-huge image that freezes my phone- I sure love making command bridges.
That reminds me of the pillar of autumn bridge kinda.
That old hauler I made yesterday I decided to re-purpose it as a tender or mothership for a pirate flotilla. Got to learn how those Somali pirates do it right? It isn't very well armed or armored, nor is it fast. But it has lots of room to expand for versatility and cargo space for you and your pirate buddies. But you got to do something with all those haulers you're going to capture right? You can't break them all down into scrap. Some interior shots ect: http://imgur.com/a/JcAZC
Wait how do you guys have access to the game right now? I haven't been following it too much.
Wait how do you guys have access to the game right now? I haven't been following it too much.
If you didnt get the game early the one(two?) times it was available from one of their stores you have to wait like 90% of people for it to release on steam the 23rd.
Progress on my yet to be named spaceship. I've added a small hangar bay for 2 vessels (unless you just cram a few per slot) [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/848093507554971305/FE2923BA53B2DC46EDD0DEF63ADC752450457EB4/[/t] Here's what it looks from the inside. [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/848093507554968028/27811B85EA0C2EE320E91EAFB2348802C3E1D39D/[/t] And here is a small cargobay (the vent actually goes trough the reactor rack and to the front engine room) [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/848093507554966310/DCD9A3DE683DB7D6315618AC5014B09E276223C4/[/t] I just have one issue as of now: the top of the ship is flat and boring, and I do not know how to fix it [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/848093507554973044/AF4E8F80CC6B5F66FBC662D9A508C6A3E32DA584/[/t] Perhaps one of you guys have a suggestion? I plan on adding a bridge on the top area, but it won't help a lot seeing how massive the area is.
I'm not a fan of bridges beyond being observation decks for your buddies to enjoy the scenery or to keep a lookout since they'll probably won't get access to the sensor. They're too easy to shoot off in a fight and lose control of the entire ship.
holy shit guys, how how do you guys even make this shit scratch, that top doesn't look very boring to me. in fact, it looks great to me, everything about that looks beautiful. loving the interior and especially those little cubes underneath your ship, awesome work

I've just started building a bit, take a break and then do a new compartment and repeat that. The biggest issue I have with building big things is that you tend to get stuck doing it too much, and get bored. It is best to take a break by doing something entirely different and then continue later on. Also, this website http://conceptships.blogspot.nl/ is really good for getting inspiration.
now thats a cool website
If you didnt get the game early the one(two?) times it was available from one of their stores you have to wait like 90% of people for it to release on steam the 23rd.
-snip- Sorry was in a bad mood and said something dumb. Thanks for the reply, Civil.
Also, this website http://conceptships.blogspot.nl/ is really good for getting inspiration.
Actually came into the thread to see if anyone had something like this. Alright time for my next ship! Going to have a tiny observation deck if any, a command center-y section in the middle. Also going to make it not look like a giant rectangle, hopefully.
Is there a limit on how big you can make small ships? The smaller blocks seem better at making better hallways and interiors.
Is there a limit on how big you can make small ships? The smaller blocks seem better at making better hallways and interiors.
At the moment there's a temporary 800mb RAM limit, but the only ways of hitting it currently are bugs or spamming an abnormal amount of ships.
why does the rust subforum have it's own ship >:( [t]http://www.igorstshirts.com/blog/conceptships/2012/smyk_vitaliy/smyk_vitaliy_00.jpg[/t] Besides that, does anyone else know websites like this one? I need to look at more ships :v:
Could you please sound more passive aggressive to a legitimate question?
You are aware that sarcasm is passive aggresiveness right. Besides, that was hardly passive aggressive. Simmer down.
I want this [t]http://walyou.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/District-9-Allien-Drop-Ship.jpg[/t] Also, I expect complex but simplistic engineering, such as pipes and power conduits to manage ship resources. I expect the 'engineering' aspect of it. I hope to god that building components such as reactors require you to make some kind of custom housing around it, for cooling/venting. Pipes to carry steam/oxygen (steam for cooling/power turbines) and power conduits to bigger systems like engines. Such would require you to put thought into your ships design, not just look pretty. Should your main lines get damaged, it would be cool if lights flickered/engines flame out/systems stopped working depending on damage. It would also be cool if you could have routing, so if your ship gets smashed and you are losing oxygen/steam/have no power you can re-route it through a pipe system/power conduit you set up somewhere else, and you would have to do that in first person. (I expected something like that from 0x10c) All this is of course based on how heavily they focus on the engineering aspect. I don't know, I may be holding my expectations too high..

Because right now all power etc is going through the blocks and if they are adding more resources then those will also be able to just go through any blocks.
Enough of pyramids and cuboids, it's time to get spherical. [img_thumb]http://u.cubeupload.com/ijyt/d71SpaceEngineers201310.png[/img_thumb]

All I want is for this game to be moddable like mine craft. Just let modders add in fun shit later. Edit: My phone is trying to predict the future.
Manual mode is what you have seen in the alpha video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3b9e_KWO-I. This is the “realistic” building mode. To build a block, you first install its frame and then finish the construction in several stages. The components required for the construction are supplied from your backpack and are installed layer by layer (like an onion). For example, to build a door you need 40x construction components (screws), 4x metal grid, 10x interior plate, 8x steel plate, 4x small tube, 2x motor, 1x display and 2x computer. Disassembling works in the opposite way; dismounted components go to your backpack. The topmost layer is usually a steel plate – if there’s a hypothetical situation when an attacker wants to get to computers in a door module, he has to get through steel layers first and only then he can gain access to the computer layer. The welder is the hand tool used for assembling and repairing. The grinder is used for disassembling. Damaged layers can be repaired by replacing components in those layers (e.g. if a turret is damaged and its integrity decreases to 80%, you most likely have to only replace the first few layers of steel plate).
A lil interview I dug up with some more info on the construction side of things. Looks like its going to be nicely involved.

While the fact that power runs through all blocks may lend itself to it being easy to make ships, it doesn't add anything to the depth of the game.
As long as wiring can be placed on the side of a block, and then won't interfere with another block being placed on top of it. If it's bullshit like minecraft redstone where you have to have spacing for it then it'll be a tad annoying to build.
Well even lighting needs to have spacing. I guess its just how the engine works in these games.
I have so much space inside my ship and literally nothing to put in it. :v:
I have so much space inside my ship and literally nothing to put in it. :v:
If you have enough space vertically, make an extra level and then separate it down into rooms.
You are aware that sarcasm is passive aggresiveness right. Besides, that was hardly passive aggressive. Simmer down.
Blah yeah that was dumb of me, my bad. Rough night, my dog had another seizure and we thought he was gone. He's fine now not it stressed me out- sorry I wasn't thinking straight.
Realistic and within 60 years? Crew members? yep Battle droids and drones? sure. missile defeating laser defence system? probably Hard light energy barriers... possibly. plasma guns.. unlikely nuclear rocket launchers... probably not in there for gameplay reasons Self regenerating organic hull... not likely Different coloured thruster fire... not likely damn. I realy wanted the last three.
