Meteorite showers and solar wind, duh
It'll only really do anything for those specific blocks, so at most it'll provide a kinetic absorbent buffer if that part of the ship collides with anything/is collided with. Ships don't have overall stats, so it's not as though adding a huge block of heavy armor inside your ship somewhere will make your hull slightly tankier or anything silly like that. :v:
Yeah, I know theres no such thing as stats or anything, but I guess "buffers" would be usefull on the large flat pieces. I'm trying to make something like this:
I integrate airlocks and double windows into all my designs because designing it like it's pressurized adds another element of challenge. A pressurized ship would experience rust on the interior if it was neglected for long periods of time. But again, to me it looks more like caked on dust.
we had this discussion when i posted my rusty ships and we concluded "because reasons". I take it from the minmatar's ideology on building ships (well before they started renewing their models): "Lets take the working stuff from the wrecks, and build a ship!" aka shit that's been lying on the surface, in a station, in space, and welded together somewhat and covered in duct tape, all done quickly so no time for fancy paint. bam, rust-ships. [editline]18th April 2014[/editline] the shadows are definitely not as good as I thought, at least from a gameplay perspective. they definitely look more spacier, but i can't see a fucking thing and spotlights are made of pure lagtonium. [editline]18th April 2014[/editline] Hold on, where did the rest of my post go?
Ok what the hell is going on, parts of my ships keep Disappearing for no reason
I've been noticing this problem since the last update. I would place down a few blocks to complete a section I was working on, then when I got back to it 5 minutes later they just aren't there. This problem has forced me to recheck every nook and cranny of my designs because random blocks will be missing.
I once had my ship lose it's generators mid flight and I proceeded to crash soon after, fucking bizarre :v: This game has some pretty funny glitches sometimes.
I've just been flying around and crashing my pre-update ships without saving.
if you have a partially completed conveyor block it will delete the ship upon reloading the game. Also as far as mods go I have been using these as they're pretty well made and satisfy my ship kleptomaniac needs (need moRE SHIPS)
Fuck, people's blocks are disappearing? That might explain the disappearance of a business shipment I had queued up to dismantle in my docks; I went after a military transport with my interceptor and when I returned the whole fucking thing had vanished.

You've got to sit in the pilot's seat at least once to disable the disappearance timer
That's a different issue, according to what i've heard, cargo ships disappear after they get far enough away from the player if they haven't been tampered with.
No, it was being disassembled. I'd carved chunks out of it, it shouldn't have despawned. The only thing I can think of is if I nudged it while I was disengaging the interceptor ship and it slowly floated off as I tracked down the other one.
How can something rust in space?
Stuff can still change it's chemical properties in space due to pretty much every single type of radiation present, but rust... Probably not, unless a cloud of water and oxygen flies by :v:
Stuff can still change it's chemical properties in space due to pretty much every single type of radiation present, but rust... Probably not, unless a cloud of water and oxygen flies by :v:
which could actually happen
Let's all pretend space fucked up and something else is causing rust. It's not as if our knowledge of space and it's elements is really that vast :v: There are a lot of unknowns.
which could actually happen
Actually I believe water and oxygen in deep space only exists in the solid form, i.e. comets? Still it might shatter and melt on a ships hull, so still a valid point. Although it's questionable how many comets are out there to collide with spaceships.
Let's all pretend space fucked up and something else is causing rust. It's not as if our knowledge of space and it's elements is really that vast :v: There are a lot of unknowns.
It's not rust, these are ancient extraterrestrial self-replicating nanomachines slowly processing the ship. Mystery solved. [editline]19th April 2014[/editline] Shit, the more I think about, the more I like the idea of self-replicating machines ala replicators from Stargate. The developers already stated there will be no aliens in the game because they are "too out there", but man-made replicators aren't exactly fiction anymore. Imagine finding an abandoned cargo ship crawling with these. If you start attacking them, they will start disassembling the ship and creating more of their own kind. The only way to stop them is to destroy every single one of them. If one of them gets on your own ship and back to your base, there wont be much you could do. Just grab as much stuff as you can, and get the hell out of there. That also gives me an idea for your own drones. Imagine a "Drone Hive" block that uses steel plates to create replicators. Using the console on the Hive, you could set simple goals for replicators from that spawn. For example, Drone Hive 1's goal is to take steel plates from the Cargo Container 1 in your base, and bring them to Cargo Container 2, next to the new ship you are building and Drone Hive 2. (I know this can be done with conveyors, but Cargo Container 2 is temporary and will be disassembled when you are done with the ship) DH2's goal would be to finish all unfinished blocks in the proximity of 50m from DH2 (which includes the ship you are building), using materials from Cargo Container 2. Replicators can move freely around all surfaces, but they can't fly or float, so the ship you are building has to be docked to the base if you want them to reach it without any problems. (Also drones/minions make for good mascots for your game devs, look how popular Kerbals are.)
I wouldn't like an unfightable thing like the replicators once they get on your ship, but rogue drone hives are fine with me.
Hi guys I've been away for two weeks, what've I missed
[t]http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/450667408572178901/326F4BC8819F81DD57F7941F7E8D3C29BD053640/[/t] So I launched one mining hauler in to another in an attempt to destroy them both and now one is still drifting in to open space. When I quit around 30 minutes after taking this screenshot it was just past the 200,000km away...
Hi guys I've been away for two weeks, what've I missed
Glass, Conveyors, Connectors, Artifical Mass blocks. Etc.
Glass, Conveyors, Connectors, Artifical Mass blocks. Etc.
Jesus, that's a lot of stuff. Gotta try them out as soon as I get the update downloaded. I'm assuming artifical mass blocks == gravcannon ammunition. What're connectors, though, and can I use the pipes or whatever to connect small ships to large ones?

What're connectors, though, and can I use the pipes or whatever to connect small ships to large ones?
People have been weaponizing them in quite a few ways. Connectors and such are for transferring ores and components and such via Conveyors etc etc. So as an example. In a map me and my friends run. We have a drop off chute that sucks up everything and our main mining ships have a little chute that ejects all the ores and stuff we grab and the station sucks them up and distributes them between refinery's and automatically puts the refined uranium right into the reactors and things like that.
Bit hard to weaponise the connectors though since they output ridiculously small chunks of stuff, and by the time you get the gravity up to give them enough speed to do something, they just phase through.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/7wpRegf.png[/t] I have reached my endgame. Ship at the far end is pretty much a reactor and engines so it moves this whole daisy chain of steel... Everything I ever need. All captured/made in survival with only 10x inventory (because lets be honest 20 trips for a large thruster sucks). Now to wait for bigger environments, better multiplayer, and new sectors.
You can't, at least not yet, but you can use them to throw stuff out one ship and catch it in the scoop of another.
What he means by this is that right now, there are two parts that have to be used to 'connect' two ship inventories. There is a connector block, and a collector block. The former as it is can only eject parts from the inventory and into open space, but eventually will be a docking point of sorts. The latter is basically just a space hopper that absorbs anything that contacts it's operating end and deposits them into the inventory.
