I don't get why people are so obsessed with making massive ships filled with huge rooms of empty space. The only reason you would make a big ship is because you need room for lots people to man lots of turrets and systems. When you're just one guy in a giant city of floating metal, you're nothing but a giant, laggy, easy to hit, really expensive target.
There is this concept, it's called fun, Idk if you have heard about it but people like to have it sometimes.
I hope that when (and if) they add some kind of jumpdrive, that only the large spaceships will be allowed to have one. It would make sens to have carriers then (what my big ship is turning into I think).
There is this concept, it's called fun, Idk if you have heard about it but people like to have it sometimes.
I had fun once. It was awul.
Updated my previous ship a little bit: [img_thumb]http://rulssi.kapsi.fi/crap/images/spaceengineers/SpaceEngineers_2013-10-22-12-56-37-309_FinalScreen_00.png[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://rulssi.kapsi.fi/crap/images/spaceengineers/SpaceEngineers_2013-10-20-08-14-22-892_FinalScreen_00.png[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://rulssi.kapsi.fi/crap/images/spaceengineers/SpaceEngineers_2013-10-20-08-15-40-214_FinalScreen_00.png[/img_thumb] My small ship and messed up carrier I'm currently working on.. probably gonna abandon it and start new one: [img_thumb]http://rulssi.kapsi.fi/crap/images/spaceengineers/SpaceEngineers_2013-10-22-12-47-58-358_FinalScreen_00.png[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://rulssi.kapsi.fi/crap/images/spaceengineers/SpaceEngineers_2013-10-22-12-48-45-113_FinalScreen_00.png[/img_thumb]
So basically, they built a flying island? I've seen large ships in some universes and blah blah but that one, to be honest, it's too fucking big.
Well the image is surely fan-fiction, no? [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline]
You don't know big.
What even is this? That's just stupid, unless the beings occupying the ship were themselves the size of a solar system.
That's just stupid, unless the beings occupying the ship were themselves the size of a solar system.
I don't think Americans are technologically advanced enough for that kind of space travel.
I want them to enable the mining drills in the next update Weapons can wait, but I REALLY want to check out that terrain deformation
What even is this? That's just stupid, unless the beings occupying the ship were themselves the size of a solar system.
Welcome to Star Ruler, allow me to slap some thrusters onto your planet.
Worked on my ugly battleship a bit: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/BhDBAZa.jpg[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/Eigf2nq.jpg[/thumb] It still looks like a supertanker, but at least it a bit prettier now. Got rid of (some of) the massive flat surfaces.
I don't get why you keep calling it ugly man. That ship is nice.
Here's what I've been working on: http://imgur.com/tfoojJC,rGjYNg7,rOXElo5,3tZf3DX,VDb2M9n,KehG8gK,vidvSUV,yxvVZN7,byXQkIu,UwWgmxO,mEH7NZT,KizdotK,8bmXg66,gbWBx3A#0 Totally unfinished though. It's meant to be some form of space carrier. There's gonna be an offset engine nacelle on the right side, and main engines towards the rear. I'll probably build a cargo bay/shuttle dock into it too. It's the third ship I've built so far (The fighter being the second) and I've only just really got the hang of it all. I want to make the front section a bit more interesting, exterior wise, and the colour scheme for the entire thing will probably change.
So with all you guys posting all these star destroyer images and what not it kinda inspired me to rebuild my forward operation center... this is was the outcome  The main bridge is what I am working on now
Updated my previous ship a little bit: My small ship and messed up carrier I'm currently working on.. probably gonna abandon it and start new one:
I gotta get my shit together, people are pumping out cool ships faster than I can compete :v:
I don't get why people are so obsessed with making massive ships filled with huge rooms of empty space. Practicality does not always have to be the primary arbiter of design, especially in a sandbox mode. [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] Oh btw guys, the memory limit has been raised from 800mb to 1.5gb. No word on whether we'll be able to change it in the future, but I think it's a safe bet. Sigh; time to boot up Space Engineers, i'll see ya'll in 3 hours :v:
What even is this? That's just stupid, unless the beings occupying the ship were themselves the size of a solar system.
I don't understand the hard on for retardedly large ships, like the EU starwars stuff where it's like "a 200km long super star destroyer!!!!" the author can put any arbitrary number down for the size and it doesn't make it impressive, even worse when the ship looks like ass
Say that to the ships face.
I'll laugh when even simply turning would cause it to shear in half from the tidal inertia.
I don't get why you keep calling it ugly man. That ship is nice.
It's shaping up I guess, but before I spiced up those flat surfaces it really looked plain. I think the biggest error of me was to make it rectangular instead of slightly rounded like real world sea battleships (which was what I was going for). Oh well, added (fake) cannons and now it looks much better, didn't realize how much cannons would get rid of the flatness/dullness:

But I like spending time trying to figure out designs you can actually use in manual build without dying of boredom or impracticality. Imagine spending days and days mining and building some huge impractical monstrosity with several large thrusters and large reactors and other shit only for it to get destroyed when you're offline. I guess they, or the modders will devise some kind of protection system. Like certain stations projecting a safe zone where assets are immune to damage and bumping. Or logging off in the cockpit would also 'log off' off the ship with you after a certain amount of time. A-la Eve Online.
This game looks way prettier than starmade, but starmade has a ton more features, and MP, implemented... I mean I still bought it because I like to invest in these things early on, but the only things this has over starmade are the graphics and the damage system sorry if that was hard to read I just woke up recently
Well this is what i was working on from 10pm - 1am last night (plus a hour just now) So here it is, its not great as im not creative or good at designing but it was fun to make Here is the front, looking down inside the hanger [t]http://i.imgur.com/IMstsMH.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/wLqiOxk.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/czeDkY2.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/BOrKAPw.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/0D2Kf8S.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/tgjPX5R.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/H0kIHej.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/Sp4GRbM.jpg[/t] stairs leading down to the cargohold [t]http://i.imgur.com/uSjnGFC.jpg[/t] Walk to the bridge [t]http://i.imgur.com/xdmHCo6.jpg[/t] terrible bridge [t]http://i.imgur.com/QwTZhqk.jpg[/t] Reactor room [t]http://i.imgur.com/3jpDtqe.jpg[/t] Cargo Hold [t]http://i.imgur.com/n37Lrxr.jpg[/t] Gyro,Gravity room with ladder leading to reactors [t]http://i.imgur.com/oIyl7HA.jpg[/t] Medbay [t]http://i.imgur.com/mrpBuQ9.jpg[/t]
I don't know what to paint my ship now that I finished it :v:
I think I broke something :v:
I don't get why people are so obsessed with making massive ships filled with huge rooms of empty space. I prefer making smaller ships, but as a result I feel extremely limited since I can barely fit thrusters and power to power my ships.
Well great, Space Engineers somehow made my whole computer crash, good thing it was 5 seconds after it autosaved. [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] Aaaand the save is corrupted. Well, enough Space Engineers for today.
Decided to fill the big hole in the centre section with a hangar. Had to thin the hull by the bays slightly, but it was already about 3-4 blocks thick, anyway (slight miscalculation during construction. Fixed a misaligned thruster (was one block further forward than it's counterpart on the other side engine) and also stuck guns on every surface imaginable :v: Admittedly it looks rather silly with all those guns, and probably would be hella impractical to power when they do get enabled. Will have to see what their power/ammunition requirements will be like. In any case, this design will probably never make it to survival, and I still need to modify the side engines as they're too cylindrical. [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/SpaceEngineers_2013-10-22-18-15-11-407_FinalScreen_00.png[/t] A shame I didn't build my small cargo freighter on the same save.
My carrier is finally finished  [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43645231/photos/games/Space Engineer/2013-10-22_00009.jpg[/t] [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43645231/photos/games/Space Engineer/2013-10-22_00010.jpg[/t] Main hangars [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43645231/photos/games/Space Engineer/2013-10-22_00011.jpg[/t] I didn't realize it was so bright until now... I might remove some lights in the hangar :v: [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43645231/photos/games/Space Engineer/2013-10-22_00013.jpg[/t] Main staircase [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43645231/photos/games/Space Engineer/2013-10-22_00014.jpg[/t] And the bridge [t]https:/dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43645231/photos/games/Space Engineer/2013-10-22_00016.jpg[/t] And now a size comparison between my new carrier and my old boarding vessel [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/43645231/photos/games/Space Engineer/2013-10-22_00017.jpg[/t] It's time to get around and crashing these together.
So i finally finished the (basic) outside shape of my ship, did a little internal decorating too, decided to go move to to were the other 3 ships are in my save, then it hit me. [t]http://i.imgur.com/xfnPa5X.jpg[/t] The reason it took like 4-5 hours is because its fucking massive
