to break through that armor design and defeat all three of those armor layers and at that point the torpedo is impractically large.
So is there an ETA on the update. These teases are killing me.
hey didn't you mention that we were gonna have a big update around christmas? or was that the warheads?
Actually to get through the three stage armor now that I think about it you could use a variation of the two stage munition. X=========x Keep the seperating rod the same length and replace the contact explosive with the small warhead. It should be able to smash through the first stage and give the round enough clearance to hit the reactive without detonating the second bomb. Since we used a small explosive however there should be enough seperating rod left to detonate the reactive armor as well allowing the main device to contact the inner armor.
All that is assuming the first explosion wouldn't stop the rest of the torpedo or even send it flying back though
first explosion would most likely throw it off course I'd assume
thats why you give it high mass and use the small explosive for the contact. Or you remove the first explosion and just use a long rod for kinetic penetration [editline]21st December 2013[/editline] hell if your torp doesn't have high mass already then you're doing it wrong
hmmmm, I'll do some science tomorrow to test your theory professor
Lol you guys will be trying to figure out how to make torpedoes while I just go under your ship and place a shit load of bombs, blowing you up
hey didn't you mention that we were gonna have a big update around christmas? or was that the warheads?
I hope it makes turrets and mounted weapons usable. Even if you just took the rifle's code wholesale and pasted it on the gatlings, I'd be happy for the time being.
hmmmm, I'll do some science tomorrow to test your theory professor
to be fair the armor is already a tried and tested thing we do IRL.
to be fair the armor is already a tried and tested thing we do IRL.
yes but this is space engineers and I want to be smart with science
So... About those thinking huge crews crewing huge ships wouldn't work, I'd like to say you're almost right. Reason being, I played in a Mount and Musket/Napoleonic Wars brigade for a little over a year. (Napoleonic Wars is a DLC for Mount and Blade that's based around team-centric line battles.) With discipline, practice, and training, you can turn a crew of thirty internet people into a well-oiled machine, capable of completely destroying the enemy. However, you're not going to find level of teamwork from pubs, it's going to be the big clans running the big ships. People who choose to be part of something, not people who are drafted from the server's playerbase. I guess my case in point is you can't force teamwork, but it's entirely possible to get a group of people to work together if they want to be there.
It's pretty unfeasible to expect 30 people in a single goddamn ship though.
It's pretty unfeasible to expect 30 people in a single goddamn ship though.
Absolutely unfeasible. That's going to be a very rare, very concentrated occurrence if it's even possible. However, I bring up the Napoleonic Wars brigade I was in again... We have, in our peak months (June-August), about 150 people showing up to line battles every Saturday. So, too, do our ladder opponents. We've actually had to bench people lately, because our ladder server can only support about 200 people. I have no doubt we'll see leagues for Space Engineers, but I think that's going to follow the ladder tournament model rather than something that happens in the sandbox pubs. Of course, we have different regiments over in our Brigade. Most do. It's entirely possible, at least on the tournament side, that we'd see regimented brigades with multiple ships for each team. Say you've got five regiments in your group, why not give each regiment a ship with captain and crew? It works out pretty well for us, anyway. We got 5th place in the summer tournament this year.

pretty-looking, but i was expecting a bigger hole
no shockwaves in space.
Update isn't out yet? ow :(
Update isn't out yet? ow :(
ffffffffff
Did the devs add proper impact physics with items now? I just completely blew apart the blue ship with a single stack of 194K uranium rods at 70m/s, any faster and it merely clips through. All that survived of the main section was just a husk.
Now that i think about it, what's going to stop me from flying at your ship, getting out and placing a few warheads, then use one bullet to blast it in half.
Now that i think about it, what's going to stop me from flying at your ship, getting out and placing a few warheads, then use one bullet to blast it in half.
probably not gonna be that easy once survival is implemented
Not to mention third person lets people see you coming. Unless you were to somehow guess where the pilot was looking, where his blindspots were at that moment and how you could get into some sort of alcove without ever being seen.
You know what would be cool? Different space suits. Like different clans have armored suits or pirate suits or normal people have the default suit. Some armored suits might have different weapons (gatling gun or missile launcher?). Customization on the suit would be cool. But you know, I am being too optimistic and shouldn't expect things like these.
