I still hope there are eventually AI pirates and such. They could have a workshop flag for pirate vessels that lets people submit ships for pirates to use, and a game dev or workshop admin would add the workshop file ID with a number for rarity to a list somewhere that the pirates draw from. Crowdsourcing AI enemies would be great in a game like this.
Ooh... Spore... Wait. Spore. This was a terrible idea.
I want an EVE rogue drone AI which harvests asteroids and reproduces.
I think I'd rather prefer natural disasters than AI pirates imo. seems to fit some more, and I imagine it'd require some work getting the AI to work

This game has come such a long way and is really awesome. Wish I had someone to play with tbh
Ooh... Spore... Wait. Spore. In my vision anyone can submit a ship to the pirate section but the workshop ID has to be manually added by a dev to a list somewhere. Then the game will download a random ship off the list surreptitiously and drop it in your world. There would be a way to define the rarity of certain ships so that larger ships don't appear as often. After defeating the enemy ship you can loot the cargo hold and salvage it, or repair it.
I'm hoping for some netcode tweaks in the next update, I'm playing with a friend from the US and we're having tons of fun, but it's EXTREMELY laggy, ships look more like they're teleporting around rather than flying.
That's strange. I was playing with a US friend (I was hosting) and he wasn't laggy, however, a friend who lives about 10 minutes away on the train was laggy as hell..
They should also redo the lighting system. For interior lights they should render them w/ raytrace (dynamic shadows) the first frame, then bake the result and check every once in a while for changes instead of updating them every frame. Then you could have pretty interior lighting with a pretty framerate.
I think I'd rather prefer natural disasters than AI pirates imo. seems to fit some more, and I imagine it'd require some work getting the AI to work
i think any enemies in singleplayer should be drones of some sort, space pirates seem a silly enough idea that KSW would decide against it. but then i guess if they're human pirates then they can reuse the player animations [editline]16th March[/editline] the main reason i'd rather they be drones is that they're A) a lot cooler and B) they have a lot of very interesting designs that would also make sense for space combat, like metallic tendrils for latching onto handholds or numerous RCS blocks. plus you can make them super creepy by giving them humanoid upper torsos and nonsensical multijointed legs (see the telerobotic Robonau with climbing gear) or making them look like weird and multiarmed monolithic bugs (see Dextre).

biggest issue I can find with AI is collisions. In games like the X series you'd either die or survive an impact, but in here, you entire ship would be fucked over if some ai decided that you weren't a big obstacle when heading form A to B. On singleplayer you can just load a safe (if you have one from not too long ago) but on multiplayer you could as well start a new ship then.
I think I'd rather prefer natural disasters than AI pirates imo. seems to fit some more, and I imagine it'd require some work getting the AI to work
I think asteroid-asteroid collisions that sent hazardous pieces of frictionless asteroid debris flying everywhere would be awesome to witness, interesting for gameplay and realistic (since asteroids must collide reasonably often in places rich in their existence), but probably hard to implement, and if you were in the path of one of the initial asteroids...well, you could kiss your multi-million ton capital ship goodbye.
Anybody want to play some survival multiplayer? My Steam profile's to the left there, if you want to add me.
thinking of that, would suck to even have a form of AI or any kind of disaster with the current construction system. losing something on a large ship is a very big loss
Maybe it'd be implemented well in the state that some of the game options are already, like the way you can change the server mode on the fly, and switch between Realism states and such. Can change it according to how far advanced you are or feel you are.
I imagine they'd be rare. It'd give a reason to have weapons and turrets in a singleplayer game.
I think some sort of space abomination would be better. Something like a simple flood spore enemy that just attaches itself to objects and slowly erodes them while gaining in mass and occasionally bursting to send out more spores.
Perhaps instead of having pirates the AI could be neutral and thus at every encounter the player could decide if they want to test out their new armor plating or avoid having their crippled ship destroyed.

I kinda wish the netcode for online play was a bit better. It's literally impossible to get back into your ship as it teleports around. And teleporting out of it is also annoying.
I kinda wish the netcode for online play was a bit better. It's literally impossible to get back into your ship as it teleports around. I played with a buddy of mine earlier who is from the UK, and we synced perfectly fine without any issues. it was a different story with another guy I know who is from the US though
I feel like the Realistic mode was made with multiplayer in mind, you can still get shit done but it'll take a really long time, it's much faster with even two people building stuff or even carrying components. If you're playing solo you're better off using the 3x or 10x modes. And I'm hoping they'll add some real hazards soon, like solar flares or micrometeorite showers, it's kinda boring if energy is all you have to worry about :v:
I've often wondered how radiation would work as a hazard.
I feel that it's all the refining which causes a "bottleneck". some of the materials take waay too long to process, and not only that, but they'll take up refining space so everything will get delayed just to get one thing done. right now I can't really do much because I'm trying to get my second refiner operational to speed things up, so all I can do is to leave the game running and do something else (reactor compooonennnts) [editline]16th March 2014[/editline] decided to wait 15 mins and see how many reactor components I could get within that time frame, which was 5. I need 65 more components, which means I'll have to idle for 3 hours before it's done. that's just insane
It would be nice if there were multiple slots for refining so that you can get two or three or even four products at once instead of having to wait for the grind on just one thing.
They should add a tool or some other method to specialize certain items. For example, you can upgrade your small ship cockpit to protect you from harsher impacts.
They should add a tool or some other method to specialize certain items. For example, you can upgrade your small ship cockpit to protect you from harsher impacts.
Upgrade light armor to heavy armor so you don't have to strip it all off and replace it.
Man I just had a good 4 hour session of this with some friends. It's so much fun mindlessly mining and expaning the starting ship. We ended up crashing the other 2 starter ships and using all their parts for the other ship. By the end of the four hours we had a nice little frigate, 2 mining ships, and 1 cargo ship.
Upgrade light armor to heavy armor so you don't have to strip it all off and replace it.
That would be awesome. Also, for clarification, when i said protection from harsher impacts, i meant stuff like ramming.
Man, gravity weapons are fun, its justa pity that floating blocks aren't affected by it, because it would be hilarious to build a block, build another attached to that, remove the first block and watch that fucker just tear through shit
Jesus christ i just irreversibly destroyed my favorite ship. I was screwing around with the copy/paste smashing, and suddenly Autosave. AND, JUST AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT, my copy of the ship updated with the damaged one, so now all i have left are the two little mining ships i attached to the side of it. And a giant scrap heap.
