anyone else noticed that the cargo ships have conveyors on the front of them that lead to nothing? forshadowing that we may be able to transfer contents from one ship to another without using an astronaut as a middleman?
the mining hauler has a whole network of conveyors in the walls and floors linking everything together, and then a bunch of them on the front too. Like it was meant to either have miners dock there and empty, or it was meant to dock and transfer everything to a station Super neat either way

I hope we get large mining drills too, and I hope they look like the comical cone-shaped ones <3

glass soon fellow spacemen
I hope there will be small ship glass parts too, cockpits are fragile as hell
Didn't they say there were some engine limitations to transparency and so it wasn't possible? Huh, I guess they changed the engine. :v:
Didn't they say there were some engine limitations to transparency and so it wasn't possible? Huh, I guess they changed the engine. :v:
Well it is their engine afterall. Sometimes things just dont seem possible and then you figure out how.
I hope that we get some more complex glass windows of different sizes; with colourable outsides. I want little airplane windows. Or large round circular windows. How Important do you guys think it is that we have practical looking ships though? Like... - You need to put ammo blocks by weapons. Making sure that there aren't fighters with more guns than room. - Large ships need to deal with the ventilation of both harmfull (wasteproduct produced by some reactors, smoke and fire, bioweapons, coolant needed for some items) and positive gas (life support) - AI Crew need sleeping space. you could probably put four futuristic bunkbeds in a single block's space. (I quite like human revolution's little wall homes) Maybe some hamocks further down the line. - Cargo blocks and items can be put on conveyor belts so that they reach the desired location with little fuss. (also some containers would have a little hole on them so that items can come in/out automaticaly)
For those of you who aren't having any ships spawn, give this a try. http://forums.keenswh.com/post/cargo-ships-etc-respawn-timer-6826884?pid=1282146087#post1282146087
Didn't they say there were some engine limitations to transparency and so it wasn't possible? Huh, I guess they changed the engine. :v:
Theres never engine limitations (when they can change whatever they like and are not lazy) and I believe it was cofirmed to be some "so legit" 10 year old that said its not possible and everyone apparently believes anyone. They have not changed away from Voxelrage, their engine.

Is there a quicker way of getting materials from a mining drill to a refinery other than transporting bit by bit by hand?
Is there a quicker way of getting materials from a mining drill to a refinery other than transporting bit by bit by hand?
Not until conveyor belts are working. If there's a small ship refinery (don't think there is, but I can't remember), you could trying attaching the drill storage door to one of the refinery input/output doors.
Nope, no small refinery. What i do is dump all the ore into the mobile refinery platform i built and is parked on the mining asteroid. I have inventory space at 10x so its not that hard. Then i just transport the ingots back to the outpost. I wish i could set player inventory to 10x but cargo containers to 1x or 3x. I like being able to carry a ton, but the fact that my base only needs two small containers to hold everything is a little depressing.
Can someone explain the mining to me a bit? I didn't measure the time or anything but the hand-drill seems much more efficient at mining than the small ship drills, provided you have a gravityfield and a place that the ore stops. Is the holding capacity of the drills supposed to be the only advantage? How do you reduce the wobble from the small ship drills? You just need to make the mining ship really heavy?

I use a pair of gyroscopes on my little mining ship, with 4 small thrusters pointing in each direction. It still shakes around, but it's manageable.
I want uniform textures for the light/heavy armor instead of this crazy squiggly line stuff. Riveted plates for light armor, welded for heavy would be cool. I was gonna do it myself but I have no idea how to generate normal maps for this stuff.

Though I myself realy want a hull set based around uncovered pipes and wires. I'd say that both textures should be flat and have no detail on them. However I would suggest that one armour type is reflective shiney whilst the other is non-reflectively shiney.

Should I just hand-drill stuff with gravity generators pulling the ore in one place or something like that?
So guys what's the advantage of small ship drills over the hand-drill?
I always thought the ship drills were a lot faster And they automatically collect most of the mined ore
I didn't run the numbers really but with the gravity thing I collect ore much much faster than a single small ship drill. Even when adding the time it takes to collect the ore and put it in the container (that's right next to the place where the ore lands). I tried adding more drills and tested it with a ship that had 9, it still wasn't as fast.

Ship drills carve out a much larger space and automatically store their haul, and the little rubble chunks leftover are optional to collect. As for wobble reduction, try having extra thrusters and place your drills so that their rotation counteracts each other.
So my Space Engineers chat is just randomly inserting 7's into everything I type.

Seems to me like the hand drill + gravity is more efficient than up to 9 small ship drills. Am I doing something wrong?

The size of my inventory is non-issue either, I simply turn away my face from the ore pile and put it all in a container once my inventory is full. It seemed to me like this way of doing it is much more efficient than using the small ship drills, I came here to check if I'm correct on this.
