that's awesome [editline]13th April 2014[/editline] something something wipeout
Needs more Piranha/Feisar.
Fuck me I accidentally broke the gravity generators on my maglev testbed so I was just going to quit and reload the last autosave then before I hit no to save before quit I thought "hmm I wonder if this world has auto-save enabled" so I decided I'd just rebuild the generators and then when I went to do that I accidentally clicked no anyway and auto-save was disabled.
My kleptomania continues
I made an attempt to make a real world location this morning:
That's pretty fucking rad, though you probably used glass to make railings, and it's 2.5 m high :v: [editline]12th April 2014[/editline]
something something wipeout
saaave

Got a functional train working, and it's pretty gangster. [t]http://i.imgur.com/vqEc2k5.png[/t] The fully enclosed cabin has its own gravity and can be walked around in while the vehicle is moving without interference from the rails. The gate there is the entrance to the station I'm going to build. What are you waiting for
What are you waiting for
http://www.mediafire.com/download/2q471ividfpxugh/service_maglev_test.rar Here you go, freeloader :v:
Jokes aside, I'm kinda sad that I didn't figure it out on my own Edit: how to stabilize mass blocks, that is
I've been levitating rocks and stuff in gravity fields for easy collection since forever. I figured out the mechanics a long time ago, but making it work like this was a bit of a task. Worth it though, it's pretty unique. I doubt it's as reliable as krail's design but it's much simpler and doesn't require separate ships for the rails. Soon, I'm going to see about adapting this setup to make landing pads on rails that you can land a large ship on (like the default blue ship) and then move it into a hangar. The scale is making me a bit nervous but it shouldn't be too complicated. By the way, the vertical gravity is controlled by two overlapping fields. One pulls down, the other pushes up. The one that pulls down reaches up higher than the other, but it's weaker, so things with mass float up until they exit the 'up' field and encounter the weaker 'down' field, causing them to settle. I realized it might be hard to figure that out from looking at the assembled system, so there you go.

I just had an idea for using gravity generators deflector fields or landing guidance/tractor beams, but then I realized that for defense it wouldn't really work because you'd need for the enemy ship to be equipped with artificial mass, and then they could just turn it off if they wanted to bypass it.
i have a 7970 and an i7 processor but with the new update everything lags and jerks it reminds me of the first time i ever smoked weed, everything is choppy as fuck
it reminds me of the first time i ever smoked weed, everything was choppy as fuck
Well, it's nice to know how your first experience with weed went.
This might be an overly optimistic project for survival, but gives me something to aim for. It was one of those miner carriages, but all that's left of the original is the landing gear, conveyors and large cargo containers.

we need gravity wells that do gravity in a sphere towards itself, stuff it in a asteroid for awesomeness.
It will certainly help with deflecting torpedoes.
Only if those torpedoes are grav-cannon projectiles. They wouldn't work against guided missiles (i.e. suicide rams), lance ships, or dumb projectiles carried by a moving object.
Only if those torpedoes are grav-cannon projectiles
Which most of them will be for the time being. Sure you're still going to have momentum based one but I imagine a lot of people would be inclined to use Grav-cannons for ease of use.

Momentum ones might be better in ways.
So I made a giant impractical gravity launcher thing It can launch craft slightly above the top speed limit.
So I made a giant impractical gravity launcher thing It can launch craft slightly above the top speed limit.
That could be a good gravity cannon it looks like.
More testing with rotors and mass. [vid]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/38690652/waffleiron.webm[/vid] Ignore the artifacts it really didn't like being recorded as a gif it seems.
Oh JESUS
That gives me an idea for a giant ship compactor.

Discovered a terrible bug with artificial mass blocks pertaining to maglev trains - the point at which they respond to gravity is actually shifted away by the gravity generators over time.
