She's still got it eh? well, except for the disintegrating part :P
try making the tip out of heavy armor. It will be more effective that way.
Battery is a fantastic tool for Buzz Lightyear, not so much giant spaceships.
That said, I'll let it slide. The Enterprise had flux capacitors for the warp drive, why can't we have super-duper Double-A Duracell space batteries?
I don't get any lag at all from interior lights, it's the spotlights that drag my fps into the ground
Yeah, they don't lag if you only need a few.
It's only when you need more than a few hundred to light your ship they become a problem. :v:
Then again, I doubt they envision people building huge ships in MP.
How about the bug where technical blocks like cockpits/medbays refuse to be placed with symmetry on the other side, sometimes. Is this known?
Content: Haven't played much in the past few days, so it's still WIP.

First attempt at building something with proper, unbroken geometry (no weird stepped things anywhere).

Twas an experiment, so it's almost minimalistic, and is too brick-like, which I don't like, but I think this is the key to making nice looking ships. You just have to find ways to make sure the flipside doesn't hit you in the face: overly straight ships. Seems there's a balance to be struck between stepped "curves" and proper straight (straights and 45 degrees) geometry...
Game needs turning thrusters so that you can make proper fighters.
I was thinking about making a fighter that only needs forward and backward thrust (and gyroscopes) so that it'd fly more like a modern jet. It doesn't realy work in space. Besides that though the game realy could use some thrusters for making ships make sharp terms. Like if all the thrusters at the front of the shop fired left and all the thrusters at the back fired right. Would be cool stuff.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but it is glorious.
He gets it working around 9:00

That was how I expected it to work until I actually got the game. I actually built my first fighter with those facts in consideration Not too disappointed about it working like it currently does, though.

If you want a fighter that acts like a jet, use lots of thrusters on the bottom and top of the ship. The inertial dampening will cause a simulation of lift that jets and planes would normally have. If you just have the thrusters on the front and back fire in opposite directions, you will just spin the ship.

I wish I didn't find LSG's videos so tedious. All he needs to do is write a script and actually rehearse the video (this is especially the case for the videos where he's showing off ships). Granted in that one he kinda needs to ad lib it, but I figure if he wants to do more stuff like that he'd be better off streaming and then uploading highlight reels.

This is true, number of side/top/bottom thrusters directly correlates to your ship's turning circle radius.

this game is a never ending fight between making a ship that looks incredibly boring or one that looks like a total mess
This is true, number of side/top/bottom thrusters directly correlates to your ship's turning circle radius.
This brings up a another interesting point. There isn't really a good reason to have lots of thrusters on the back, front, and sides of a ship. If a ship has a bunch on the top and bottom, and if it uses those to get up to speed, it has all the maneuverability it needs.
Since the game's supposed to be realistic... I do expect to see laser weapons. No shields.. but definitely laser weapons (and rocket defence systems).
I gave up on my flying saucer. imagine a bunch of hangers, power cores and engines sandwiched between two spinning armour plates covered in weapons. Like a giant oreo with opposing gravity on each side... It realy sucks that stuff on rotors isn't grouped in with everything else when it comes to symetry.
I feel like having a ship with two spinning armor plates on top and bottom would be a really bad idea, because as soon as a missile damages one plate, the entire thing's balance is thrown off and it'll tear itself apart.
I tried crashing ships together on my fleet world and they decided to merge with each other.

And then when I tried to reverse them apart they caused damage all over the place.
It's really cool, but do you need a four-bar if the doors are only attached to the larger arm that is directly attached to the ship? You should put the doors on the top bar that isn't directly connected to the ship.
Holy shit, I finally got some time to work on the ship some more, and I was sitting there staring at it for a while, and I just realized you're right, I put the fucking door on the wrong bar.
I blame sleep deprivation, god that's such a dumb mistake

Post results!
Guys, I was thinking about buying this, but I wanted to ask a couple of questions...
1) Is it taxing on the hardware?
2) If it isn't, would there be anyone willing to show me the ropes a bit? I like the concept a lot, but it seems a bit complicated.

It uses a lot of neat shit like tessalation (I think), SSAO, so on. It can be pretty rough on lesser computers (especially SSAO), but you can lower the rendering. I've been unsuccessful in finding a config file to turn these things off though.
also, I realized I get slight disorientation if I play this too long. Spinning around in all directions is not good for my head :c
Game is missing the following blocks... I've explained them realy badly though.
Block
Half blocks (short blocks)
Concave corner blocks.
Long slopes.2x1. Basicaly Ramps. Ramp corners and stuff'd be good too.
Halfblock slopes
Slope to halfblock
Flat 'Plate' blocks
Wall less plate (catwalk) blocks
Corner catwalk. (|_
Half catwalks ([ and /)
Three wall catwalk (|_|)
Two wall catwalk (| |
Multi-face plates. (cubes without all of the surfaces)
Misc
Glass pannels.
Walls with windows.
Small ship turrets. Large ship missile pods/guns.
Strobe lights
More doors
Ladders without the surrounding walls.
Ladder doors
Medium and micro thrusters.
Thrusters with square exhausts (wo that when you put them all together it looks like one giant thruster)
not sure about that "halfblocks" stuff

I nearly threw up when I first played Shattered Horizon.
That game was damn good but it sent you funny - especially after getting hit by a grenade..
I'm really quite happy that I haven't gotten 6DOF motion sickness yet, because I had splitting headaches after playing corneroids.

You didn't even really explain them at all, to be fair. I don't know what "chunky" is, or how a corner block would be concave, when the corner block we already have occupies the least space of any armor block to begin with.
The windows are also apparently untenable because of the way the game handles rendering; the slatted windows we have already are about as good as it'll get. (On that note, I think it would be cool to be able to close those windows)
The point of not having turrets for small ships, I think, is that you're supposed to be responsible for your own small ship's defense.
Blinking lights/strobe lights that you can control for frequency, directionally-free doors (maybe more like "ports"; the current doors are kinda designed with the assumption that you're walking on a plane with gravity), and more thrusters might be nice though.

Still not seeing where the Devs have said we won't get glass windows, aside from one post on the official forums by someone who claims to have spoken with a dev with no real proof.
Can you show me something to add substance to the rumor?

I only know as much as I've heard in this thread.
I've never had 6DOF sickness, and I play games like Shattered Horizon, Strike Vector, Corneroids, etc all the time

well it isn't a mystery of as to why
Someone did make Glass in SE though, it works on the engine, they seriously don't have a reason not to make the windows glass.
