Wait is that yellow one a small ship? Small ships can be that big?
It's held together by rotors and landing gear, so parts of it are made of small ship components while the main body is large ship blocks. I'm amazed it doesn't spaz out and blink out of existence like all my ball turrets seem to do.

Stop being such a pretentious arsehole and shut up. There is no need for this shite.
BEGIN
Painted my ship! Although now with the thruster damage changes I'll probably have to move a few things

Totally stealing that engine cowling design. Too cool.

Thanks! :D
I was inspired (partially) by the Astero from EvE Online, I must admit
holy shit the new thrusters update
I just tried to move one of my behemoths and it just fucking exploded into a billion pieces

hardcore
Yay, I didn't start the shitposting this time!
Anybody want to do multiplayer survival?
I'd rather sacrifice "accuracy" for more creativity with making designs. Thruster damage seems like a pointlessly hampering change. It renders a crap ton of designs as useless until an option is implemented to turn it off.

You fuckers got me excited.
Yea I came here expecting something interesting like a secret update, but I got an argument. :v:

Yeah... I'll also need to redesign the things I'm working on after I remembered that.
how do you get frame blocks in creative, just grind the pieces you want to have the frame look?

It has been suggested numerous time and it will come. Dev-test build should get it soon.

Also trying to convince the team to go to Gamescom 2014
My small ships in survival seem to start from a landing leg, and not from a block! Anybody have an idea why? Is this a new feature?
My small ships in survival seem to start from a landing leg, and not from a block! Anybody have an idea why? Is this a new feature?
It allows you place a landing gear on a platform so that the ship won't fly away if you bump it. Also occurs for large ships. If you spawn a station, I think it still spawns a block in survival.
with the addition of solar panels I feel they also need to add wires so we can hook up the solar panel on the other end of a rotor to the main ship, or let power flow through rotors.
batteries would also be a nice thing to add. that way people would still be able to make small ships without reactors, but running on the electricity produced with the solar panels from for example, your solar panel farm on your station.
Omni-directional weak RCS thrusters would be nice, too
That + batteries = space forklift for moving cargo containers around :v:
I haven't played a few months. What's happened?
I've never 'covered' thrusters on my large ships, only embedded them in side armor and used ramps to give them an escape route. I did that so I could have flat sides on traditional looking warships instead of thruster blocks sticking off all over the place. Anyway, hardly a need to now that I've started using the armored thruster blocks.

Are those thrusters included in some mod that I don't know about? I'd really like to have such thrusters! :D

Basically multiplayer and survival mode, it's about as fun as it sounds
Though there are no real hazards yet, you can die, but it takes effort to do so

it's not pointless
forcing players to put thrusters on the outside gives them a vulnerability that can be exploited
I feel like there also could be some nice use of a solar power realism slider.
The way they currently handle would be the Realistic setting.
Then there should be also realistic x10, realistic x500 realistic x1000
you currently need around 130 solar panels at full effect to power a refinery.
When I heard about solar panels I also wanted to try making a large ship mostly powered from them.
But that was quickly shut down when I added 200 solar panels to one of my large ships from creative and switched it to survival, tried to drive it and saw 20.000% power use.

Isn't that a good thing? It means the ship's using 20% of the power available, at least it works that way for reactors.

Ok so i guess its 20,000% then for Eu and I accidentally made the american version or something.
But the most universal way of saying it would be 20000%
I think he means 20k% power usage, it's just that in some countries you use dot (.) to make numbers easier to read, while in others, you use comma (,)
Basically dot and comma have the opposite effects of each other from country to country

Oh, we don't use thousands separators at all here in Poland (or just spaces, like 20 000), I got confused and thought it was just 20% :v:
In the US we either don't use thousand separators or use the comma for that job, while the period (or dot) is used for decimals.
4.004 is four and four thousandths
4,004 or 4004 is four thousand four
[editline]21st March 2014[/editline]
Sometimes, although extremely rare, I occasionally see the spaces like what you described in Poland.
The thruster change is the absolute best
sure having interior thrusters might be easier or whatever, but nothing quite gets across the idea of THRUST as having to direct the fire away from your ship
I love it. It feels like you're truly directly a magnificent force rather than just "THIS BLOCK MAKES YOUR SHIP GO IN X DIRECTION"
Just a shame that magnificent force melted my main ship in half. :v: Pretty cool though.
I'm glad they made that change. always felt that it was a pretty cheap move to put thrusters on the inside
Does anyone else think objectives would be a good thing, with a bit of back story added in?
For example;
Your mining company has sent you on a deep space mineral exploration mission, in a deep sleep induced state, in a specialist, but very basic vessel (like the yellow one you get at the moment).
Your mission is to establish a mining outpost, construct a transportation vessel to take the products back to earth, and collect x amount of different ores to transport back.
You would have to fill certain criteria for the transportation vessel, so that it's not just a fuck load of containers with a thruster strapped on, and deliver this vessel to a point on the map once you have the required ore and enough fuel, where it will travel back to earth. (This vessel could even be a special block?)
I think this coupled with the planned environmental and potential AI hazards could make a very fun survival, with a proper goal in place.
