hot diggity damn i love that catwalk idea in the hangar
You guys realize that spaceships are built like skyscrapers, not like submarines/ships. 'Down' is the direction of the trust, not perpendicular to it. Why reinforce the stupid stereotype, it looks stupid for anyone at least familiar with how real things work.
I was checking out the website and pleasantly surprised by the frequency of updates and the functions they add, like the rotors. Thought it was all static. Might actually buy it today, but I want to ask first: Is there any hardcoded thrust/controlls/etc limits that could prevent me from building more realistic, skyscraper designs instead of horizontal star-wars-like ones? Does it have/planned to have solar panels and heat radiators?

Luckily we have gravity generators.
Down is wherever we want.

This game is about having fun. Besides, there's real world precedent. The Space Shuttle is laid out like a plane, not a skyscraper. So eat shit. We'll build ships how we want to. You can build all the skyscrapers you want, nobody's stopping you, but we'll build something fun.

Why do you imply that building a realistic vessel would automatically destroy all the fun? Space Shuttle is designed for atmospheric flight. And what's with the insults already? A very hostile community without any desire towards discussion you are. I want to buy a game and I want to fit in and have interesting discussions, not get in flame wars. Yes, my opinions differ from most of yours, but that's the point of discussion. Why have a huge circlejerk?

Because the first thing you do in that post is start saying we're all enforcing a stupid stereotype and our ships look "stupid for anyone at least familiar with how real things work." That's pretty fucking hostile if you ask me. Only later did you edit it to actually have a legitimate question rather than just insults.
To answer your questions: You can build ships in a vertical configuration if you'd like. However, the pilot's chair/cockpit dictates the orientation of the ship's controls. No plans have been stated for heat radiators or solar panels.

If you want people to be more receptive to your views, how about you don't start with calling theirs stupid.

I wan't calling people stupid or saying that they should 'eat shit'. Horizontal ships are stupid the same way the cars in gta blow up when turned over is stupid, even though I like and enjoy it and think it's an amusing game element. It's not an insult, it's stating a fact. I edited my post after checking out the game's website.
I also wasn't calling no one stupid a few pages back, but still showered with boxes just for saying "I think center of mass would be a good addition".

No, see, your problem is you demean the idea and make out like you're superior. If you would just approach it with a less hostile tone, you'd be much better received.

I'm just going to say stop being dumb because this picture is based on Rockets, not Shuttles.
Spor, you are a monumental knob. Well done.
Don't complain about not being able to hold a discussion when the first thing you do upon coming in here is insult everything - that's not how talking works.

"guys, your ships are shitty and stupid, I will show you the real way to play"
...
"why so hostile????"
the whole realistic ship shit also completely falls apart when you realise the game is set in 2077
Also nobody carees about realistic ships.
If I want to build a giant dick shaped ship with a cube in front with the shaft being made of glass I'll build it that way.

where is it

Remember when you said you're afraid you might not be the target demographic?
Well now we know you most certainly are not.

you'd probably like KSP more than this game
weird things that don't seem like they should work:
putting a gravity generator on the end of a rotating piece will give you a rotating gravity field and you can stand on the rotating piece completely fine. It's very confusing to be on
this gives me an idea involving multiple rotors, lights, and grav gens

And KSP is way more realistic right?

KSP is pretty realistic, this is just a workaround for not having expensive air friction calculations.
Since you can't steer off air cause there's no actual air in KSP, it imitates the force caused by air friction by applying magic force. Simple as that.

Guys, it was a joke.
Why do you imply that building a realistic vessel would automatically destroy all the fun?
but how would that even be realistic? the ships you're talking about are meant to be launched from a planet and are expected to land on that planet. your logic doesn't apply to SE because space engineers ships are built in space and stay in space
if you wanted to be realistic it wouldn't even be called Space Engineers, it would be called "Earth Guys Who Sit in an Air Conditioned Room in Houston, Texas Controlling Soulless Space Probes with a Twenty Minute Lag and Four Frames Per Second With Nothing at all Happening Until Five Years Later"
[editline]21st January[/editline]
or maybe "Space Muscular Atrophy and Eye Problems" if you're lucky

I took a long walk, bought the game and played for few hours. I can now completely understand why people don't want mandatory center of mass to be a feature. I'm really sorry for the shitstorm and elitism-spouting I caused here.
