i can just imagine one of the arms being severed. then another arm catches it and holds it in place while a welding arm reconnects it.
I can imagine it being pissed off at a ship and ripping one of its own arms off and throwing it at the fleeing ship.
I wish you could grab shit, without a ship i mean, to move it around, so like depending on the weight and whether its powered up or not, like using your pack to maneuver the object, wouldnt half come in handy for stuff like torpedos, or even just ships you're building and you've bumped into, you could grab on and let your pack stabilise it.
So as soon as I mention SE to my friend, the devs tweet that the update is out. Yay!

That functionality is planned.
Solar panels are out, as well as various little changes.
I've mentioned a similar idea in the starmade thread previously.
A game that's like space engineers but set in the middle of ocean would be fantastic. Gravity generators would be replaced with oxygen scrubbers for submarines. The space suit would be replaced with diving gear, and things like thrusters would be replaced with propellers. The whole small ship / large ship thing would work the same, with a little box which you could check called 'submarine' to chose between sub or ship. Stations would be pretty much the same as Space Engineers, being used to build offshore platforms or undersea bases. Mining and refining would also be similar to SE, but building would have to take place in some kind of floating drydock / shipyard.
Dynamic water would be present for situations like sinking ships and hull breaches in subs too.
A game like this is one that I've dreamed of for many years and I hope to make one day.
That... actually sounds kind of cool. And not just submarines, but other boats too.
I was about to complain about small ships damaging large ships, but
- thrusters now deal damage to objects, except:
* small ship thrusters that don’t damage heavy armor blocks (so you can build landing platforms)
they already thought about that! thank you keen
Just tested it out and seems like small ship thrusters do still damage heavy station plates, well they dent them at least.
And I can still not place any ingots in my assemblers.
What gives?
I assumed they were giving you full control over the settings,

nope
I think salvaged parts should cause the created block to be damaged easier or some sort of loss in durability. It only makes sense if you are salvaging them with a hacksaw. If you want good blocks and perfect durability, you should have to scrap all the parts you get and remake them in the refiner. A frankenstein ship should not equal a brand new assembler made ship.
So apparently thrusters check if there are blocks in a straight line behind them, if not, they work properly.
If something is in the way, they start damaging everything around the "flame".
In other words, my mining ship broke in half, destroying the cockpit and killing me :v:
I thought it'd be fine when I first designed it, but apparently drills have huge collision models
I had a landing platform arranged like this (h= heavy, s = space.no block, L = light plate)
H
S
L
Landing one of my light ships on the landing pad didn't damage the Heavy armor plate, but it did damage the light block underneath the space.
Also I found this poll on the official site

Environmental hazards most likely coming soon/eventually
Working ona conceptual heavy bomber (though it actually usses missles)
It's designed to attack parralel to the ship, rather than facing at the enemy ship, thusly, its bottom half is heavily armoured, while its top isn't particularly, it's also heavily sloped and angular, designed to deflect any incoming defensive fire. Yes it kind of is butt ugly, but it's still WIP and it's kinda meant to be butt ugly.

The interior, which i designed around the idea that conveyors and storage containers will eventually work properly. Also, wanted to walk to the cockpit but still have ti feel cramped on the inside.

Thrusters dealing damage to blocks at last, huh? Every single one of my TIEs is now inoperational. Is it a setting you can disable, or is that functionality planned to be added? That would be nice.
How effective is thruster damage currently? Wondering if I could use it for escape pods i.e. covering the launch tube with light armor so it's not completely exposed nor requires a fiddly door mechanism, and using a large reverse thruster to burn through it before launch.

Parked up two large ships at my asteroid base and was walking around at 45 degrees wondering what was going on until I realised I hadn't edited the two ships gravity fields whoops.
Also now I need to majorly edit one of my cap ships so it doesn't exploide when I use it.
If they make engines damage blocks that are around the direction of the thruster pushing away, that means I'm gonna have to rebuild the rear of my ship...Damn. Still my ship looked like crap anyway so I guess it's not a bad excuse.
I just had to jinx myself. BACK TO THE REBUILD!
Thankfully all my designs unconciously followed the pattern of having all thrusters aimed away from anything.

You know there is a game very much like this in development. Pretty sure you can get it on Early Access..

Not quite the same as what you described but meh, it might get there.
The only one of my ships that got ABSOLUTELY fucked by thruster damage is the ulysses, where I put all the thrusters inside so it would still look nice. Most of the rest of my ships just need the reactor room redesigned.
Oh boy, new updates! Can't wait to finally finish up my ship, paint it with custom colors and add solar pa

I give up trying to make ships.
Damnatus is an infinite drill generator.

thruster damage p much boned just about every ship i've made

Solar panels are pretty though!

This thing goes 0-104 in 4 seconds flat thanks to the Titan capital ship engines powering it. Hopefully they don't melt the engine housing with thruster damage.

I think thruster damage is a good first step for a very cool feature.
Window blocks should be immune to thruster damage - so that you can have "exhaust vents" and for hangar bay floors.
Above all I want the devs to expose a mod api.

This is a little ridiculous, these thrusters are not even hidden.
I have made 20-40 ships, a good mix of small and large ships and the only one that does not completely destroy itself and remains functional is this one:
[img_thumb]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/54374248/SpaceEngineers%202013-12-29%2021-24-20-11.png[/img_thumb]
There HAS to be an option to turn thruster damage off.
just stop designing shit ships
