I tried making a shipyard once, but when I realized the sheer scale it would need to be, I quickly lost interest.
So I've been working on the shipyard since I made the post. It's still very WIP and barebones, but I built a pretty cool mechanism that I figured I might as well show now. I'm still working on fleshing it out, but I figured this should be enough to show off for now. I suck at this game and it makes me sad. I probably just need to get into the swing of things in it.
We should be able to make motors that have no resistance so we can make pistons and stuff. Expanding ships too [editline]24th January 2014[/editline] Or even better. The ability to make ship modules that can be taken off and replaced on a whim via some sort of docking mechanism.
We should be able to make motors that have no resistance so we can make pistons and stuff. Expanding ships too
Actual pistons and better rotor support period is a better idea.
Actual pistons and better rotor support period is a better idea.
Another thing I would want is the ability to weld together preexisting ship parts.
Another thing I would want is the ability to weld together preexisting ship parts.
This would make complex rotor based mechanisms so much easier to build, the game is fucking stupid right now with how many landing gears I have to put everywhere to make even the most basic system work.
The list of blocks I have in my head right now goes like this Actuator(Allows hinge like movement) Piston Coupling/Decoupling's Mutli direction thrusters Control block(Using small cargo crates is fine for now, but I'd rather just have a screen rather than a tiny little keypad to hit) Railing(I think we saw some posted some pages ago) A wheel based mount for this rail 1/3 thick block electromagnetic blocks And I really want some kind of curvature but I'm not holding out hope for that.

This list is pretty much spot on, although you forgot to mention ramp-shaped armor pieces.
So what's with the bunk beds I've seen in some people's screenshots? Is it a mod? Because I don't see it in my parts list. [editline]dslgh[/editline] I'll take those agrees as a yes to it being a mod. Thanks guys.

A couple of teasers on my current project, if I may. Hey is there anyway of getting bigger drills? I wanted to make a missile/drilling platform that could borrow it's way into the ground but I can't put drills on it.
Drills aren't available for large ships and stations. Kind of a bummer, because I'd like to be able to drill large holes into asteroids for construction/mining purposes.
My friggin symmetry doesn't work anymore so I can't build anything big, because it takes the fun out of it having to do each side.

It would be cool if we could make giant drilling ships that drill through other ships

I really wish asteroids were movable, but I get the feeling it would be overtaxing on the already unoptimized game systems.
I really wish asteroids were movable, but I get the feeling it would be overtaxing on the already unoptimized game systems.
We need something like a grav-well generator to better collect loose rocks and debris. Just blast a rock to pieces with explosives, use a grav-well to collect all the debris on a single point, and presto!

It's not hard to build one, just build a bucket type shape, a platform beneath the bucket, then place a grav gen and a generator, just build the bucket and it's walls to best collect where you're mining from
yeah i think LSG attached the bucket to like a space minivan or something so he could seal the back end up. i wonder if space-age white van men are going to be a thing in the future

Something you could put stuff in orbit around.

I just built a warp gate for ships Just use the uranium ingots in the red ship, mount them to a small ship, fly said small ship to a frame work of grav gens, turn off power, and launch yourself past terminal velocity
how did you stop the from ripping the ships apart?
used 4 landing gear gripping onto the uranium ingot stack, one from every side, and built the ship behind that. as long as it's secured, the ship itself won't tear itself apart around it. Though if you have power on when you go through the gate you'll just about neutralize the effect once you're out of the radius.

I'll clean it up and put it on I have to fix some aspects of it. [editline]25th January 2014[/editline] http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=220889804 Here it is Some variations on warp ships and the warp gate itself is superior to my first design. [editline]25th January 2014[/editline] Although you may want to change the payload to a slightly light load as piloting the ships with the payload in front is hard [editline]25th January 2014[/editline] 83 km away didn't take more than a few minutes either.
I've been experimenting with rotors. [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/577886316440525005/A7CD761E077F28FC3B45886A997ABE83B41271F1/[/t] [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/577886316440524219/258AA15C52BE12DD5FA74557A1BCB4AF664AEE2A/[/t] Inspired by someone else's post about their battleship with bidirectional gravity, I've set up the station's gravity so that the generators are located inside the spires you see, with their fields meeting at the middle deck. The reactor and (I guess) communications relay is on one end, and the storage, living quarters, and docking station will be on the other end. I'm not sure what purpose it will serve other than looking cool with its giant rotating antenna.
