does this game have an active multiplayer? is the multiplayer fun? how buggy is this early access game?
Currently, multiplayer consists of games hosted by friends; there are no dedicated servers yet. The multiplayer can be fun, yeah, but (as always, I guess) it depends on who's playing. In one game it was basically like slightly laggy SP because I never interacted with the other people on the server, in another game it was shitty because some asshole rushed magnesium and made a gun to kill everyone while they were mining. That was all he did, he didn't even make a fucking ship. Anyway, in terms of bugs, it's actually pretty stable. Sometimes there are weird (and occasional near-gamebreaking) bugs, but it's not like Minecraft where every update comes with a whole new slew of broken things.
There really needs to be ship-based welders/grinders. I can't imagine how long deconstructing a large ship by hand would take.
There really needs to be ship-based welders/grinders. I can't imagine how long deconstructing a large ship by hand would take.
Far too long. Took apart a friends ship who stopped playing on my server, was a very large ship. Took far too long. [editline]27th March 2014[/editline] By far too long. I mean just disassembling the armor blocks and then placing the plates into Storage took a couple days on and off.

would look awesome to dock your ship into a bay you made, then have mechanical arms grind it apart for resources
Do I need to start a new scenario for the whole Cargo ship stuff, or will a pre-existing save work?
Do I need to start a new scenario for the whole Cargo ship stuff, or will a pre-existing save work?
It works on any save, but you need to go to its settings first and tick "Cargo ships"
Thanks for the clarification.
Can someone explain to me what the deal is with cargo ships? All I can see is that they are non-interactable ships that just fly by in a straight line.
Do they ever disappear/reappear or do they just get stuck in the corner of the map? If they get stuck or just sit there then it's kind of a resource waste/pointless addon in my opinion. I almost feel like they shouldn't have even wasted time doing this either way, unless it gets heavily expanded upon in the future (e.g. give them actual A.I.).
Can someone explain to me what the deal is with cargo ships? I just grab them with the landing legs on my other ship and try to stop them that way, then drag them to my base, since if they're booby trapped, turning on the inertial dampeners results in an explosion if you have thruster damage on [editline]27th March 2014[/editline]
Do they ever disappear/reappear or do they just get stuck in the corner of the map? I think they should probably just go the "assemblers" route with autonomous machine crafts that occasionally appear and want your stuff for now - then they can have ships with no pilots.
Aren't they gonna give those cargo ships guns? Looking forward to that point in which the game has a gamemode in which - you build a station or large ship or something. - armed Ships will spawn and move towards that station. - Ypu can take apart those ships and add parts to your own ship - More and more and larger and larger these ships come. Very simple to code. Should be rather fun.

tbh i'm actually finding the new ships pretty entertaining to hunt down, thinking about how to rendezvous with them, match their velocity, dock on, get them back in one piece etc. sort of reminds me of Kerbal Space Program crossed with Deadliest Catch in a weird way, seems like the sort of subject you would make reality TV off of
I like to imagine the back story to this game is that maybe decades in the past, before humans could physically reach this asteroid field, there was a great resource war fought by private corporations for the control and access to the abundance of resources using mostly automated drone craft. After a few years of Pyrrhic victory's for all sides the war finally ended with no clear victor, and with advancing technologies humans can finally be sent to establish outposts in this asteroid field and begin sending resources home. However because of this past drone war, the asteroid field has been turned into a mass grave yard of war, with derelict drone warships and minefields littered everywhere with few low powered drone craft still on their predetermined patrol routes, searching for enemies to destroy. To prepare for the second wave of civilian colonists to the asteroid field, groups of specially trained "Space Engineers" are sent before hand to clear and salvage debris, defuse landmines, disable active drones and of course mine precious resources to send them back to an ever growing desperate earth.
I like those ship designs, too, especially the Mining Hauler and Private Sail - that one kinda reminds me of a luxury yacht, with its sleek design and shiny solar panels, even though there's nothing inside of it, just a cockpit :v: I wonder who made them, the devs or the people from the closed testing group [editline]27th March 2014[/editline] And I'm super hyped about the upcoming MP optimizations, maybe it'll finally let me play with my US friend and actually enjoy it. I know, US<>Poland is probably like ~150ms, but that doesn't explain him teleporting 50 meters back and forth when flying a ship
I found a booby trapped "Military Minelayer", it had a warhead hidden in front of one of the forward thrusters and a bunch more in a cargo section it was dragging along - it blew up as soon as I activated inertial dampeners :v:
Sorry 'bout that.
Are ALL the ships boobytrapped?
Are ALL the ships boobytrapped?
The Private Sail and Transport aren't, and the huge mining ship has a warhead right under the reactor, it's pretty easy to get to. Othes are all booby trapped, but there might be more types that I haven't seen yet
I've had military Escort, Military Minelayer. Miner Hauler I think it was called and all were trapped. Trying to outfit a ship to clamp onto it at the moment. [editline]27th March 2014[/editline] And now a Military Transporter that also exploded. :suicide:

I went after a cargo freighter and as I was trying to catch it with my main ship's landing gear, I noticed that a "Private Sail" had appeared on the map, but by the time I was able to decelerate the docked ships, it had disappeared. Speaking of these ships, they're pretty fucking cool, I think. I had to maneuver myself alongside this cargo freighter so that my ship was going the same speed as it, and then I had to float over and navigate the thing until I found the pilot's chair to slow it down. Then it blew up. :v: [editline]27th March 2014[/editline]
tbh i'm actually finding the new ships pretty entertaining to hunt down, thinking about how to rendezvous with them, match their velocity, dock on, get them back in one piece etc. sort of reminds me of Kerbal Space Program crossed with Deadliest Catch in a weird way, seems like the sort of subject you would make reality TV off of
As much as I dislike reality TV, that would be a cool reality show in the future.
decided to make a ship specifically made to retrieve the cargo ships [vid]http://pred.me/dump/cargo.mp4[/vid]

Really wishing for large ship grinder blocks to feed captured ships into...
Squeegy will probably weaponize them by throwing ships into it with robot arms.
