a little proud. made it too small though, not enough power and no space for gravity generator.
Messing about with the idea of a diagonal hangar entrance to minimise direct fire into the bay. Does mean that it's difficult to get out in a hurry, and might mean even more damage is done just by my bad flying; but so far I have managed to get my fat bastard of a cargo hauler through it.
Main problem is the camera; it will not allow you to view at an angle that does not have line of sight on the actual cockpit module in small ships, and it gets twitchy in confined spaces. So i'd have to build oversized hangar entrances, which kind of defeats the purpose of minimising the targetable area, and so I might as well just go for a regular hangar entrance with a kind of wall that is easy to navigate past.

Why not have the hangar entrance be a shaft down into the hangar itself? Have it like you do now, but instead of making it go down diagonally, just have it drop once you get inside. Maybe put the door on the top of your ship, and have the bay in the bottom.
You'd still have to sort something out for scrambling fighters, but that might work a bit better.
I think I might have hit upon a solution; having the hangars arranged like so on either the top or bottom. The space between them is more than wide enough for my largest small ships to move without having to be too precise. Also might look fairly cool.

Although unless we get rather sophisticated AI teammates, or servers are run where a team operates a single large ship each, then fighters are likely to be very pointless.
Servers can be run to do whatever you want, man. I fully expect CTF and other gamemodes to be present.
I remember once seeing a video of an IL-2 Sturmovik FP server where 2 teams of players would each crew a gigantic bomber, and just joust each other :v
Looked like a massive amount of fun, and i'd imagine it'd be just as fun with spaceships.

It's really agile and fast, but lightly armored except for the prow. Which with some adjustments like moving the directional thrusters and the weapons further back it'll make for pretty good ramming/boarding.
The nice part about waiting for this game to come out is looking at peoples creations. I think it has swung me to buying the Steam release even if it never develops beyond a ship builder.
I added some stuff to the roof on my ship, and I figured out that adding hangars would be both practical and make it look prettier, along with essentials like engines and stuff. I also added an armor plate to make the flat part at the back (which is empty space and the staircase) to give some variety.

I wonder if it would be possible to build a ship with some sort of proboscis that can be used to ram a ship, puncture a hole in the side, and allow a boarding party to enter.

Hollow tunnel, probably 10 units long, with a 3 unit long ramming tip, basing that on how easily these ships rip apart.

I had a similar idea, make a long spear formed ship, it penetrates the enemy ship's outer armour, then out of the tip a swarm of small vessels with drills start tearing up the insides of the enemy ship.
I'm excited for the idea of matches between capital ships including small craft capable of surgically detaching chunks of hull or engine nacelles.

The reason ships rip apart so "easily" is because when you crash into a ship, it tries to keep itself stationary, so it pushes back against the ramming ship.
Turn off the reactors of one and try crashing into it then, much harder.

Turn off both of them, you can turn off reactors while flying and it'll preserve momentum.
If there is going to be 3D modding so we can add objects to the game, then i'm sure hoping for some props pack so i can decorate my ship.

Yeah, and should be decently substantial, but no changelog up yet.
