jesus christ a regular star destroyer is like 1.6km long anyways but that thing holy fuck
jesus christ a regular star destroyer is like 1.6km long anyways but that thing holy fuck
I have a feeling you could substitute that for a small planet. Humanity wont need to colonize the stars. It's got everything it needs in there.

Out of curiousity, how does gravity work outside vs inside?

[editline]21st October 2013[/editline]
Yeah there is an assault rifle. Currently unusable. I hope they keep the combat meta from being the main focus of the game. As much as I want to be a space terrorist to other players I think the personal weapons~ should be re-purposed engineering and mining equipment.
repurposed mining tools as highly effective combat weapons with engineers being the best soldiers it worked in dead space. I don't want it to be a new cliche. I'm perfectly fine with guns. However, if it is actually mining tools, like drills added to a small pirate shuttle's hull to tear down walls, I'd be all for it.
The scale of things in this game are so damn out of proportion with each other because of how the current building system works. Currently you can only use one size of block depending on the size of the ship you start with (basically selection small ship, large ship, or station) and because the blocks for the large ships are the exact size of a person in the game, we're limited to where we can add details. Basically, properly sized hallways can't have any detail put into them at all. Just a bland, square hallways with maybe lights on the surfaces and that's it. The more details you want in a hallway or room, the larger you have to make it; and before you know it, the ship you've built looks like some shitty oversized fun house. Ideally something like this should be possible: But instead it has to be at a scale of 3 floors tall and 1-2 bus lengths wide: Whose lame idea was it that people couldn't mix the different sets of blocks with each other? I'm no programming guru but it seems like it would be a simple fix to have the smaller blocks snap at certain places with the larger ones. It probably isn't as easy to implement as I make it sound, but it's definitely possible to do. [editline]21st October 2013[/editline] /rant
Probably the way the block and collision data is saved depends on blocks occupying a known, regular space. Better off asking the devs, I doubt they declined to allow block mixing just to piss you off :v:
[t]http://i.imgur.com/usmyicw.jpg[/t] My ship is slowly floating away, slightly faster than I can jetpack towards it.
I hate when that shit happens. Save and exit to the main menu, reload, and it'll be stationary again. The game doesn't seem to save active velocity.
Is there an absolute up? Or is rotation (even for space stations) unconstrained?
I don't think it's a matter do not giving the player the choice to mix and match blocks, I legitimately think they just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm sure they will sooner or later, and if not, the modders will figure it out.
Out of curiousity, how does gravity work outside vs inside?
There's no differentiation between the two. It's only based on distance from the gravity generator. This can lead to weird gravity situations when you have two ships close enough to each other to interfere with each other's gravity.
I want to pick this up, but I'm waiting until the hype dies down. If Rust has taught us anything, the first several weeks of this game on any public multiplayer anything is going to consist of ships under construction getting booped. Thread title also reminds me to check out Blockade Runner; bought into it like a year ago, haven't tried it yet. :v:
I couldn't keep up with this thread but I'm going to buy it on launch. What's the current state of things?
I couldn't keep up with this thread but I'm going to buy it on launch. What's the current state of things?
make things. crash things.
I couldn't keep up with this thread but I'm going to buy it on launch. What's the current state of things?
It turns out the game is pretty good and the devs are good as well. People are building ships like there's no tomorrow and are producing better results in a day than I could in a week. Lots of people here are stating great plans but aren't acting on them, like me. People think that we should be able to put small blocks on big blocks. People here are talking about the size of something that I can't see because the image leads to a funnyjunk 404 page. The game comes out in two days for most people. There is currently no multiplayer, but it is being worked on. Servers can be public or private, so the problem that elixwhitetail described will not happen for a while. (Seriously, pick it up on launch.) People are already modding the game. People are already breaking the game. There will be no nuclear missiles. The game looks pretty but has repeating music. I think that's it so far.

I've seen large ships in some universes and blah blah but that one, to be honest, it's too fucking big.
Can't wait for them to add multiplayer and landing your ship inside a bigger ship support. It's like Rust but in space! Just kidding don't kill me.

I can't wait for multiplayer in the coming weeks. As long as it's done by December I'll be happy.
I, for one, don't want them making both block types compatible. For the sole reason of me being jelly of people with loads of free time for detailing corridors :v: . Better would be having more block models. Edit: OR, add a duplicator/stacker function. That would be the best.

I hope we get multiple tile sets for interiors and exteriors of ships so we can give them unique looks and feels. It'd be super cool rather than having bland hallways.
I'm hesitant to spend too much time making something good looking, especially interiors, because the more complex it is the more of an asspain it'll be to repair when someone accidentally collides with it or it gets shot up.
I don't get why people are so obsessed with making massive ships filled with huge rooms of empty space. The only reason you would make a big ship is because you need room for lots people to man lots of turrets and systems. When you're just one guy in a giant city of floating metal, you're nothing but a giant, laggy, easy to hit, really expensive target.
