yes thrust vectoring you can do lots of things on a real spacecraft I'm still not seeing how this is an argument for internal thrusters and your point about how you should just be able to 'deflect' your ships thrust with its wings and still manage to fly like all the thrust suddenly isn't going downwards doesn't make any sense in reality sorry
It's not. My thrusters are not internal, you still complained about them because "thats not how thrusters work." But somewhere you have to draw a line. Yes, in real life, the thrust would be directed downwards. But in real life, the thrust would be routed through the wings and out the sides through armored ports, which isn't possible in the game. You are bitching and moaning because it doesn't fit your image of 'realism' even though in reality we wouldn't be bound to such a small selection of parts. Since you are not reading words, here is a picture to help you understand. If possible that is how I would run the thrust. It's not, so I did it this way. Hell, if possible, I'd just use RCS thrusters that don't melt through armor plates. But that's not possible either.
then just put your thrusters where you want the 'vents' to be ?? they're pretty much just that anyway powered by magicjuice that runs through the blocks already
They're too exposed there.
then just put your thrusters where you want the 'vents' to be ??
Will look ugly.
I want to bury my combustion chamber in armor and vent the exhaust from an armored area. This is a slow moving gunship, it's vulnerable to being disabled if all the thrusters are hanging out.
They're too exposed there.
so a destroyed thruster won't work but a destroyed vent would ?? This is a slow moving gunship, it's vulnerable to being disabled if all the thrusters are hanging out.
well some people want energy shields and teleporters
so a destroyed thruster won't work but a destroyed vent would ??
I guess a partially destroyed vent would work more than a destroyed thruster. Sure, the thrust wouldn't be coming out EXACTLY the direction it should be, but at least it'd be coming out.
so a destroyed thruster won't work but a destroyed vent would ?? [editline]20th March 2014[/editline] well some people want energy shields and teleporters
Armoring thrusters is a little more viable than energy shields and teleporters, that's irrelevant. A destroyed vent can be closed internally and the thrust can be rerouted to a different vent. I don't expect them to go through so much trouble for complex thrust systems, which is why they shouldn't make 'the next best thing' unachievable. Dig?

[editline]20th March 2014[/editline] well some people want energy shields and teleporters
the vent would imply at least one layer of protection, with the fact that the thruster is now buried inside the body of the craft also offering protection, as it is harder to hit now

If I could I wouldn't be complaining about my armor melting off.
that is called 'armouring them the wrong way'
"Fuck reading comprehension, I don't need that shit." [editline]20th March 2014[/editline] We aren't even considering the fact that if exhaust gases were hot enough to melt armor as they came out of the system, they'd be melting the system. You will probably compare them to a welding torch but that isn't valid because this system creates the thrust internally then focuses and expels it through the nozzle we see, whereas a welding torch's flame is created ahead of the nozzle.
sure carry on building ships with imaginary parts in mind and continue to complain when they don't work because of lack of imaginary parts this has gone on for too long
I just hope we get to color the thrusterblocks in a later patch, since it's a bit annoying to look at alot of grey blocks when the rest of the ship is red or something else.
many of the blocks are incomplete
This game seems super fun but it's a bit boring alone... especially survival :( wish someone would play with me
56 new posts. You fuckers got me excited.
I think I will wait with survival once we get dedicated servers. I hope there'll be a way to place back pieces of asteroid later to make secret bases.
Nodachi, I'm sure you're aware that people play this game to build cool-looking ships, not just functional ones. Not that those are mutually exclusive, but it's kind of dumb to criticize someone for playing differently or for a different reason than you.
I think thruster damage is a good first step for a very cool feature. Window blocks should be immune to thruster damage - so that you can have "exhaust vents" and for hangar bay floors. Above all I want the devs to expose a mod api.
A mod API and dev console would be nice additions at some point. They're not really high priority though. The window immunity to thruster damage might be really nice, but is thruster damage calculated differently to the other types of damage in the game?
Aaaanyway... finished the long conversion process on most of my ships. Had to do some radical redesigns on a lot of the small ships, but everything seems good now. Only one of my ships didn't need anything done to it and it was this cute little guy: [t]http://i.imgur.com/vRWsKag.jpg[/t]

I'm really pleased with the "scaffolding" effect that unwelded parts produce.
The hangar was super boring until scaffolding came along. It ended up being quite tedious to do anything with it, though, so I just use it to store ships... since it's buried so deep in the asteroid itself, blasting out room for refineries and stuff became extremely hazardous to the existing structure and drilling takes too long, so I lost interest.
I always designed my ships with the thrusters armored, but not covered, because i figured a patch like this would happen eventually. I only had to edit two ships, one was because of a design mistake where two front thrusters were covered, and another was that a patch of armor was only 2 blocks away from two front thrusters, but i didn't mind it until now. I had always considered covered thrusters cheap. It has it's place on stealth ships though, where windows could be used to mask the light.
I've never 'covered' thrusters on my large ships, only embedded them in side armor and used ramps to give them an escape route. I did that so I could have flat sides on traditional looking warships instead of thruster blocks sticking off all over the place. Anyway, hardly a need to now that I've started using the armored thruster blocks. [t]http://i.imgur.com/CvTLH3S.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/7BoUNfG.jpg[/t]
Painted my ship! Although now with the thruster damage changes I'll probably have to move a few things [t]http://i.imgur.com/WsKG2P0.png[/t] looks kinda goofy in this perspective [t]http://i.imgur.com/5IwSKA8.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/vflLu5a.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/lXjC54y.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/TmkhzDf.png[/t] I AM SPACESHIP [t]http://i.imgur.com/KSljgHx.png[/t] Interior could use a bit of work. [t]http://i.imgur.com/OsddS6b.png[/t] view towards aft [t]http://i.imgur.com/oImYOZA.png[/t] the reason its so agile [t]http://i.imgur.com/tuHlIqM.png[/t] the bridge I guess [t]http://i.imgur.com/DxQmmnv.png[/t] main reactor room [t]http://i.imgur.com/4gFocre.png[/t] and the very rear is just a refinery and assembly center
I tried playing survival today. I did red crashed ship. Got all the way to finishing my refinery [sp]and sacrificing my only cockpit to get a display :([/sp] and then I just couldn't access it. I pressed t on the cargo door thing, on the keypad, nothing. I was stuck there looking at my fully made assembler like an idiot. My engines are on too..
