I just realized that almost all my ships are glorified rectangular prisms. How2fix? You don't have to be a skilled drawer, just do some rough side views, etc to get the idea of what you want to build.
I just realized that almost all my ships are glorified rectangular prisms. How2fix? I need to break the cycle.
If your ship has two hulls side-by-side a la the latest one you posted, try spreading the hulls apart, rather than keeping them inline with the rest of the ship. You could also pull a Galactica and spam external bulkheads. And if in doubt, add side nacelles.
Try to sketch them on paper before building if you have bad 'procedural imagination'. The last time I tried pre-designing a simple fighter, I tried writing a short description to explain its features and ended up building an entire universe around it from the carrier it originated from to the politics that spurred its creation :v:. KSH lore department, call me.
Don't worry, I've already retrofitted the thing with about 400 gyroscopes and hundreds of large thrusters :v:
One of my ships had a couple thousand gyroscopes, all it did was make the game run slower. _/:v:\_ However, it did make a nice spray of gyroscopes out the side if you crashed something into it.
http://blog.marekrosa.org/2014/01/space-engineers-development-update_27.html

The question is: which future change or feature will have a comparable effect. Any ideas?
I think in the last several pages this thread has had some great ideas. Maybe not ones that would double sales, but who knows.
Well fully functional realistic mode will be a boost for sure. More complimenting the existing MP though.
I'd rather have a chat system for MP than survival mode TBH.
TOVSTUN is a small civilian interstellar ship included with an SSTO shuttle for landing on celestial objects. It features 4 floors: -Underfloor: Prograde, lower maneuver engines. communications and waste dump maintenance. Access by central shaft (Central shaft is not accessible during burn) -Floor 1: Medium landing pad, small landing pad, 4 docking stations (on the other side), storage, control group gyros, main engine stabilization reactors 1 and 2. Accessible by two staircases on the sides (as are all main floors) and central shaft. -Floor 2: Living quarters, medbay, observation/recreation, FTS (Future science stuff) replenishment turbines for tanks 2 and 4. -Floor 3: Command and control, medium landing platform navigation deck. FTS replenishment turbines for tanks 1 and 3. -Floor 4: Recycling, production, maintenance. -Overfloor: Retrograde, upper maneuver engines, shield maintenance. Ship is balanced in two ways: landing pads/cargo on the first floor and suites/observation on the second floor are divided in a perpendicular line to the line on which two prograde engine blocks are placed. Big differences in mass are thus corrected by uneven thrust by the engine blocks if needed. For further and finer balancing on the parallels, FTS is pumped between the tanks before each burn. Large shield, which features an experimental design with only one layer instead of the usual three (Destructive, scattering and absorbing) in theory protects the ship on usual interstellar speeds will protect from the effect of a continuous bombardment of sub relativistic micrometeorites. To the point that I became extremely tired and frustrated by working on it. As a result, it's a bit unfinished (by that I mean it's mostly gray, and upper floors lack some minor decorations and maybe polishing. The structural integrity and general brushwork is done). I'm giving it to the community as-is, because it would be a shame to let all my work go to waste. TOVSTUN was a wonderful journey for me, full of learning and realizations. It had given birth to many new ideas and ways to execute them. Event Horizon.
I'd rather have a chat system for MP than survival mode TBH.
why is it one or the other?
What's that from?

Event Horizon.
A movie that performed a miracle by actually being good. It's a lot fun to watch and it's on Netflix.
I don't know why but I crack up every time I see the captain's chair in that movie. The one that hangs from the ceiling on the rail. Seems so unnecessary. My Dad and I just broke into laughter when we watched it for the first time. But yeah great movie! Go watch it.
I was hugely surprised how good it was myself when I saw it. In fact, I want to make a ship like it now.

Doesn't change how silly it looks though :v:
they accidentally pushed the dev brance to the public build. You should all be 01.016.003 now with heavy armour as standard
Heavy armor seems to be invulnerable to gatling gun fire This means that heavy fighters might actually be viable compared to (ultra)light fighters Though the sacrifices in mobility might just mean you'll get shot in the face with a rocket instead
With the new update, I tried something new and normally a structurally unsound idea: [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/468674025488586510/BBAC59391E1555BB2E22A400AAF7F5473FA79F8D/[/t] [t]http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/468674025488588074/379611DF2F1D5EDBF0B43506D3ACB7C03D46A172/[/t] [t]http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/468674025488589432/9EA9FD2DA0FECC52CCEC5A837706C8D6D15857EE/[/t] The big thing in the back is the hangar, with a rotating grav gen so that all the walls can have ships docked on them. I really want to do something more with this, but it feels like I can't for some reason. [editline]27th January 2014[/editline] As usual, this thing is pretty big (200~ meters long) :v:
They added heavy armor? Kewl. [editline]27th January 2014[/editline] Oh, it isn't much stronger.
They added heavy armor? Kewl. [editline]27th January 2014[/editline] Oh, it isn't much stronger.
It's pretty good for ramming, at least for the fucking around I've been doing of ramming armour-tipped large ships into stations, I find the tip fares way better than the station's hull.
Heads up, heavy armor isn't compatible with symmetry yet. I was working on a small fighter ship and added some sloped heavy armor to the side of my ship, and it didn't mirror properly; I had to manually correct it.
works fine for me
works fine for me
From my previous experience, heavy armor blocks only mirror correctly on large ships, but do not mirror on small ships.
So I made a giant drill thing out of heavy armor and forgot to take screenshots and it got smashed. Shit :C [editline]28th January 2014[/editline] I tried to make an FTL drive. It works on the design of that warp gate, But it is on a ship and you attach uranium ingots to landing gear on the ship, It was slow though, Have a picture. Basically it's almost not worth it for big ships. Also, attaching it in multiple places will probably only damage your ship in the long run.
