That's some pretty snazzy design there.
3 Armor / 10 - Would not fly into battle unless I want to snap like a twig at the first missile hit.
The ship I posted earlier has double-thick walls in most places :v:
My battlestar, the Darkbringer, has 5 thick armor on the sides. when Large weapons are enabled, im going to make turret pods on the sides. I left the top and bottom somewhat thin, so it'll have some vulnerability. Here it is cut in half for your pleasure <3

(the engines on the inside are spaced enough that you'll actually have to know where they are to pierce their armor area, and the 2 small ones on the side are simply there to move it back from the other half.)

wow i just noticed that thing has an upper deck I never noticed :v:

i will intimidate ur ship into pieces
Its funny because armor is hilariously useless, it shreds like paper at gatling fire, does nothing against missles anyways and is heavy as fuck
My fighter incorporates two single structural beams of armor, thats it, it weights only 8kg and is fast as fuck, you're not going to hit it with gatlings just because of how fast it is
That's a rather sad thing about games like this. People want to make ships that look awesome, but it's better from an engineering stand-point in terms of survivability and functionality to make big ol' fuckin' space bricks. You can make a very ornate ship with all kinds of sponsons and what-not, just for them to be snapped off in a single ramming maneuver from Little Timmy's Death LEGO.
Can you guys guess what this will be?

Gatling guns do nothing to larger ships from what I've noticed.
It's either a Borg cube or that church off the Doctor Who Christmas special.

Thats what missiles are for, theres no chance you can dodge a missile with a large ship, one load of missiles from my fighter does enough damage to the blue ship to sever it in half or knock it completely out of control

Which is why I hope they do something close to what I suggested some time ago, where missile pods can have a specified ammo amount, but each ammo count also affects missile size/speed/damage. So you can either have a fighter with a lot of smaller missiles for barrages against large ships or fighter-to-fighter combat, or you can have bomber/torpedo ships that fire a single large rocket per-pod. Having to re-load/re-supply at a certain place, of course.
Or reactive armor/armor plates...
Or, heck, just better armor. Really, we ARE working with light armor blocks right now. Of course it's fragile.
Oh dear lord this thing is less than half of the size of my last ship and yet it's lagging like it's twenty times bigger.

The problem is that currently a small fighter can dispense enough of satans kimchi in a single shot to kill the entirety of a small african nation
That last stand gamers guy posted a video where he was using loads of heavy armor, maybe you guys should too?
It has camo! :v:
post how to use/activate it?
post how to use/activate it?
It's actually a mod. The armour is there it just isn't activated: http://steamcommunity.com/app/244850/discussions/0/666825525322034548/
^ Ignore that, for some reason the paste has been removed. I dug around and found this though, use at your own risk, it isn't official: http://forums.keenswh.com/post/inventorymanager-rearranging-inventory-made-easy-6615059
huh, turns out it's pretty easy.
Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceEngineers\Content\Data
Go here
open cubeblocks.sbc
find all the heavy armor sections
replace <public>false</public> with <public>true</public>
??????????
profit.
Although, and i could be wrong because I couldn't find it, there appears to be no heavy inv armor bit.
I've weaponised the propeller thing the guy posted earlier in the thread, video is uploading.

So, i tested out traditional Artificial gravity, and as it turns out, even if you're being held against a flat surface, if you are not under the effect of a gravity generator, you cannot walk on it.
I quite enjoy the space camo look.

yes i went back and replaced every armor block on that boat with a fucking heavy one. yes it took forever.
are they a lot stronger?
are they a lot stronger?
I haven't played with them yet, hold on.
Then it turns out they crumple when you breathe on them.
[editline]31st December 2013[/editline]
anti-armor armor plating
Much heavier. The re-armored ship is almost twice as heavy as the original, and only just a little bit stronger.
First picture, the same projectile caused slightly less damage to the heavy tactical carrier, as compared the lightly armored original tactical carrier, on the left.

The lightly armored carrier is 5.5m kg

The heavily armored carrier is 9.0m kg

So wow, it's completely not worth it then if it's literally double the weight of a normal block.
well if they really are like that, i think i'm just gonna use heavy armor blocks around ships' engine rooms and control centers, doesn't seem like there's much of a point to using them anywhere else
So wow, it's completely not worth it then if it's literally double the weight of a normal block.
Alpha is Alpha. Keep in mind though that missiles are still OP as balls and the HV armour isn't officially enabled yet, so they may still need to tweak its durability.
yeah the heavy armor isn't even a thing yet, so just wait till they actually release it. I'm sure it'll be loads stronger.
Tmaxx you make some sexy looking ships man.
RIP for a day :c
I wish they would add a throttle for thrusters. It would make it tons easier to set ships on collision courses without having to take it up to max speed and turning off dampeners.
