Space Engineers - Say goodbye to Starmade and Blockade runner.

What's silly about space pirates even? You steal one starship and disappear into the void of space and there's a killing to be made off others. They don't even need to be outright violent. They could try to discreetly steal from containers that are far away from the player and avoid contact unless spotted.
Can you imagine how insanely frustrating that would be, though? And especially with realism settings being what they are - imagine mining and refining some shit for hours for some ludicrously expensive component, only to have it disappear when your back's turned?
I'm not against the idea of space pirates or enemy AI, but that is not a good implementation as it stands.
not the same game tho
thank god for that.
and yeah, they should work on the whole "persistence" thing, cuz everytime my cousin rejoins my server, he loses all his inventory and is stuck in another rescue ship.
its annoying cuz im the only one who gets to havin everything unaffected only because im the host.
what they should do is make it so when you quit, it saves your inventory and such, then when you rejoin you spawn at your respawn station, regardless of where you are. then the only way someone can affect you while your gone is by destroying your respawn station or something along those lines.
think of rust's whole "sleeping while unconnected" thing, but with less exposed dicks.
aside from that, im really enjoying the hell out of this survival mode. the amount of resources you need to actually build stuff really makes what you and other people build infinitely more valuable then just quick copy n' pasted ships. though the amount of resources needed to create some stuff is pretty excessive (ie "holy shit you need a thousand steel plates to even START to make a refinery"), i love how effort has to be actually put in to make things. really brings value to what you do ingame now.
You, uh, do realize you signed up for a paid alpha, right? The game's not feature complete yet. Of course they're working on persistence and other important features.
Also, space pirates make perfect sense. Or, rather, they make just as much sense as modern pirates, and modern pirates make a lot of sense.
(See: Somalia.)

that is obviously how it is going to work
I still find it impressive how the very first release of survival mode works quite flawlessly, seeing how I'm used to the minecraft way of things. All the machines seem to function correctly, just a bit slow but that's balancing stuff. Right now it's multiplayer which they have to focus on as almost everyone has issues with over 2 players, and stuff like the rescue ship spawning (although I still haven't checked if that really is bugged)
After 19 hours of realistic survival mode here is what me and my friend have to show for a station.

btw I've been playing multiplayer with someone. I wouldn't mind having more people to play with
just add me on steam and we could play if I don't have stuff to do.

I can safely say that I much prefer Keen's style of updating to that of Mojang.
I wonder if/hope that if once you fully mine an asteroid, big or small, it will respawn another to replace it. Although frnakly I'm still hoping for a change on thrusters, so that you don't need to stick them all over, or at least, make them invisible so your ship can look decent.

I'm quite fond of it.
i think any enemies in singleplayer should be drones of some sort, space pirates seem a silly enough idea that KSW would decide against it. but then i guess if they're human pirates then they can reuse the player animations
[editline]16th March[/editline]
the main reason i'd rather they be drones is that they're A) a lot cooler and B) they have a lot of very interesting designs that would also make sense for space combat, like metallic tendrils for latching onto handholds or numerous RCS blocks. plus you can make them super creepy by giving them humanoid upper torsos and nonsensical multijointed legs (see the telerobotic Robonau with climbing gear) or making them look like weird and multiarmed monolithic bugs (see Dextre).
I'm just going to state, yet again, that enemies should be robots. Big robots. Like this:

Gotta say, really enjoying Survival thus far.

Is there an easier way to collect ore? I hate mining and then having to drunkenly float through space trying to catch them all.

"This random guy"
Is me. Hi
Also nice strategy use of large ship explosive grid over the rear of my ship, much like griefers.

Drills vacuum in ore.
Me, RayvenQ and Mervenus (yesterday) have been building on a station in survival mode. This is how it's currently looks

Rayven and I build this section, the refinery. Rayven also modified that ship parked on the landing pad.

I wish I'd been recording when you turned the gravity sideways and dumped a shit load of rocks out of the doorway of the refining area, that was pretty aweosme looking.

Squeegy, no.
Squeegy, they'd implode. Just imagine the horror. A big squid robot spawns in front of you, but suddenly it turns left and instantly dies as all of its arms rip themselves off.
I'd love to actually play with someone. I've got a bit of a base started already, but it's a bit lonely. I'll be playing for most of today, so add me if you're interested.
Anyone know how to stop mining ships from shaking a lot?
Anyone know how to stop mining ships from shaking a lot?
Attach them to large ships. more mass = less shake.
Attach them to large ships. more mass = less shake.
I tried that and the small ship flung itself all over the place until the landing gears broke.
-snip-
yeah definitely buying this.
