Ships with lots of smooth curving lines are a bit tricky with block-based building.
From the screenshots people are posting it seems slopes are available, which makes it not entirely impossible.
Hey they've done it in Minecraft, so I guess it can be done slightly better here, since there are some slopes [img_thumb]http://s.majncraft.cz/rendery/Normandy.png[/img_thumb]
From the screenshots people are posting it seems slopes are available, which makes it not entirely impossible.
Making some simple shapes with slopes yea, but making half of the ship oval and making it look good, especially on large ships... Yea, have fun, it takes ages to just build large ship, due to slow movement, now add being picky and trying to fix little details on opposite end of the ship + lack of symmetry tool. Say goodbye to 24 hours or more.
I want to make a Rokh from EVE Online.
From the looks of it, seems hella easy to make, I might even make one sometimes
I want to make a Rokh from EVE Online.
I think just about all of the Caldari ships would look pretty great in this game

Sure you can make curves using squares (i.e. pixels) but it needs to be macro as fuck to look at all like curving lines.
I want to make a Rokh from EVE Online.
Put this on a loop while building [editline]20th October 2013[/editline] Once I start playing in earnest I will build most of the Caldari fleet. They've got such perfect shapes for Space Engineers. [editline]20th October 2013[/editline] I'd suggest building the other races, but lets be honest, Amarr and Gallente have no hope of being constructed with our limited slope options. Minmatar are okay though.
Hoping they'll add some handheld lasers. For mining ofcourse. Nothing else. Mining only. Totally.
Mining of... enemy ships?
Close quarter combat?
Here is the update on the carrier I have been working on, so far I am up to about eight hours of work but still have a long way to go. It reminds me of that homeworld carrier.
It reminds me of that homeworld carrier.
I based it a little off that design but added my own touch
Its a good design, the first thing I did was look over homeworld crafts for inspiration.

Do a Rifter then. c:
Neat, didn't know that we can import Minecraft/Starmade save files into the game later on. [editline]20th October 2013[/editline] Oh and someone changed the space background, making it better.
couldn't do many to scale, though ;c frigs would be pushing on the starting ships size easily, if not bigger
Build everything to scale. A Rokh would be about the max size you can get in Space Engineers, and everything scales down below that..
Awwww yeah
holy fuck how did not know this existed? can I buy this?
Crawlspaces would be a nice addition, if somehow implemented. Smaller areas that you could go through without having to build a large corridor.
Ahem, we call them Jefferies Tubes.
of course my luck has me missing an early purchases by like a day :suicide:
So, what's the state of the human controls right now? Third person only? Can you crouch? Maybe it's just me but I'd like to see really fleshed-out first person stuff, just makes the whole 'floating around in space doing stuff' vibe stronger.

C to crouch.
Do a Rifter then. c:
weighs more than the large starting ships (in space engineer) is probably similar or larger in size as well, 62m long
Press V to go first person, you can see your arms, legs and stuff in first person too. C to crouch.
Welp, that's pretty much exactly what I was hoping for.
Press V to go first person, you can see your arms, legs and stuff in first person too. C to crouch.
I accidently found this out earlier, fell off my ship with a gravity field on it while looking down, was like "oh hello legs!"
Painted
I fucking love it when you can see your body in first person games. I don't know why, it just makes it so much more immersive. Bonus points if ordinary actions (climbing ladders, etc) make full use of it. [editline]20th October 2013[/editline] For example, both the Riddick games have awesome full body awareness EXCEPT when you climb onto boxes and stuff, when for some reason it goes to third person :(
