Also, catching them with landing legs doesn't count as interaction, I was taking my time with getting a caught ship back to the base and it disappeared right from under the one I was piloting :v:
i figured as much this would happen, so i at least put a grav-gen on them.
It'd be really nice if keen could write some fluff for se. like, why they're out there, where they are, stuff like that. just to set the lore.
I havent tried the game yet, but currently, is there gameplay element or just building?
How do you go about de-trapping a spawned ship? I've searched most areas and I can't find any bomb of the sort except on the Military MineLayer.

there's creative mode for building and ramming into things, but survival mode came out recently where you have to mine for resources to construct bigger and better ships

the booby-trapped thrusters tend to be embedded in the ship to make them harder to find, so look for sealed-off interior compartments after you've checked the exterior thrusters

the game isn't fully fleshed out, but survival mode is functional. in that mode, your suit energy constantly ticks down, and you need to power your ship's cockpit to replenish it - which requires uranium, which you get by drilling from asteroids, or from scavenging derelict ships. you construct tools out of other minerals/materials you get from the asteroids or ships. you die when you run out of energy. there's not too many potentially lethal things in the game at the moment other than hitting things at high velocity or running out of energy, but there will eventually be environmental hazards to kill you.

Is it possible to attach to them and slow the craft down using your own ship?
Is it possible to attach to them and slow the craft down using your own ship?
Attach your ship to their ship with your inertial dampeners turned off (just in case), hop out of your ship, into the other ship and then turn all reactors and thrusters off (again doubly to be safe), hop out, and back into your craft and turn on Inertial dampeners in your craft, it will eventually slow it down (how fast depends on how well you've designed it and where you've parked relative to the direction its going etc etc) without triggering the explosion, just be sure to fnd and remove the warhead before you try starting that ship up.
I usually clamp onto the cargo ship with the ship I've made, activate the grav gen then go around drilling it apart and salvage it on the spot. if I find out it's booby trapped and I disarm it, or there's no place left to search for warhead, I'll take it and fly it somewhere else

Do their inertial dampeners automatically fire if an outside source stops them? I know that I once managed to intercept a business shipment and latch on without it blowing up or the dampeners going off, but I suspect that maybe the business shipment didn't have a trap.

You would have to get into the ship's console, power on the engines, and then thrust in the direction of the warhead (whatever that is, usually backwards, and usually caused by the inertial dampener).
If the hijacked ship's thrusters never fire, it is unlikely it will blow.
there's something fun about converting captured cargo ships into mobile bases. it's like stealing a lorry you found abandoned in a lot somewhere and turning it into a caravan.

I have half a mind to go capturing ships and repainting them and ripping off/sticking on random bits so they look like raider ships.
Man digging tunnels to make a base is a pain in the rear, coupled with the now fixed drills (they dont destroy ore as much) means i have to keep stopping my game and using setoolbox to keep deleting the floating rocks to keep my game playable.

Is that what it was doing? I always though if you turned the drill on near floating ore it just vacuumed it up like it does when drilling normally. If not, I think it should do that, collecting those tiny bits of ore manually is always a pain.
I've decided to start making a Space Station 13 kinda thing. Since, it has almost the same elements as SS13, it just needs some kind of RP mod that has a ton of recipes. Space Engineers has the whole building onto a station element, and total destruction element. Space Engineers could easily be a 3D Space Station 13.
Anyway, I have the main area with the command center sketched out. Also I'm basing it off TG Station if anyone's wondering.

Also I was kinda surprised nobody's started, or done this yet.

I use a sideways gravity generator to make the rocks go flying out of the exit. I can also cap off the exit and just use it as a funnel to collect all the rocks in one area for easy collection.

You have no idea how much I want this.
Also I was kinda surprised nobody's started, or done this yet.
because our modding options are so limited right now
You have no idea how much I want this.
Too bad I don't know how to make mods, otherwise I'd do it. Space Engineers is perfect.
I seriously need to get around to actually making a dedicated Salvage Tug with more horsepower than a small kitten.

I just ram them all in the hole of an asteroid I made like one giant junkyard for shits and giggles :v:
I have become a ship kleptomaniac
I steal all these ships I have no need for and just store them awkwardly floating near my station im building. I have had to force myself to let mining haulers pass me by... although I only seem to get military escorts and haulers
Someone should start cataloging all the various types we can see
Caught my first ship. I took a few attempts to actually land on it but I eventually made landing gear contact with it.

There was a Business Shipment that I tried to catch and I thought that putting a couple of rockets into it would slow it down or stop it but nope; I blew it in half and now the solar panels and the beacon are all that remain of it and have been floating off for the last few hours.
They need to add a block that is resistant to thruster damage that can be used as a landing pad or a hangar bay surface.

Erm, heavy armor? Although it's a bit buggy as it'll still get dented sometimes.
Is it a bug if I have ship spawns turned on and no ships spawn? I've seen four appear in my map and then none ever again after that. I'm a little bummed out now because I had just made an interceptor/hauler ship to catch them.
I had 2 spawn, within minutes of each other and then nothing for hours now.

Ive got two stategies for space piracy.
1. pull up alongside in my carrier/baseship, have a friend jump out of the landing bay, friend gets in the cockpit and counts the thrusters in the control panel while I fly around and count the thrusters visible and look for any place with the space to hide a trap. If the amount of thrusters I see matches what he counts, its good to go and we race back. If not,we do some bomb defusal on the go.
OR
2. latch on with pirate interceptor from behind, slowly and painfuly push it home, then repeat the process there. It much more boring. Option 1 has quite a few "Fuck yeah space murria" moments.

Updated, massive improvements such as actually having incoming for supplies.

Can someone report this bug, then? If it even really is a bug? I have no idea where else to do so.
anyone else noticed that the cargo ships have conveyors on the front of them that lead to nothing?
forshadowing that we may be able to transfer contents from one ship to another without using an astronaut as a middleman?
