Any idea on how best to do observation decks/cockpits/command rooms with windows for big ships?
Shit, I haven't been following this game closely enough, didn't even know about the buy windows.
When I do get a copy I know what franchise I'm basing my designs on.

I'm not sure what happened but I don't like it one bit
i really hope we'll be able to make gargantuan ships in the future or i will be extremely disappointed
Oh my god, when do I get to shoot things?
I detest building it by hand. I just want some form of 3D editor where I can whip up an immaculate ship in a matter of minutes, provided I have the resources.
Well aside from the obvious lack of stability and the limits currently in place, placing block by block by block 1 block at a time is so freaking tedious by yourself.
That CTRL+M1 thing where you can make a single line of blocks doesn't help much either.
They need to put in a second feature where we can fill entire spaces with blocks if needed.

Or hell, way down the line after survival comes along maybe they could implement some machine/system that takes all of the resources you've gathered and after drawing the frame of your ship (line by line maybe? idk), it'll automatically build the skeleton for you and leave you to finish the rest.
Which would save so much time.
Or maybe when you're "drawing" the frame of whatever you're building, it could put you in some editor-like mode where it shows a 3D grid and you draw the basic shape/frame using flat polygons or something.
(though the grid would only be for reference since stuff doesn't snap to an actual grid in the game)
This wouldn't replace building stuff on your own entirely either. It could only be used to automatically build the general outline/skeleton of something.
Like the hull maybe...?
If we're going to fight other players I expect to be able to automate fighter production at the very least and have them manned by AI pilots.
So here is a little update, I have expanded the station a little bit by adding the control tethers on the dry dock, along with a new attack fighter.

Just for the record, you are the greatest man alive at this moment.
Here is my the most updated version of the fighter, I had to rebuild a few parts of it as I noticed it was off by a single block.
I present to you, the "Pantheon Assault Fighter"

It was $14.99

If they add different angled sloped bits I'm totally building the Harbinger.

I started on the bridge but the slope is too extreme and it ends up looking dumb, so I'm gonna put that on the backburner for now.

I'm making some compact systems. In the middle is the fastest one with a bunch of reactors and a set of 9 rear thrusters.
I really wouldn't think of it as 3D printing though.
With my version atleast, only the skeleton is built which saves you time on having to constantly "visualize" where everything will go and what the structure will look like.
It's basically to save time by eliminating the guess work while making the interior of your build, it wouldn't build an entire finished structure for you.
I would have posted my thoughts on their forums but someone already beat me to it.
I'm not sure if either of the ideas are feasible (your idea that basically amounts to an automated factory or the one involving blueprints- which would still require the person to be involved in some way)
You have to be able to balance that stuff out and i'm not sure how they would do that aside from the resources.
Oh I meant 3D printing the frame. I doubt 3D printing a whole ship would make sense, this isn't star trek. Less material use overall, but more time and power intensive

Never stop making ships please.
So I decided to see if I could rip my carrier in half by smacking it into an asteroid repeatedly.
Managed to rip it in half.

Front half still operational.

That looks amazing, I hope they release some sort of MP on steam launch day
Here is my carrier I am working on, it is still very early WIP, Has taken me nearly three hours so far to just complete the actual hull of said carrier. It is so far the largest ship I have built so far in this game.

Heavy armour blocks are most definitely stronger. Hopefully final game will have stuff like "*insert alloy here* block" rather than light/medium/heavy though.
Or, from a couple videos you see the scaffolding being welded into actual blocks, you can choose which material to sort of 'weld' with, which determines it's strength, and possibly weight
Any news that there might be a demo available later on?

You are literally the most useful new user this month.
It's the whole build-framework-weld-together other parts of ships idea that has me a bit worried. Sounds incredibly tedious for building large ships unless you have a team of like, ten players.
While realistic, good luck getting that many people working together in a game where crashing things together yields realistic destruction. :v:

I think that is the point.
And welcome it.
This game shouldn't be about every fggt flying around with his personal star destroyer shooting everything.
If you don't like it, there is always creative and freebuild.

Well think about it, If you have a large ship, the only thing that's going to damage it to some huge extent is another large ship. So a lot of work was put into both. Would you use your huge ship that you spent a few hours putting together as a battering ram that would destroy both ships when a couple missile hardpoints on the deck would do just as well? Hell no!
Unless it was a lost cause and you had a self destruct sequence. Now THAT could be abused
I'm hoping for some Terraria/Minecraft/Starbound type tiering system, with some resources being more scarce and hard to find, but also make things like Mines that you could build a bunch of and randomly surround your outposts with. Big ships stay out!
