What would happen if you made a small ship in a line, and have engines at the back, few armor blocks, generator, then warhead, few more armor blocks then cockpit, attach it to another ship with the engines on and release it at another ship, would it work like a bunker buster? i.e. cockpit hits the ship, hopefully penetrates a bit and the warhead explodes inside the other ship?
Protect the warhead by keeping it in the main hull, then slowly bore into the side of the ship, deploy securing clamps and inject the warhead into the ship via motors.
The Virus boarding pod.

Place beacon with name Mad Lootz
in middle of mine field

Literally the first thing I threw at ships when copying/pasting was added.
I had just seen the best description of the official forums I have ever seen
I come to this thread for amusement, and does it ever deliver. 14-year-old minecraft refugees dueling with 60-year-old model train enthusiasts... Genuinely amusing trolls on drugs (Hatter) being introduced to Godwin's law (or are they?)... mixed with well-intentioned, slightly autistic engineers that try their best to fit it all in rational buckets. So much fun!
I think a lot of people are confusing a desire for intuitive mechanics and self-supporting behaviors for a desire for the most realistic game ever.
Example, the "should thrusters need to be clear behind them for them to work?" argument.
The Minecraft Kids say that it ruins creativity and restricts the creation of replicas... so you attribute tracing to creativity? Wouldn't creativity be making something... new?
The Space Hitlers say that pointing your thruster at your reactor should have consequences. You can still do it, it's allowed, it should just act like the average Joe would expect it to work and most average Joe's don't run their truck exhaust into their cabin because they don't want to see it from the outside of the vehicle.
I just think having thrusters inside is dumb and unfair on those who chose not to do it, in a MP environment anyway
plus it helps balance ship sizes due to the square cube law

I hadn't even thought about the square-cube law in relation to propulsion. Great point. It has always bothered me that some people think that the huge ships should be nimble.
Try anchoring it closer to your center of gravity or in-line with it. You don't really have to put it directly in the middle of your ship, but in-line with it atleast.
You could probably add more gyroscopes so you can control your ship better when hauling, but it'd be more manual effort.
Also try flying without inertia dampening, because when you have an unbalanced ship it doesn't know what the fuck its doing.
everytime i come back to this thread i keep expecting multiplayer because i see 300+ new posts and im like wow something big must of happened and nothing happened at all it's just you autists arguing with each other about realism.
is this you

You just took a thread running out of things to talk about, efficiently antagonized every single person in it, declared everyone autistic and somehow turned your entire argument on itself by expressing how you're mad that an internet forum is having a somewhat heated discussion.
If I could choose between having an argument with you or having an argument with NoDachi, I'd pick the latter because at least he probably knows what he's on about.

Is there any way to precisely set motor limits? when i drag it changes by 5's
we talk constantly on fp about how shitty the SE forums are and now i'm not really seeing the difference
Is there any way to precisely set motor limits? when i drag it changes by 5's
the arrow keys
Anyone got a copy of that suspension system someone made a while back?
I think I can use it for a torpedo so the warhead doesn't explode until it actually contacts the ship.
[editline]23rd December 2013[/editline]
or rather is inside the ship

wherever you go, shit follows
I'll let you discover the pattern for yourself.
I think as engineers we should settle our arguments with contests, such as "who can build the smallest, fastest, and most functional ship to carry around a fleet of 5 small mining rigs, a refinery, plenty of storage, and crew quarters?".
or something like that.
or we shouldn't argue about pointless crap at all

That is awesome. I'm loving all the homeworld ships appearing on the workshop.
So... Has anyone given that any real thought? Why do we argue about everything, even seemingly pointless things? Do we feel so strongly about this game that we've got to bludgeon everyone else into submission for not sharing our views?
What I've noticed is that, any time something is suggested, it goes from calm to vitriolic in a matter of seconds. What causes that? What can we do to prevent it, or at least manage it so we don't look like a group of mentally-deficient manchildren?

I think it's a consequence of the existence of the internet. The only people who respond to something are those who feel strongly about it and people who like to stir things up.

I wish I could continue with model trains but I have not the space or money, that stuff is expensive yo.

There needs to be more Homeworld ships. Once I get better I'm totally making the Mothership!
I really hope they add a ship type that's affected by gravity. Shoving stones into small-ship rounds and hoping it doesn't randomly explode isn't very fun.
Put heavy stone in container made of small ship blocks and use it as ammo.
[editline]23rd December 2013[/editline]
oh derp bad reading.
[editline]23rd December 2013[/editline]
Looks like ships with giant swords at one end are the future because rotational speed doesn't seem to be limited and I can cleave through the entire red ship with a big enough sword.
HOLY SHIT SWORDS AND MOTORS.
WE CAN MAKE FUCKING MECHS.
